Chalet L'Orignal
About the home
This 19th century farmhouse has been renovated to provide guests with a unique alpine experience. Comfort, convenience and luxury were key in the design of this mountain retreat: original stone walls, floor heating, and luxurious materials. The floor-to-ceiling windows and multiple skylights offer incomparable view of the Mont-Blanc, the Aiguille du Midi, the Taconnaz glacier and the Chamonix Valley.
The Chalet is comprised of a main house sleeping up to 14 people. It also has a one bedroom studio attached to it, with a living room and kitchen, providing the opportunity to sleep up to 4 more people (total of 18 persons can sleep in the chalet and studio). Bedrooms 3 to 8 have direct access out to a garden. There is a large wooden terrace with an outdoor jacuzzi and a sauna, all accessed through the old cave which has a shower and massage bed.

We had high expectations from having seen the photos and read up on this place before we booked. The House is an old farmhouse that's been renovated into a sleek modern chalet. The place was superb and lived up to expectations in all aspects. Great kitchen, nice open social spaces, tasteful deco and nice spacious clean rooms. The facilities were super. We used the kitchen the most, thrilled by all the fantastic things you could find in the grocery stores. Through the owners we also booked a private chef for 3 nights, something that was beyond luxury and came at a price no steeper than eating out. The sauna and jacuzzi were also highly appreciated after a day on the mountain. Rooms were comfortable and all had en-suite bathrooms, we slept well, but that could also have been due to long days of skiing, great food and wine. Getting in and around worked well. We flew to Geneva and took a shuttle to the house which dropped us off at the door. Very convenient. All-though they didn't know where the house was they easily found it through the address. Other friends arrived by car. There is a garage and space for two more cars so if you're in a big group mind that you are not all able to park. The buses to the various ski systems pass on the road just below the chalet, but not too often. Chamonix Sud is a 10-15 minute walk away (in ski boots). Brévent and Aiguille du Midi are really close, whereas you have a longer trip to Argentière, Vallorcine or for that matter Les Houches. If you want to be in the slopes early I would however recommend having your own car. I have very little negative to say about the stay. Whatever problems we experienced were quickly solved and we had an amazing time with our friends. |

Stayed at Chalet l'Orignal for 1 week together with my wife, 4 months old baby and 10+ friends. Even though we were so many it did not feel overcrowded, and I think we still had two bedrooms not used. The kitchen and lounge area are very spacious with enough room for everyone and a cozy fireplace . The place is also well equipped with floor heating in all (?) rooms, boot heater, outdoor storage for the skis (possible to lock of course), garage + other parking space, sauna, and best of all, outdoor Jacuzzi with a view of Mont Blanc... Having your own rental car is definitely most convenient, but you can also walk 5-10 minutes to the closest bus station taking you to the ski slopes. Restaurants small supermarkets etc. are also 10 minutes walk from the Chalet. |

I went with my husband and our friends to Chamonix for one week. We had a fantastic time at the chalet, and got some excellent days in the slopes. I have not been to Chamonix before, but I haev a hard time believeing I could have stayed better. The chalet is very close (walking) to the centre, and busses to all the skiing areas goes from within just below the house. The house itself had anything you could possibly want - nice clean and comfortable bedrooms - all ensuite, a huge open kitchen and living area, sauna, hut tub, open fire, a heating rack for your skii boots, you name it. |
