The Rhone / French Alps / Haute-Savoie region
Chamonix (1035m) is not just any old ski resort, this old french village was transformed over a 100 years ago when it hosted the first ever Winter Olympics, since then it has become the European mecca for adventure sports and luxury holidays in both Winter and Summer. In winter Chamonix, boasts some of highest runs in Europe (Grand Montet 3300m and Vallee Blanche 3800m) which ensures that there is good skiing available well into May, tho check the ski reports as the weather can vary from season to season. When it's time for lunch or a warm down from the day's adventure, Chamonix can also offer great food and apres ski locations both on and off the mountains. Chamonix is located only minutes to a number of nearby ski villages and runs including Les Houches (7.5km), Vallorcine (16.5km) and Argentiere as well as the Italian Resort, Courmayeur (23km). In summer the centre of town is transformed as walkers, hikers and climbers decend upon Chamonix to enjoy the natural challenges.

In fact, Chamonix town has more visitors in summer than it does in winter! Getting up into the mountains is easy with most of the lifts operating throughout the summer season. There are a number of mountain guiding and adventure companies to assist in planning anything from a 30 sec free fall to a longer adventure in the mountains and for the golfers, there is an 18 hole golf course 5 minutes drive from the centre of town and was designed by the world famous Robert Trent Jones Senior.
