Le Majestic as the name suggests was initially a palace. One on the most impressive buildings in Chamonix and on every single map, the building was turned into a premier hotel, before finally being converted to apartments during the 1950's.

It is an impressive building with high ceilings, wide corridors and beautiful front gardens at the foot of the hill towards the Brevent ski area.

Situated on the third floor, the apartment is large and can comfortably sleep four adults plus two children. The bedroom has a double bed and sofa bed is in the adjacent room. There are also two sofa beds in the 35 sq metre kitchen diner and living area. This allows great mix and match sleeping with effectively four double beds. There is also a cot bed should that be required.

Featuring a modern kitchen and retro bathroom (although a new shower has been fitted for 2014) as well as two large leather sofa beds we have owned this apartment since 2000 and it has been the venue for some great family and group holidays.

With its central location for the shops and restaurants of Chamonix and the warm, period style interior design of the apartment, it is ideal Chamonix accommodation.

The Rhône-Alpes region

This region of the alps is well known for its skiing but it is little know that actually more visitors come in the summer months for climbing, walking, trekking and cycling. Not only that there is an enormous amount of opportunity for paragliders.

Mont Blanc rakes clouds of their moisture and when the snow starts to fall - as it often does in the early evening - skiers respond like one of the hefty draft horses that pull the colourful carriages through Chamonix's cobblestone streets. A little wary, tensing in midstride, the skiers study the spinning flakes and the fading peaks and wonder how much will fall during the night. At first light, when dawn is little more than a hint of soft pink on the mountain's summit, they awaken to the sound of shovels scraping cobblestone, and pull aside the curtains where, to their delight a foot of fresh powder lies on the ground!

Chamonix Town Centre

About an hour by car from Geneva, the Alps erupt out of the Haute Savoie's gentle rolling hills and valley floors to scrape the sky with the icy spires of the Aiguille du Midi. An astounding 9,000 vertical feet of skiing is at your disposal - your options are limited only by your imagination, experience and fitness.

After all, this mountain village has witnessed feats of extraordinary grace and courage for over two centuries. On Aug. 8, 1786, Dr.Michel-Gabriel Paccard and Jacques Balmat climbed Mont Blanc for the first time. On June 24, 1955 , the Aiguille du Midi tram - an incredible feat of engineering by Count Lora Totino - opened to the

public.

Visitors to this town of 10,000 people can't help but be touched by the region's grandeur and energy. Whether walking past shops full of brightly colored ropes, packs and ice axes, or skiing the Brevent's south-facing Chamois trail, it is impossible to keep your gaze away from the rocky spires of the Aiguilles, or "needles", that

stand in such sharp contrast to the rounded grandeur of MontBlanc.

The moment you arrive in Chamonix you will become aware of a symphony of languages. French, of course, is the dominant theme, but beneath it snatches of ltalian, German, Swedish and English bubble to the surface. Because Chamonix is surrounded by wilderness, life here expresses itself in a reverence for nature, yet its

inhabitants embrace a love of civilisations finer side-comfortablehotels, restaurants that evoke both haute montagne and haute cuisine, shops that offer a wide variety of goods and a full range of

sports facilities.

As much as muscle strength and aerobic conditioning are admiredhere, there is also a gentle side to Chamonix, a side thatacknowledges not everyone is born to ski. Some are born to bowl, to get a massage, to try their hand at roulette in Chamonix's Casino.

Some may want to linger over lunch at the summit of the Aiguille Du Midi, where the air is so crisp and clear you feel as if you can touch Mont Blanc to the West or Italy to the South. Then again, youmay simply be content to sip strong French coffee and munch a Grand Marnier crepe at one of the many sidewalk cafes, while

watching the weather build over Mont Blanc.

For thousands of years, Mont Blanc has served as Chamonix's brilliant beacon - a towering spotlight that attracts thousands of winter supplicants who come to marvel at its wrinkled north face.

"Great Place, Ideal Location"

This big apartment is perfectly situated for both the town and the slopes. Great to have private parking too, as we had a car to visit the other ski area's. It has a very well equipped kitchen, and it was just what we wanted for a great week skiing.

"Perfect location and very comfortable"

I have stayed at Le Majestic several times now. Each time I am so impressed with its location. It takes less than 2 minutes walking to be at the very heart of Chamonix town centre. It's also so easy to walk to any of the lifts on either side. Great if you enjoy skiing or paragliding.
The accommodation is certainly very comfortable and warm, and is ideal for either a small group of friends, or a family of 4. I haven't stayed with my own family yet, but I plan to soon.
