It enjoys olive groves and mountain views to the rear, 2 shared pools, and is within an easy 6 minute walk to all the shops and beach restaurants of Almirida, with their stunning views across Souda Bay. The villa has several balconies on which to relax and enjoy the views, and of course lounge, kitchen and dining accommodation and private car parking. Numerous local villages provide alternative places of interest & lively Chania with its Saturday market is a 35 minute drive away.

A spacious open plan kitchen, lounge and dining area are on the ground floor, together with a twin bedroom and shower room. Upstairs are a further twin bedroom, the double master bedroom & a second shower room.
The two 3 seater leather settees may be used as two further beds (linen provided), if required taking the villa capacity to 8. Each bedroom is individually air conditioned, as is the whole of the downstairs living space. Satellite TV provides a range of English language TV (children's programmes, films + Sky & BBC News 24), & major UK radio stations.
High chairs & cots can be hired from the maid service.

Balconies & Patios provide outdoor living space & Alfresco dining table and chairs and loungers are provided.
2 shared pools & a fully landscaped garden serve the small community of 15 privately owned villas. Almyrida has 4 mini-markets, a bakery for your daily fresh bread & cakes, & a small taxi rank if you want to adventure further away. We do recommend car hire to get the most out of your stay and to enjoy the surrounding villages, beaches & of course Chania.

Bookings will be accepted by phone or email and confirmed by receipt of 25% deposit. Balance plus £100 bond due 6 weeks before your departure date. Your bond is fully refundable upon your return home if there have been no breakages. Directions and a local map will be posted to you.
We provide a weekly English speaking maid service. The pools are available all the year round.
The location is completely suitable for children with no hills to climb and well made access for buggies.

The Crete region
Western Crete offers a diverse range of interesting places to visit including the spectacular Samaria Gorge.
There are numerous beaches, places or archtectural interest, & innumerable restaurants serving local delicacies to international cuisine.
The Cretans are particularly friendly & welcoming to their British guests.
The Chania / Almyrida area
Chania which is not to be missed for its beautiful back street restaurants, shops, stunning architecture and lively harbour. Once you've been you will have to go back! Kalives (2.8 Km) is great for a local breakfast and has a superb beach & Plaka (1.6Km), provides a tranquil insight into unspoilt Cretian village life.
The villa is just a short walk to the beach which is flat and sandy and slopes very gently into the clear turquoise water, making it ideal and safe for children. Along the beach are a number of restaurants offering diners a wide range of local inexpensive dishes (€6 -7, including wine), as well as a diverse range of international cuisine, whilst enjoying breathtaking views across the beach and bay. The sunsets in this part of Crete are spectacular as the sun falls across Souda Bay.
There are no night clubs in Almirida & the location suits those seeking a more leisurely relaxing & quite holiday.

Chania airport, with UK flights in and out on Tuesdays, is a 35 minute drive away. You can collect a hire car outside the arrival's hall or take a fixed price taxi (€40). Use www.flightline.co.uk & www.economycarhire.co.uk to help with this. Car hire is not essential, but can also be arranged locally in Almyrida.
You can also take the ferry from Athens (Piraeus) to Souda, and then a 20 minute car drive to Almirida.
A hire car is not essential as a fixed price taxi one way costs 40 euros, and is available directly outside the arrivals hall. From Almyrida local buses provide a regular service to Kalives further up the coast, and to Chania. Heraklion airport now has flights 7 day a week from Gatwick & 4 days per week from Manchester, and is a 2 hour direct journey on the National Highway. Therefore we have no specific change-over day.

We have not long returned from Crete & cannot speak too highly of the villa. We are a family of seven with children ranging from 7 - 13. The villa is modern, clean, well equipped and spacious. The shutters kept it cool and dark & we slept better & later than we do at home. The blue flag beach is a short walk away and beautiful. It was never crowded & very safe for the children to swim. The local bakery is excellent (2mins walk) and small supermarkets very well stocked. The owners representative was most attentive & helped with recommending other local beaches for variation. We had a day at the limnoupolis water park which the kids loved. Also visited the very beautiful lake at Kournas near Gianopoulos where you can hire kayaks & Pedalos & swim in the cool clear water. I would have no hesitation in recommending the villa as a perfect base for a family holiday in Crete. We could easily have stayed another month. |

The location, Almyrida, is superb for families with small children - everything is in easy walking distance, the beach is gentle and sandy, the tavernas excellent and child-friendly. For those needing a taste of the big city, Chania is not far by car or bus, and we had an enjoyable day out there. We hired a car and visited some of the more far-off beaches like Falarsana and Elafonnissi, which we can recommend - they were beautiful! "A spacious, clean and peaceful villa. A very pretty location and only about 6 minutes level walk into the small town and the beach where there is a good selection of tavernas and bars.We tried most of the tavernas! They all serve similar food at a similar price. A good selection of meat and veggie dishes. We had trouble getting cash from the ATM in the town and as there was a bank strike while we were there, we tried to pay on debit cards at two of the tavernas, at the end of the meal. They didnt take cards and said we could come back the next day to pay!! The beach is clean with lovely, clear shallow water. Plenty of fishes around the rocks for any snorkellers.Sunbeds for hire for 3 euros a day. There is plenty of space in the bedrooms at the villa and the beds are comfy with nice linen. The lounge is a lovely space with large comfortable settees and a nice tele with a good choice of channels, which kept our teenagers amused. The air conditioning is very efficient and easy to use. Great details from the owner about everything, in plenty of time. Hania is a beautiful town to visit and the harbour is well worth an evening stroll. "We spent a great week at the Villa Gig 2. The house is very beautiful and has everything you may need: rooms are clean, spacious and bright; air conditioning is in every room and works very well, the pool is safe and is well lit at night. Also Almiryda is a really nice village with shops and restaurants and a nice beach if you do not want to move to other beaches. However, should go to the beaches of Elafonisi, Balos and Falasarna, three authentic wonders of nature. The evening is good for a ride to Chania and Rethymno, very nice towns with many craft shops, restaurants and a beautiful turkish-venetian harbors with a nice landscape.
The owner was very kindly provided many useful tips and information: of these I suggest you spend a couple of hours to visit the factory of hand-blown glass in the nearby village of Kokkino Chorio, where you can buy some excellent articles and, during the morning, see the artisans working.
