Stavros - Akrotiri: is a popular summer destination among the locals, because of its natural beauty. Stavros is 15km far from Chania and you can easily get there by car. Akrotiri has few coastal resorts but some nice beaches which are popular at weekends with the inhabitants of Chania but fairly quiet during the week: Marathi, Kalathas and Stavros.Stavros beach has a beautifull sandy circular cove, where "Zorba the Greek" was filmed, a movie candidate for Oscar award, starring Anthony Quinn and Alan Bates. It is a great spot for a relaxed stay next to the shallow water, which is great for children too. It is also pleasantly catered with umbrellas and sun beds. Located aproximately 2km far from Quinten and 3km far from Villa Penelope and Villa Clio.Historical information: Akrotiri also has a few monasteries which are becoming popular with visitors: the impressive Agia Triada was founded in the beginning of the 17th century and was a prominent religious school until about 40 years ago. About 4 km to the north of Agia Triada, there is Moni Gouverneto (Our Lady of the Angels) and it dates from the 16th century. The building itself is quite plain but the church inside has a nice sculpted Venetian fac ade. What can be more appealing than a property set in an open landscape on the edge of the sea, with magnificent panoramic views and perfect tranquillity. Quinten consists of four adjoining single units and one separate unit of accommodation. The views of the sea and the sky are as far as the eye can see and at night, the starry lights of Kolymbari are clearly visible across the water. There is a large car parking area, a well tended lawn at the front and a magnificent good size swimming pool (with sea water) above the rocks on the waters edge. Built in traditional style the accommodation is light and airy but during those hot balmy nights, air conditioning will provide extra comfort. As you open the balcony door, stand back and take in the glorious views across the garden, the swimming pool and out to sea. Each unit has a spacious and private balcony and with the doors open, the view is fantastic even from the inside of every front room. There are 2 two bedroom apartments of 55sq.m. They consist of one twin and one double bedroom. On the sitting/dining area there are a sofa, a satellite TV and a table with chairs. At the one side of the room there is the open plan kitchen, equipped with a 3 ring stove, oven, grill, fridge/freezer, coffee maker, toaster, squeezer and kitchenette. The bathroom is equipped with shower room with hydro massage. All bedrooms have air-conditioners. Linen and towels are provided. Both apartments have balconies with panoramic sea view and garden furniture. From the balconies stairs lead to the garden and the pool.

The Magnesia Region

Crete is an island with an exquisite 1,000 kilometer-long coastline dotted with numerous coves, bays and peninsulas, which afford a

multitude of soft, sandy beaches along the beautifully blue Mediterranean Sea. After all, it's among the finest in the world and has established Crete as one of

Europe's most popular holiday destinations. And, of course, the island's historic importance in today's world as the home of the Minoan civilization

with important archeological finds at Knossos, Phaistos and Gortys, is evidenced by the tens of thousands of visitors to these sites each

year.

Chania

Chania, one of the most beautiful towns on the island, is the capital of the western most Chanion district and hosts one of the international

airports of the island. In fact, this historic town of 53,000 inhabitants used to be the capital of Crete in living memory, but has now relinquished the part to

Heraklion.

The ancient town of Kydonia had been inhabited since Neolithic times and saw prosperity and decline in succession several times in its long

history. It flourished mostly under Venetian rule, when it acquired its modern name Chania and was often referred to as 'Venice of the East', a glory now

reflected in the inner harbour, Venetian lighthouse, arsenals and castle. While in town, enjoy walking through the historic quarters and along the waterfront, and

take a look at the domed Mosque of the Jannissaries. Visit the Archaeological Museum to see a great number of artefacts from sites all over the island, and the

Naval Museum if you are interested in model ships and the role of Cretan fighters and the Allies in World War II. The Chanion region combines exquisite natural

beauty with historical sites. It is famously rugged and mountainous in the south and centre, as most of it is taken up by the massive Lefka Ori (White Mounts), but

still allows the visitor to travel to spectacular sandy beaches in the South West (Elafonissos), West (Falasarna) and all along the northern coast. This

walkers' paradise includes at least two walkable gorges slashing through the mountains (Imbros and Samaria), and possibly affords you the only chance to cross

stone arched bridges over dry land (the only safe time to cross gorges which double as winter torrent beds is when they are dry!)
