The Crete region

Crete is the largest and most populous of the Greek islands and the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. It forms a significant part of the economy and cultural heritage of Greece while retaining its own local cultural traits (such as its own dialect, poetry, and music).

Crete was the centre of the Minoan civilization (c. 2700–1420 BC), the earliest "high culture" civilization in Europe, which built the first palaces in Europe.

Chania

Chania is the second largest city of Crete. It lies along the north coast of the island, about 70 km (43 mi) west of Rethymno and 145 km (90 mi) west of Heraklion.

Platanias is a village and municipality on the Greek island of Crete. It is located about 10 km (6.2 mi) west from the city of Chania and east of Kastelli-Kissamos, on Chania Bay. Platanias is a popular tourism village with a beach, several hotels, restaurants and souvenir shops.

"Lovely insight into the greek way of life"

Holidays dont come much better than this if you need a relaxing break away from the normal hustle of holiday resorts. Villa is about a mile South of Maleme in the beautiful village of Xamadouchori. Ruth and George made us feel welcome from the very start from arranging car hire from Chania airport till the day we left. Villa was perfect for the five of us,Food and wine never stopped flowing and were treated to a night out in the village where we were made very welcome by the villagers. Only ten mins from the more lively Platanias and twenty mines from the beautiful city of Chania. Water park 30 mins away and recommended beaches are fallasarna and elophonisi. Car recommended.
