The Rhone / French Alps / Haute-Savoie region
Chamonix is probably best known as the ski-ing and alpine capital of the world. This cosmopolitan town has an amazing amount to offer you. You dictate the pace. Full on adrenaline junkies can be as satisfied as the chill- outs here! Our apartment is just a few minutes walk south of the beautiful town centre, with it’s restaurants, patisseries, ski/cycle hire and sports shops. Also close to facilities of Chamonix Sud.
Chamonix sits at the foot of Mont Blanc in the heart of the French Alps, displaying glaciers and breath taking views of the snow-capped mountains all around. The Brevent range to one side of the valley and Mont Blanc to the other. The valley is about 20 km long, running between Aiguilles Rouges mountains and the Mont Blanc range. There are fabulous walking trails all over the valley. We have some books on guided walks for you to borrow during your stay.

SKI-ING / SNOWBOARDING
The Chamonix valley caters for all levels of skier and snowboarder. Beginners can try the local pistes, Les Planards, Les Chosalets or the Savoy and also Les Houches and Le Tour. Le Brevent and La Flegere provide intermediate ski-ing with a diversity of pistes. For advanced skiers the possibilities are endless: including the Vallee Blanche (white valley), one of the highest, longest and best known ski trails in the world, at 22km. The views of Mont Blanc are breathtaking at any time of the year.
There’s always plenty for the children to do. A train trip to visit the sea of Ice Glacier and an ice grotto at the top of the highest cable car in Europe (Aguille de Midi). Chamonix has a cinema and an alpine museum. For the older children, how about some Summer blueberry (myrtille) picking in the mountains?
Activities in and around Chamonix • hiking/ walking • rock climbing, • cycling, • ice-skating, • tennis, • white- water rafting, • horse riding, • paragliding • swimming • fishing • casino • nightclub • great local sports facilities in the summer and winter. • a very good 18 hole golf course, 10 minutes walk from the town centre, in Les Praz. Open from May until the first winter snow. Chamonix is the perfect holiday destination for any season!
Other places of interest which can be reached within easy driving distance for day trips are Annecy, Geneva, Evian and Gruyere. Italy is also just over the other side of Mont Blanc, 15 km away.
How to get there
BY AIR Our recommendation is that you fly to Geneva (Switzerland) airport, which is only 50 miles away and takes little more than an hour by road. It is motorway/dual carriageway all the way.
PRIVATE CAR HIRE
Geneva airport offers a range of car hire companies, but it is really worthwhile picking one up on the Swiss side of the airport (very complicated from the French side!), to access the motorway, as it makes the journey easier.
AIRPORT TRANSFERS
For a minibus service which will meet you from your flight and deliver you to the door. Transfers are approx. 40 euros per person each way. We use Haute Pursuit (www.hautepursuit.co.uk). Go direct to www.hautetransfer.com
Another option is Transcham:
Transcham offers a private door to door service in a comfortable people carrier. You will be met at the arrivals gate at Geneva Airport, and driven directly to your accommodation. If your flight is delayed they will wait for you at no extra charge when you call / text to advise of your new arrival time.
For the return journey you will be collected from your accommodation or agreed location in the Chamonix Valley. Please remember to allow 90 minutes for the journey and time to check-in for your flight.
We can include the transfers costs (in sterling) in with the price of your accommodation and book on your behalf. To do this, please advise us of your dates, flight number and arrival / departure times, contact mobile number and the number of people in your party and we will organise this for you. Please also let us know if you are travelling with Skis or snowboards or require child seats.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
You may choose to travel by train or bus from the airport, although these options do not save you much money, the journey takes longer (over two hours) and you still have to find your own way to the property once you reach Chamonix.
BY THE CHANNEL TUNNEL OR FERRY
Chamonix is 600 miles from Calais and can be reached by motorway nearly all the way.
