BookThe Crete region
Crete is the largest island in Greece. The island offers amazing variety, combining snow-capped mountains, rolling hills covered with olive trees and over 1000 km of varied coastline. Crete has far more endemic plants than any other island in Europe.
Chania has a great history and cultural heritage, partly because it faced many conquerors through time, thus being open to the influences of different civilizations. Chania has many monuments of Byzantine period, Venetian period, Ottoman period and modern History as well as worth-seeing museums, like the Nautical Museum of Crete, the Archaeological Museum of Chania, the house of El. Venizelos, the War Museum of Chania.
The climate of the area is temperate Mediterranean and the temperatures vary at normal levels all year round.
The Chania / Kolymbari area
Kolymbari, a quiet village nestling between the Mediterranean sea and majestic green cliffs, 23 km west of Chania, is still relatively unaffected by tourism. Kolymbari is known for its nice sandy beach, a small fishing port, cozy tavernas and cafés as well as several restaurants and a few shops.
The Olive Villas complex is situated at the village of Kria Vrissi, 30km south-west of the city of Chania and 10km from the beach of Kolymbari. Its traditional stone architecture blends seamlessly with the surrounding fields of vines, olive and orange trees and the marvellous view of the area mountains. It is the ideal place for rest during you vacation in Crete.

The house was fully renovated in 2011. Due to its position, it’s ideal for hiking excursions in the surrounding countryside, observing the local village life, or just relaxing while enjoying the sweeping panoramic views. The owners’ links with various cultural organisations in the region make it the perfect starting point for anyone interested in the history of the region, the history of olive cultivation or discovering traditional oil production methods.

We stayed at Olive Villas in Krya Vrysi for two weeks in March. We had a really great time. Krya Vrysi is a small village in the west of Crete away from the usual tourist track and was really peaceful and tranquil among the olive trees and the local village life. There are many hiking trails and even though we went hiking almost every day we didn't manage to explore all of them. The three different sized apartments are tastefully and thoughtfully renovated and the owners were meticulous about making sure they were tidy and clean. The balconies, terraces and gardens were perfect for sunbathing during the day and also in the evening for relaxing with a glass of wine and admiring the views and the sunset. When we arrived we were met at the house by the owners who welcomed us with some delicious homemade local speciality called raki, and also with some of their own locally grown and produced extra-virgin olive oil. When we left they also surprised us with a gift of their own olive oil. Given our previous experiences, we were amazed by what fantastic value the whole stay proved to be. We never expected so much at such a price! Be prepared though that very little English is spoken in the small grocery shops in the area, more so in the busier areas, but everyone we met was incredibly helpful! Would definitely recommend this place. |

Highly recommend this beautiful peaceful house surrounded by olive groves, vines and orange trees. The nearest beach in Kolymbari is only 15 mins drive from the house - it's pebbly and safe for young children. A bit further away about 30km is Falasarna Beach, a sandy beach with beautiful clean water. If you want to cook for yourself there is mini market 5 mins drive away in Deliana. |

Olive Villas is the perfect place for a relaxing holiday off the beatentrack. My husband and I (and our two young children) stayed with friends in villa Zerbera for one week duringSeptember. It is the perfect place to vacation with young children and frineds. The main positives are the amazing views in combination with comfortable interiors. Everything is really clean and new. It is very privateand quiet as there are no neighbours nearby and the location is unspoilt by tourism at the moment. At the same time, you are close enough to a town to be able to go for a meal, coffeee or drink. There is plenty of space and rooms just to feelcomfortable with friends. The outside spaces are big and safe for kids playing and the verandas are ideal for just drinking your beer or coffeeoutside at the sunset. I would recommend it for a family or bunch of riends to spend a relaxing holiday. But you definitely need to hire a car. |
