Home description

The studio apartment is on the top (6th) floor of a recently built chalet-style building (with lift). It is situated mid-way on the road between the 2 main lifts in Les Houches, about 500m from each. A short (off-piste) traverse will take you to the Telecabine de Prarion, and equally you can ski straight back to the building, again off-piste, a rare claim in the Chamonix valley!

Les Houches is approximately 7 km from Chamonix town. There is a regular bus service to Chamonix and its ski areas (Aiguille du Midi, Brevent, Flegere, Grand Montets and Le Tour), but to get the most of your stay a car is recommended. There is free, outdoor parking outside the building.

There is a bakery, several restaurants and sports shops (including ski rental) within 5 minutes walk of the apartment. The centre of Les Houches village, with the Tourist Office, Supermarket, and further restaurants and bars, is 1 km, or 15 minutes walk away.

The Rhone / French Alps / Haute-Savoie region

The Rhone Alps, and Haute Savoie in particular are home to some of Western Europes highest peaks, including Mont Blanc. As you'd expect, mountain activities are the focus of most people's holidays in this area. However, beautiful old towns like Annecy and Evian provide plenty of alternatives for the less sporty!


Chamonix / Les Houches area

The Chamonix valley is rightly famous world-wide as the home of Alpinism and is a mecca for the keen skier and climber. Having said that there is more than enough for the mere mortal to enjoy, with 5 separate ski areas in the valley, including the legendary 14km descent of the Vallee Blanche. There is a host of other activities available in the area. In the winter, these include snow-shoeing, cross-country skiing, paragliding and ice-climbing. In the summer, climbing, walking and cycling take over as the main activities as well as rafting and canyoning, but there is plenty for the less adventurous to enjoy, with a spectacular golf course, tennis courts and plenty of swimming pools to lie by while you catch some Alpine rays!


How to get there

One hour's drive from Geneva airport, well served by BA, Swiss and EasyJet
7 - 8 hours drive from Calais (560 miles / 900 km)

Alternatively there are a number of airport transfer companies that can meet you at Geneva and take you directly to the apartment. Typical prices are 40 Euro each way. I can provide names / phone numbers on request.

The apartment is 25 m2 in size, consisting of an entrance area with a bunk bed and lounge area with double sofa bed. There is a sliding door between the bunk bed area and the lounge. There is a bathroom with bath and shower and a small but fully equipped kitchenette and a balcony with one of the best views in the Alps.

There is a TV and DVD player, and speakers for you to plug your MP3 player in to. There is a also a selection of board games.


Further details

On arrival, you will be met by my representative who will welcome you to the apartment, give you the keys and take the security deposit. She will be available throughout your stay, should you have any problems with the apartment. On departure, she will again be at the apartment to take the keys back.

In addition to the rental fee, a compulsory fee of 30 Euro for cleaning the apartment and 10 Euro per person for laundry is payable on departure

In summer, a 'Carte d'Hote' is available on payment of a 'Taxe de Sejour' of 1 Euro per person per night. Please let my representative know on arrival if you would like to obtain this. Once you have decided that you would like to rent the aprtment, I will send you a rental contract. 25% of the booking fee is required to reserve the apartment, with the balance due 8 weeks before arrival. The preferred method of payment is by bank transfer directly to my account, otherwise a cheque is acceptable. As soon as I have received a copy of the signed contract and 25% deposit, I will confirm the reservation.

On arrival, my representative will meet you, and will require a security deposit of 150 Euros before handing over the keys. Assuming all is well, this will be returned on departure, less the fee for cleaning and laundry
