The Swiss Alps / Valais/Swiss Alps region
Champex-Lac is a hidden gem of a place nestled in the Swiss Alps in the canton of Valais. Valais is a canton of extremes and contrast from the snowy mountain peaks to the dry summer heat of flat bottomed Rhone Valley.
Of course this is a region of out door activities but aside from skiing and walking there are so many other reasons to visit. For those with a young family a trip to the Saint Bernards Dog Museum in Martigny is a must. Martigny is also a cultural centre with several museums, an art gallery, sculpture park and Roman Ampitheatre.
For wine drinkers Valais is a pure delight as Vineyards flank the sides of the Rhone Valley and the local wines of Fendant and Dole are a real treat. There is even a Michelin Star restaurant in Orsiere which is well worth a visit (those in the know visit the inexpensive family friendly brasserie next door).
Champex Lac area
Skiing can be found on the doorstep within the village whilst nearby Verbier and the Four Valleys offer extensive pistes.
In the summer there is boating on the lake. The village communal tennis court and swimming pool are also within walking distance (subject to local opening hours).
Valais is also a region of natural mineral Spas perfect for a days relaxation and pampering.
The village has several restaurants, a couple of bakeries and few local shops. For your food shopping there is a small supermarket in Orsiere opposite the station and a large Migros in Martigny.
How to get there
Geneva is a hub for many airlines including BA, Easy Jet, Swiss Air (to name a few) all have several flights a day.
Getting to Champex it is possible to use public transport but a car is recommended.
From Geneva airport the drive is straight forward and takes about 1 hour 45 mins. There are several well known car rental companies at Geneva airport and booking in advance is of course advisable.
The train from Geneva airport can be taken directly to Martigny from where it is possible to take a taxi to Champex. Public transport is fine for those planning to stay in the village, walk or hike locally and relax.
For those travelling from the UK a drive down through France from Calais could always be incorporated into your holiday and can be a real pleasure, stopping on route.
Aosta (I) 68 km, Chamonix (F) 56 km.

In Summer magnificent hikes in the surrounding mountains. Champex is situated on the Tour du Mont-Blanc a challenging circular trail passing through the countries: France, Italy and Switzerland and setting for the Ultra Trail endurance race.
For those Summer visitors wishing to relax the village there is a communal swimming pool and tennis court. Boats are also available to hire on the lake. The region is also know for its natural spas , Lavey les Bains is well situated between Montreaux and Martigny.
