About the home

Chateau de Mairie is a beautiful 17th Century Monument Historique set in 15 hectares of lovely gardens and wooded grounds with its own private lake and chapel.

The gardens were designed by Le Notre who was a famous garden architect in his day and well known for the gardens he created at Versailles. There is a very relaxed atmosphere here, lots of open fireplaces to relax infront of in winter and some pretty spots in the grounds to laze away sunny afternoons. For the more active we have a billiard table and boats to take out on the lake. There is a two bedroom cottage in the grounds which has been newly renovated and is available to rent with the château for larger parties.

The château can sleep 21 guests in 10 double or twin bedrooms and a single. Most of these rooms can take extra beds very easily making it possible to sleep 26. The cottage has two double or twin bedrooms making it ideal for another 4 people, and again it would be possible to add a couple of extra beds if needed.

The château has three en-suite and family bathrooms and a ground floor WC, a fully equipped kitchen with large modern range and lovely antique stove, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, fridge/freezer and all the usual gadgets. There is a large table in the kitchen making it possible to eat rather cosily in there, or our guests can use the dining room which has an open fireplace and seating for 30. The huge main salon has lots of comfy seating, open fireplace and the billiard table. There is a large entrance hall and impressive sweeping staircase leading to the first floor.

The cottage has two large bedrooms, one of these being on the ground floor, together with the bathroom, kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine, cooker, fridge and dining table, and spacious living room. Both properties are heated making them suitable for year round rentals.

The château is set within 30 acres of private grounds with a chapel and lake on site. The lake has a boat that can be used and can be swam in during the summer.

The Northern France / Champagne-Ardenne region

The château is located in a small village within walking distance of the local restaurant. The closest shops are 5 minutes drive away which include a boulangerie, pharmacy and 'corner shop'. The lovely old town of Chalons en Champagne is about 10 minutes drive where you can find large supermarkets and a covered market three times a week. Here you will also find the Grande Romaine golf course. The cathedral city of Reims is about 30 minutes away and Disneyland and Paris itself are within an hour by TGV.

The Chalons-en-Champagne area

We are in the heart of Champagne country and can point you in the direction of the 'route de champagne' which takes you through some pretty villages where you can taste and buy champagne and wine from small family owned producers and from the biggest champagne houses in the world. If you tire of tasting champagne you can take a boat out onto our lake or spend a peaceful afternoon fishing. In summer you can even take a dip to cool off.
