Villa | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6
Villa Anastasia occupies one floor with terraces leading to studio apartment, BBQ & pool, where mountain breezes keep the temperatures down.
With little more than a handful of houses, the village of Veni gently rests among the green olive groves that sweep down the hills. Veni is the perfect escape you’re looking for. Refreshingly green, you can truly get away from it all in this perfect rural pocket of Crete. Despite this private and green location, Villa Anastasia is only 5 minutes by car to the tavernas, shops and long, quiet beach at Kolymbari.
Villa Anastasia is a charming country villa with stunning views set in its own private gardens which provide privacy. Villa Anastasia is popular and has repeat guests year after year, and it is easy to see why when you visit this haven of relaxation. The villa was successfully marketed through Thomson for over a decade and effortlessly met their high standards.
The terraced garden with the 34m2 private swimming pool just below, is perfect for children to play in, whilst the mature olive tree near the pool edge provides shade. The studio apartment is adjacent to the BBQ terrace and pool.
Villa Anastasia is also a perfect location for birdwatchers, where a wide variety of birds and wild flowers can be found. There are plentiful walks through the shady olive groves up the hillside behind the villa. With easy access to the National Highway as well as roads to the west and south coasts, this is a great area from which to explore Crete’s many and varied sites.
At Kolymbari you can enjoy the beach or shopping for souvenirs in the narrow streets or duck into an atmospheric taverna. And you're not all that far away from the beach, either. A 10 to 15 minute drive will take you to the shores of Ravdoucha or Nopigia Beaches. Pack a picnic and enjoy a leisurely afternoon there, or refuel at one of the tavernas. Back in Veni, after the activity of towns and beaches, the serene calm will be a welcome relief. So sit back, relax and enjoy the wonderful serenity.
It is very rare that you find such an attractive villa with such great views that combines both the best of the traditional and modern worlds.

The Crete region
Crete has everything you that could possibly want from a holiday: soaring mountains that are snow capped from November to May, many great walking trails including Europe's longest gorge, ancient archaeological sites and Minoan palaces, quaint villages, golden beaches, sparkling clear blue seas with tavernas serving freshly caught fish, glorious wild flowers in the Spring.
As incredible as the island is, it is the Cretan people who will make your holiday truly memorable. Descendants of the Minoan's, one of Europe's earliest civilizations, and shaped by centuries of struggle against oppression, the Cretans are as rugged as the mountains, fiercely independent but passionately friendly.
The climate of Crete is a temperate Mediterranean climate and the weather is characterised by long hot, dry summers and mild winters. The spring can be warm and sunny during the day but still have cooler evenings and is perfect for walking, bird watching and looking at the wild flowers.
The Kolymbari area
Kolymbari is a traditional farming centre which has a growing tourist industry in the summer months, and is the junction for roads that lead south, west and east. The long bamboo and conifer lined shingle beach with tavernas, sun beds and umbrellas, never gets very busy and it is even easy to find a quiet spot during the summer. Nearby is the beautiful Gonia Monastery from here you can access the Rodopou Peninsula which has lovely views and small coves. Hike along the Samaria Gorge National Park, supposedly Europe’s longest gorge.
To the south and west of Kolymbari one can find the lovely town of Paleohora, which has 2 huge beaches, and a promenade which is closed to traffic at night, the 3km long sandy beach at Falassarna, the breath-taking Elafonissi beach which has pink sand and turquoise water.
Kissamos-Kastelli has the largest fishing boat harbour on western Crete, from where you can take daily cruises to the stunning Gramvousa Island and Balos Lagoon. 7km behind Kissamos is the ancient archaeological site of Polyrrinia which has fabulous views and ancient remains from Minoan, Roman and Venetian times.
For those seeking a little more action, just a few minutes to east of Kolymbari are the larger villages of Tavronitis, Maleme and Platanias which have long sandy beaches, water sports, numerous tavernas, cafes, shops, night clubs, and archaeological sites. In addition to all of this, we must not forget the gorgeous Venetian town of Chania.
Villa Anastasia is located on the west coast 30 minutes from the beautiful town of Chania. With its stunning Venetian harbour, quayside bars and restaurants, what better place to relax and watch the world go by. In the narrow streets behind Chania's harbour you will find tavernas, bars, the famous covered market, and many local shops selling handicrafts, textiles, jewellery and hand-made ceramics.
Further afield there are several places that must be visited and most can be done in a day trip. See Rethymnon’s harbour and lighthouse at sunset, marvel at the reconstruction of the ancient Minoan palace of Knossos and be moved by the stories of former leper colony Spinalonga.
