The Languedoc-Roussillon / Pyrenees-Orientales region
The Languedoc-Rousillon region of France, near Spain and edged by the Pyrenees Mountains, is sun-kissed and delightful. It features great beaches, quaint Medieval villages, outdoor recreation and wn. The wineries here produce robust varieties with cheap pricetags.
Ceret / Maureillas area
Maureillas is a typical French Catalan village which is well served with local amenities and benefits from around 300 days sunshine per year. Within a pleasant and short stroll there is a bakery, butcher, pharmacy, newsagent and several restaurants. Five minutes drive along a tree lined road you will find the artistic town of Ceret, a quiet back town lined with plane trees along the restaurant filled main streets. Picasso, Matisse, Braque and Dali all visited and feature in the excellent gallery of modern art. In the opposite direction a 15 minute drive will see you arrive at the Spanish border. Head a little farther towards the coast and you will discover small Catalan villages such as Collioure and Banyuls
How to get there
Ryanair to Gerona Ryanair, BMI and Fly BE to Perpignan From the A9 Arriving from Carcasonne, Toulouse, Montpellier or Perpignan or Girona
DRIVING From the A9 you should be in the property in about 10 minutes
Take the exit No. 43 from the Peage Marked Le Boulou
After you have made your payment at the toll booth (this is a coin operated toll booth during the evening and at some weekends)
You will approach a roundabout
Follow signs (second exit on the roundabout) to Ceret and St Jean Pla de corts
Keep straight ahead on this road until you reach a roundabout where you will see a sign for Maureillas and a Chemist on the roundabout with a green flashing sign, take the second exit where you will enter the village of St Jean Pla de corts.
Follow this road all the way through the village and you will leave St Jean pla de Corts and drive over a bridge. You will drive for another two kilometers on this road past vineyards.
You will reach a T junction at the end of this road , Turn left towards Maureillas Village across a small bridge and approach a roundabout where you will turn left.
Drive through the main village road where you will see the Tabac, Patisserie, and La Poste. About 100 metres past the shops take a right turn down a road (Route de Las Illas) signposted Las Illas.
About 80 metres down this road you see small municipal building (Salle de Fetes, turn left immediately opposite down a road called – Rue del Trouil, take the first right off this road (Le Blacon), Take another right turn after 20 metres and you are entering Rue de MacaBeu and are at Casa d’Or.

Further details indoors: You enter 'Casa d'Or' into the lounge and dining area. The lounge has SKY TV showing all UK free to air channels along with TV, DVD, audio system, X-box and free access to a PC linked to broadband Internet. Telephone is available on request. The 30m2 lounge leads to an open plan kitchen with a large fridge/freezer with cold water dispenser and ice maker, dishwasher, combination microwave, and washing machine. The lounge contains patio doors leading to the pool area and also a large panoramic window with motorised blinds looking onto the front terrace and mountain views. There are two separate bedrooms with double beds and a third bedroom with two single beds. There is a separate toilet and bathroom.

We arrived Saturday to a very friendly welcome from your local representative, who made us feel welcome and at home. The villa is very comfortable, very well equipped – home from home. We spent a lot of time relaxing round the pool eating, drinking and soaking up the sun. We did venture out on lots of trips, but always eager to get back to Casa d’Or.
