The Rhone / French Alps / Haute-Savoie region

Situated in the Haute-Savoie region of France, Chamonix is bordered by Switzerland and Italy and dominated by the incredible Aiguilles de Chamonix mountain chain which peaks at the top of Mont Blanc (4810m) - the highest in Western Europe. Chamonix is fortunate to have two distinct seasons here: summer and winter, but the area is busy for most of the year with various different activities going on throughout.

The Chamonix / Argentiere area

Chamonix has been welcoming travellers and adventurers for over two and a half centuries and can be truly described as an outdoor enthusiast's paradise. The mountain scenery surpasses one's wildest expectations and the Mont-Blanc, jewel in the crown, thrones silently over the Chamonix valley. Argentiere is at the far end of the valley and is a small village in comparison to the town of Chamonix although bustling with atmosphere in its own right.

As a destination Chamonix has a reputation for the extreme and this, whilst undoubtedly true, can mask a wide array of sporting and leisure activities (particularly in summer), peace and quiet, great nightlife, and superb scenery that can be enjoyed at whichever pace suits you. Chamonix is the perfect place to come for a weekend break, a week's holiday, a season, or a lifetime, as you will never run out of things to do or tire of the views!
