Location, location, location.....perfectly sums up this charming ski chalet in the heart of Chamonix. Chalet Heidi is a newly renovated Chamoniard farmhouse, spacious and beautifully appointed as well as ideally located close to all the amenities of Chamonix. Ski buses servng all the valley's ski/lift areas are within three minutes' walk and shops, bars and restaurants are only a short stroll, as are the Aiguille Du Midi and Le Brevent ski lifts. No need for a car!

Arranged on four levels, the chalet has three double en suite and two twin mezzanine bedrooms which are linked by a children's play area and share a family bathroom. On the ground floor is a spacious but cosy pine-floored lounge/dining room with comfortable sofas, log fire and dining area for ten. A large and well-appointed kitchen leads downstairs to the sunny back garden and barbecue area with patio and seating. In the light and spacious basement are the laundry facilties, ski storage area with bootwarmers as well as a large oak-floored bedroom (double beds and a bunk bed) with separate bath and toilet.

The first floor has two light and airy en suite bedrooms, both with double beds.

The chalet benefits from a private front and back garden, with BBQ and patio seating. There is off road parking for two cars but it is also acceptable to park in front of the chalet in Route Des Pelerins.

Cots and high chairs can be provided. The chalet also has two baby gates and a steriliser.

The Rhône-Alpes region

Rhône-Alpes, just north of Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur, is in south-east France and shares its eastern borders with Italy and Switzerland. The région, and particularly the départements Savoie and Haute-Savoie, is home to some of the most spectacular scenery in the country. In the winter it's a white-washed world of snowcapped peaks where everyone takes to the ski-slopes. In the summer months it's an entirely different place where you can enjoy the lowland pleasures of hiking through flower-filled meadows, swimming in the lakes or enjoying sightseeing.

Chamonix Town Centre

Chamonix Mont-blanc is in a beautiful Alpine valley close to Geneva and the Swiss/ Italian borders. It offers perhaps the best advanced skiing in the Alps as well as plenty of forgiving beginners slopes and intermediate runs over a lift system which runs for 15km through the valley. Chamonix is one of the oldest ski resorts in France and thus retains plenty of charm and character, as well as being large enough to offer a very varied range of activities, unlike some of the newer purpose built resorts. In winter, skiing, snowboarding, snow shoeing and walking (and of course the wonderful apres ski and hearty Savoie cuisine), are the main attractions but there is also a wonderful time for children, teenagers and adults to be had in the summer. There is a lovely golf course 5 minutes from town in Les Praz, as well as tennis, skating, swimming and rock climbing at the large modern Sports Centre, as well as mountain biking and horseback riding - all in a pristine Alpine environment. Chamonix is a very versatile resort with excellent slopes and infrastructure for skiing and snowbarding but also offers the attractions of a large town to non-skiers as well as those who prefer to ski in a more desultory manner!!

Chamonix offers a wonderful array of shops as well as a huge choice of restaurants offering both local Savoie fare (think fondue, mountain meats and raclette! - wonderful when it is cold out and after a hard day on the slopes!) as well as traditional French, Chinese, Italian and Greek cuisine.

At night Chamonix is very lively until the small hours with plenty of entertainment for all age groups - bars with live music, small night clubs , discos and lively 'young' snack bars.

As befits a town of Chamonix's size, there are classical and rock/reggae concerts, cinemas, exhibitions, wonderful Saturday markets and museums to be visited. In Winter there are nighttime children and teenager's ski/ snowboard competitions organised by l'Ecole de Ski Francais which are always well attended.

This year Chamonix has had a bumper year for snow and a season which normally extends until mid-April was continued until the end of May!! Officially the season begins in mid-December but the lifts may open sooner if the snow conditions are right.

The piste areas in the Chamonix Valley are spread over 15km, from Les Houches at the entrance to the valley to Le Tour, at the head, which is linked to Vallorcine and some lovely advanced and intermediate runs; there are also plenty of sunny slopes for beginners as well. Les Grands Montets in Argentiere offers experienced ski and snowboarding slopes as well as a fun snow board park. Les Chosalets offers beginners pretty wooded slopes in a lovely setting . La Flegere in Les Praz, which connects to Le Brevent in central Chamonix , is a winter wonderland of interconnected pistes. One lift pass covering all the ski areas and the ski buses is available at a reasonable price from La Compagnie MontBlanc . Non-skiers can also enjoy the lifts and experience the quaint restaurants/bars in their spectacular mountain settings while watching the ski action.

It is never possible to be bored in the Chamonix Valley! The Golf Club de Chamonix has a high standard and excellent facilties with 18 holes in a beautiful alpine environment. Don't miss Le Cabane, a delightful restaurant located next to the golf course in Les Praz. There are also some lovely walks alongside the River Arve here too.

In the summer, hiking is a great pleasure,wiith many lovely walks on wooded paths or alpine meadows with spectacular views and crisp mountain air, often punctuated by charming chalet snack bars/restaurants such as the famous La Floria in Les Praz or La Cremerie Du Glacier in Argentiere.

Children and teenagers love Les Planards - in winter a beginner's slope - but in summer an exciting journey through the tree tops, with zip wires, bungee jumping and much more! as well as a summer luge (toboggan run) and playground.

In summer, paragliding is very popular, as is mountain biking and horseback riding.

it is also nice to cross borders into Switzerland or Italy. One can drive , via the Tunnel Montblanc, to Aoste in Italy for lunch, shopping or sightseeing, in just 45 minutes! Similarly, Montreux and Lausanne in Switzerland are only an hour's drive away.

"Excellent - Will use again when in Chamonix"

The chalet was perfect. I couldn't fault a thing. Great location, size, facilities and cleanliness.

We had 8 adults in there and there was more than enough space for us in the lounge, kitchen, board storage, bedrooms and bathrooms. The views are spectacular, especially from the balcony. We also took two cars and there was ample space to park both.

There is a great restaurant/bar 50 metres down the street called Jekyll and Hyde which I would highly recommend also.

The chalet is ideal for a large group of friends or family.

It's painful to write this review as I want to be back there instead of being at work!!

With a position between a school playground and a main road one would assume careful noise insulation would be a priority in the build of this fairly recent chalet. Instead both the main bedrooms have… More

The chalet is indeed a new-build conversion of the original Chamoniard barn. Since it was once a barn the stone walls are extremely thick and provide a natural insulation so that the house is cool in summer and extremely cosy and warm in winter, despite the lack of double glazing on some of the windows. We have stayed in this chalet in -20 degrees and it needs very little heating due to the underfloor heating in the basement which radiates heat throughout the four stories and its thick walls..
This chalet occupies a very central and sought after position virtually in the centre of town. Thus there is no need for a car, ski buses are literally 'on your doorstep' and all the attractions of Chamonix are there to enjoy without a car ride or a long walk. Give its proximity to the centre of town one would expect some noise.,.. there is indeed a school close to the house but we have barely noticed its noise and in any case it would only be before school commenced in the morning and in their playtime breaks later on in the day. We have always found it to be a pleasure to be in a French neighbourhood and thus part of the local life in Chamonix.

We take issue with many of the comments in the only review to be found on Trip Advisor. The kitchen is extremely well-equipped , the bedding of a high quality and the chalet is well-maintained and clean . It is indeed hard to know why someone would have felt malicious enough to write a review of this nature. We have a very high guest satisfaction with this property and seldom receive ANY complaints let alone severely critical ones of this nature.
