The Rhône-Alpes region
Chamonix is a long-established, year-round alpine town and the most popular access point for skiing and mountaineering in the Mont Blanc range.
On either side of the centre and within walking distance are the base stations of the cable car to the Aiguille du Midi, for the famous Vallée Blanche glacier run, and a gondola to Le Brévent. A third high-altitude area, La Flégère, is reached by cable car from the nearby village of Les Praz. There are then three other major ski and hiking areas. At the top of the valley are the villages of Le Tour, at the foot of the Balme slopes (with an alternative base at Vallorcine), and Argentière, beneath the Grands Montets - among of the most celebrated sloes in the Alps.
Further down the valley and a short car, bus or train ride is Les Houches. Regular free ski-buses link all ski areas and there are also hourly trains (free with a guest card) to Argentière, Vallorcine and Les Houches.
The Unlimited lift pass covers not only Les Houches but also Verbier in Switzerland and Courmayeur in Italy. There are free shuttle buses through the Mont-Blanc tunnel several times daily to Courmayeur but having a car is useful to explore these Italian and Swiss resorts makes skiing in Verbier a more practical proposition.

"Superbly located stunning apartment"
We stayed in the apartment for a long weekend and couldn't recommend it highly enough to stay in as a base for enjoying the amazing skiing area both in and around Chamonix. In addition, it is located so near to the town centre, that everything is so close by, making it easy to explore the town and all that it has to offer, both in the day and night.
The apartment itself has been decorated to an excellent standard and the interior design has clearly been really well thought through. It is fully equipped so you can be completely self-catering, although you would miss out on the experience of some wonderful nearby restaurants if you did!
All in all, if you are looking for a place to stay in Chamonix that is centrally located, is of a high standard and has wonderful views, this is definitely the place to stay.

"Wonderful apartment in a great location"
The apartment was everything we thought it would be. Located in a wonderful building in a great location. Town centre was only a 5min walk. Access to ski slopes was quick and easy. The apartment was well appointed and tastefully furnished. Communication with the owner was excellent, all our queries were answered promptly, and the rates for the rental were quite reasonable considering the location and time of year. The staff at Chamonix All Year were very helpful and knowledgeable (even went out of there way to assist with a sick traveler). Only negative about the apartment was the lack of TV to watch (TV/DVD was present, but unable to be tuned to any television channels). This was brought to the attention of the owner, so may be rectified in the future. A HDMI cable was provided so a laptop could be used to watch any online material.
all in all, a very pleasant place to call home. Would recommend to anyone wanting to stay in the area.

"Contemporary accommodation in an historic building set in excellent location"
The apartment appeared to have been newly renovated and had everything we needed. The kitchen and dining area made it easy to stay in for the occasional meal (the fresh produce available in the town was excellent). The living area was light and had lovely views with a balcony so we had somewhere to enjoy our local wine. Everything was comfortable and clean - my wife thought it was a real home from home. The property had free parking but we did not use the car around the town as the apartment was so close to all the restaurants, bakeries and cheese and wine shops. We bought a three day lift pass which seemed a bit expensive but was much cheaper than buying individual passes. We went on cable cars, tramway and rack railway all included in pass. There were really nice walks up in the mountains which were well signposted - we did not get lost once! We mainly used the locals informal restaurant near the train station called Elevation 1904 - it was cheap and filling but there were lots of very nice restaurants all over town.
