This is probably the most unusual rental apartment in Chamonix if not the all the French Alps and is equally ideal for a family with young children, as a group of friends . We have been here for over 20 years and went for this apartment because we were sick of tiny, cramped, uncomfortable, poorly equipped so called apartments which were more like studios, with only enough hot water to bath a mouse once an hour. Also, we had a child and wanted somewhere for him to play in safety. Of course chalets were available, but they were all miles out of town and we wanted the ski village feel, and the ability to have a drink or two and not run the risk of drink driving and being arrested in the car by the ever vigilant local Gendarmerie.

This apartment is very special for so many reasons, it is has the biggest private garden that is still in the town. In fact it has direct access to two gardens, a hardly used communal one shared with the other 4 flats in the building and a private garden just for this flat. The communal garden even has a hill good enough for kids to sledge down. It is the garden level apartment in a house that dates back over 200 years, so rooms are well proportioned and ceilings are high; and it is not at all claustrophobic like so many of the purpose built local apartments. The flat consists of hallway, large sitting room, kitchen/ diner, 3 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 1 ensuite shower room.

The style of the flat is in keeping with the age of the building and is pretty eclectic and a bit shabby/chic. For example, there are old wooden skis on the wall in the lounge and an ancient grape picking basket. Ample seating is provided by 3 large sofas. There is a television, bluray player and sky TV with UK free to air satellite television. Free wifi. The kitchen is well equipped and has an American style fridge with ice maker, five ring gas cooker, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier, microwave, toaster and electric kettle. We love to cook so there is an extensive collection of cooking equipment, pots and pans and crockery.

Location. The centre of town and shops are about 5 minutes walk, however there is a coffee shop, a bakery, restaurants and ski rental shops all less than 2 minutes away. The children's ski slopes are around 5 minutes walk, and the bus stop for those wanting to ski out of town is one minute away. There is the sports centre, gym, sauna, swimming pool, ski de fond , ice skating rink and tennis courts less than 3 minutes walk away. There is a free car park across the garden.

We rarely use the apartment these days and used to rent it out to a ski company who used to let it as a managed apartment for 6-8K per week, however getting paid by the ski companies was not so easy, so we now rent it out directly ourselves. We supply a cleaner who comes in for 2 hours per day. The apartment must be returned in the same perfectly cleaned condition at the end of your stay, and so we ask that you do not leave it in a mess as there is a lot of preparation needed between when you leave and the arrival of new guests.

We can be flexible on change over day but it very much depends if the rental dovetails with another rental. We prefer Saturday or Sunday changeover days. One week rental minimum.

The Rhone/French Alps region

Chamonix is one hour from Geneva airport by easy motorway. It is by the MontBlanc tunnel allowing you to visit Italy and the Aosta valley easily. Drive to Megeve for a further extensive selection of slopes. Geneva shopping is only 45 minutes away.


Chamonix is a skiers paradise with a wide selection of terrain and lifts and four ski areas , You can also cross the border to Italy and use your ski pass in Courmayer. The town is compact but extensive with a huge choices of restaurants and bars. Served by multiple supermarkets. There is a comprehensive ski bus service. The valley offers paragliding, ski guiding for the famous Valley Blanche, husky rides, and much more.
