Since its spring 2008 inauguration, Il Sogno has been readily called "home" by many guests. It is a comfortable yet elegant place to unwind in the silence and fresh air of the countryside. It is the ideal vantage point from which to visit the city centre or the gorgeous lakes Martignano, Bracciano and Vico and to take a day trip to the neighbouring regions of Umbria and Tuscany.

Have a swim and then take in the splendour of the setting sun after a busy day of sightseeing, either in the capital, or in the many parks, churches and archaeological sites. Or cook a meal and eat al fresco, after a day of sailing, kayaking and swimming at one of the nearby lakes.

The Studio is newly renovated and ready to welcome you. It is a private guest house that formerly served as an artist's studio to the previous owner and architect of Il Sogno. It is located near the pool and the main house.

The Studio is a stucco building with a terracotta-tiled roof, high chestnut ceilings and large, custom-made, wrought-iron double doors and windows. In addition to the sleeping areas, it boasts a spacious living room with working fireplace and comfortable seating, a dining area and fully-functional kitchen with a beautiful marble sink from Carrara.

Antiques and custom upholstery tastefully enhance the light, airy rooms. The terrace looks over the valley and the hills, has marble bistro tables, a large Carrara marble dining table, wrought-iron chairs, a barbecue, an outdoor sink of hand-carved travertine and a tree-house in a neighbouring century-old olive tree.

Room 1 features a fresco of the volcano Stromboli and is furnished with charming antiques. It has a double bed from a Roman castle, a late 19th century armoire, chest and a pair of beautifully upholstered slipper chairs. The bright and generous private bath has a large tub with shower.

Room 2 has a view of the terrace, the back gardens and hills and offers either a queen-sized bed or two twin beds. The room is furnished with antiques, from the turn-of the century hand-painted bed frames to the chestnut armoire and sitting chair. The private bathroom is tucked under the eaves and has a shower.

Further details outdoors

Our extensive lawn (2 acres!) is great for games: croquet, badminton, volleyball and bocce can all be found here. We also have table tennis in the pavillion. Or take a nature walk on our land and explore the hundreds of varieties of trees, shrubs and flowers, as well as the great variety of birds.

The stream that borders our back yard is home to Etruscan grottos; we also have a small one within our property, next to the stairs that lead to the second guest house, The Brook Cottage, which is almost ready! The Brook Cottage has two bedrooms, a large living area with working fireplace, dining area and galley kitchen

Smoking is not allowed indoors. The Studio Guest House is not suitable for small children and, given the particular characteristics of the house, we ask that discretion be exercised with any children under the age of 12.

The Lazio region

Lazio is a region rich with cultural activities, ancient history, gorgeous nature and wonderful food. Il Sogno is perfectly positioned so you can make the most of your vacation with the least travel time to Rome's historical centre (30 minutes by train, the stop is five minutes away), the volcanic lakes, ruins such as Ostia Antica, Hadrian's Villa, Villa D'Este, Roman catacombs and Etruscan necropoli, quaint medieval towns and ancient settlements.

Il Sogno is a five-minute drive from the old “borgo” of Cesano, a medieval town, originally settled by the Etruscans. There are other medieval towns, such as Bracciano and Isola Farnese, with castles located within their ancient walls. There is also an embarassingly large choice of beautiful towns to visit: Calcata, Trevignano Romano, Campagnano, Anguillara, Tivoli, Civita Bagnoreggio, Nepi and the city of Viterbo.

The area is full of Etruscan ruins (Cerveteri, Veio), and boasts hot springs such as Stimigliano and Le Terre dei Papi, all within a short drive. The world-renowned Olgiata golf course is 4 km away, the Parco di Roma Golf Club is 25 minutes drive, and both the Parco dei Medici Golf Club in Rome and the Golf Club le Querce in Sutri are 35 minutes away. We are also just 30 minutes away from Rome's most famous beach.

That being said, many of our guests have a hard time tearing themselves away from our private paradise. It is nice to have the option of just staying home, reading a book from our library by the pool, playing croquet on a manicured lawn, picking your fruits and vegetables from our gardens and then grilling on your private terrace and watching the sun set over the Roman countryside while you enjoy what may well be your best vacation ever.

Il Sogno is in the heart of Etruria and borders on Veio Park, the Sorbo Valley and Martignano-Bracciano Park. While located within Rome city limits and close to shopping, trains, and other city amenities, Il Sogno has a tranquil countryside setting.

We are next to Rome's Lake District, which is surrounded by unspoiled park land where golf, fishing, hiking, biking, horseback riding, nature walks and birding are year-round activities. In the crystal-clear waters of Bracciano and Martignano, only electric motors are allowed, and both places abound with sailboats, kayaks, peddle boats for rent.

The other volcanic lakes, Vico and Bolsena, are worth a visit as well, and make a nice day trip, especially if you stop along the way at the small town festivals, antique shops and historical sites.

The immediate area surrounding Il Sogno is filled with shops, supermarkets, restaurants. In autumn of 2013 the express train was added making the trip to the center even shorter (24 minutes) for the same price (1 euro). As always, there is free parking at the station.

We are happy to share our favorite hikes, hidden roads to Etruscan and Roman ruins and ideas for what we think is an ideal day in an idyllic setting. We can even provide you with a picnic lunch with fruit and vegetables from our garden, cheese from the nearby farm and local wines!

"Fantastic! Beautiful! With fantastic hosts and awesome tomato passata!!"

From the welcome to the farewell, our stay was fantastic, we were welcomed with some homemade tomato passata, bread, pasta and other goodies, DELICIOUS!! and farewelled with home grown olive oil, with lemons and other citrus growing outside our door. Sheryle, Adriano and their lovely daughter were wonderful hosts, with daily visits and company from (the dog). Sheryle was extremely helpful with any bookings or advice needed, We will definately stay again when we are in Italy next time. The studio was lovely, all mod cons needed, very comfortable!! Thank you for a lovely holiday.

"Absolutely fantastic"

We spent 2 weeks in this lovely studio. From the moment we arrived at the gate we knew this would be something special. We had a warm greeting from Sheryle and were welcomed with a fruit basket picked from their own gardens. Sheryle was brilliant the whole stay and was always available to help and advise. Nothing was too much to ask. The grounds were beautiful as was the studio itself. It was nice after a busy day of sightseeing to come back to a relaxing walk around the grounds picking fruit, or just to relax in the pool. it was a pleasure to stay here and I would fully recommend Il Sogno.

"The most beautiful and perfect place to stay close to rome!"

We are so happy that we chose this place to rent for our Italy holiday. We had a renting car and took day trips to Rome (and other nice places) and loved coming back to his charming property in the evenings and to cool down in the pool. The pool is very special (and clean) with a tree bending over the side and lovely garden surroundings.
Sheryle and Adriano are the best hosts we have experienced, so sweet and helpful. It was also very convenient for us that they are english speaking. We tried some of the restaurants they recommended and had some gorgeous food. We also loved to have vegetables
in the garden for cooking.
All members of the family really enjoyed the stay we had there for two memorable weeks,
Our teenager boys could relax with their laptops in the Studio in the evenings, the grownups liked to sit at the cosy terrace with delicious italian food and wines and our 9-year old girl loved everything, the hosts, their sweet little daughter, the adorable dog and the pool.
Thank you so much, we hope to return once in the future, and will recommend it to our friends.
Kind regards from Charlotte, husband Halvor, mother-in-law Annichen and children.

We' ve had a very nice stay in il Sogno, it's a quiet, beautiful place. Sheryle and Adriano did make us feel very welcome. We liked the fresh vegetables from there own garden. The garden is one big park were the kids can play football or tennis with a refreshing pool.
