The Crete region
The Venician lighthouse is situated in the old harbour at Chania 37 km away from Aloni Villa. From the original Venician lighthouse which dominated the entrance of the harbour, only the base survives today, built with the same sandstone as the Walls. The present light-house, rebuilt during the Egyptian occupation (1821-1841), is different from the original and is rather reminiscent of a minaret, as regards its shape and the inside stone staircase leading to the balcony and the glass tower.
A very distinctive area of the Old Town is the harbour itself and generally the seafront ("akti"). Akti Tompazi, Akti Kountouriotou and Akti Enoseos (marina) all feature several historical buildings and a thriving nightlife.
The gorge of Samaria is situated in the National park of Samaria, in the White Mountains in West Crete about 70 km away from Aloni Villa.Samaria is said to be the longest gorge in Europe. It is16 km long, starting at an altitude of 1250m and taking you all the way down to the shores of the Libyan sea in Agia Roumeli. The Samaria National Park always opens to the public at the beginning of May.
One of the most beautiful beaches in Crete is situated in the town Georgioupolis 6 km away from Villa Aloni.
The lake of Kournas in Crete is 9km away from the Villa Aloni.Covers a total area of about 160000 square metres with a depth of up to 25 metres. There are several tavernas where you can taste traditional cretan food and you can also rent a seabicycle.
The Chania / Maza/Apokoronas area
Villa Aloni is situated in Maza, a small village in the Kruonerida municipality, in the region of Apokoronas in the county of Chania, in Western Crete.
Maza is a small village in the foothills of the mountains, with about 100 permanent inhabitants. The village is about 37 km from the town of Chania, 35km from Rethymno and about 40 km from Chania airport ''Daskalogiannis'' .The nearest port ''Souda'' is 30 km away. The nearest health center is in the village Vamos 10 km away and the lake ''Kournas'' is 9 km away.
Maza is also very close to the traditional village Vrisses, famous for the fresh yogurt. The nearest beach is at Georgioupoli , about 6km away. Maza is situated in a area of great natural beauty, where you can enjoy walks . There are also several old churches, like St. Nicolas, in the village square. Visit the traditional cafe and enjoy the tasty mediterranean cuisine at the tavern of the village.
Villa Aloni is the perfect place to relax and enjoy nature.

It is simply a little piece of paradise. Everything about the place is just gorgeous, but much more than that, you feel at home as soon as you walk in the door. As you can see by the pics, the garden is amazing and very private, the pool is a good size, there's an outdoor BBQ, the view is sensational, the house inside is lovely and tastefully laid out and decorated, it's very clean, there's a bath, there's free wifi, there's a four poster bed in the master bedroom and the list goes on. The village itself is tiny and real traditional Greek and the people are very welcoming and lovely. We ate in the little restaurant in the square almost everyday, you pass it on the right as you first enter Maza. Kostas and his family own and run it and the food is delicious and the atmosphere is fantastic. Again, traditional Greek with quality ingredients and a really reasonable price. We ate in loads of places in Crete but Kostas was the best by far. We stayed in Villa Aloni for our honeymoon, just back yesterday and we are already planning to come back next year. I think we'll be coming back here for years to come and hopefully with kids down the road as well. Just can't say enough good things. Amazing! One tip, you definitely need a car. We always planned to rent one so wasn't an issue for us but just in case you weren't planning to, you really do need one. |

We loved the house. Living area and kitchen well equipped and comfortable - bedrooms good size and attractive. Large lawned garden and very nice pool with beautiful view over valley. 2 wonderful tavernas in easy walking distance, real Crete definitely. Nearest town Vrisses with tavernas on the river was lovely. Response: Thanks for your very good review.Visit again the beauty of Crete and villa Aloni to enjoy the sun on beautiful blue beaches and Cretan hospitality. Thank you !! Stefanos |
