CAN PABLO
About the home
FIRST FLOOR MAISON DE VILLE : DELIGHTFUL SPACIOUS FRENCH STYLE APARTMENT WITH PRIVATE SUNNY PATIO IN OLD HISTORIC CENTRE OF STUNNING CATALAN MARKET TOWN, SITUATED IN A NARROW COBBLED STREET, MINUTES FROM LIVELY CERET'S NUMEROUS CAFES, RESTAURANTS, CHIC SHOPS, ART MUSEUM, BUSTLING SATURDAY MARKET AND A SHORT WALK FROM THE SURROUNDING BEAUTIFUL GREEN ROLLING HILLS.
First impressions of Ceret are stunning, a tangle of narrow streets lined with 100 year old plane trees giving shade to a series of cobbled squares in which traces of the old mediaeval ramparts can still be seen. We came here to visit the renowned Museum of Art and were seduced by Ceret's breathtaking charm and fascinated by its historic and artistic importance. Everywhere you wander in Ceret, your eye falls on something of beauty, be it the charming old buildings, wide leafy boulevards, picture postcard distant views of the surrounding hills or its maze of tiny medieaval cobbled lanes and squares.
Can Pablo is a spacious, bright, comfortable, typically French style self-contained first floor apartment, within our 19th century maison de ville, with its own private south-facing sunny patio ideal for al fresco wining and dining. The lounge overlooks the narrow cobbled street at the front and it is less than a minute's walk from here to the Place de la Republique, one of Ceret's most elegant squares with the 13th century Porte de France and adjoining old water fountain enclosed by fine period buildings.
One step further and you are right in the old centre, where you'll find a marvellous array of cafes, restaurants, enticing little shops, bakeries, Maison de la Presse, supermarket - you'll be totally spoilt for choice and more so when you browse the buzzing Saturday market where rows of stalls jam the squares and boulevards, selling jars of homemade cassoulet, foie gras, magret steaks of duck, saucisson, fresh herbs, olives, fruit and vegetables, creamy cheeses, crusty bread, sumptuous pastries, mouthwatering rotisserie chicken - your taste buds will be overwhelmed by the aromas.
The impressive Museum of Art, containing many fine works by artists such as Picasso, Braque and Dufy, is a couple of minutes walk from Can Pablo, as is the largest Baroque church in France, St. Pierre situated in the heart of the old centre. Yet it takes only a few minutes to stroll out of town and find yourself in the countryside with a choice of many walks to suit all levels, where you can glance back and enjoy the gorgeous views of Ceret or immerse yourself in the pleasures of the surrounding countryside. The flora and fauna are delightful, the scent of wild herbs intoxicating and the peace will only be broken by the birdsong or tinkling of goats' bells.
Can Pablo consists of a lounge, fitted kitchen, two bedrooms, shower room and a passageway/library leads from the kitchen to a long, shuttered door out to the patio. There is everything here to make your stay enjoyable. We have tried to preserve the charm of the ancient by retaining features such as the old tiled floors, traditional wooden shutters on the windows, an old marble kitchen sink, old chimney/fireplace, attractive internal windows and double glass doors but have modernised where necessary to make your stay here comfortable and practical. The shower is modern, the kitchen is well-equipped and there is town gas for cooking and central heating.
The kitchen has everything you may need for a self-catering holiday ( including those first essentials like tea, milk, fruit juice, wine, butter, cheese, oil, vinegar, seasonings, washing up liquid, kitchen towels, loo rolls etc. which we include for you as a welcome pack) , and you will certainly want to enjoy your meals outside on the patio. When you feel like a break from cooking, though, you need only walk a few minutes to make your choice of al fresco cafe or restaurant. Choose our nearest one, Cafe France, and you will feel as if you're on the set of a Jean Renoir movie. During the long, warm summer evenings the streets are very lively, the cafes and restaurants overflowing, impromptu music and sardane dancing abound and the atmosphere is intoxicating. Sit outside the Grand cafe sipping a pastis and imagine Picasso at the next table not so very long ago......
Can Pablo is perfect for couples or for one or two single people sharing. There is a double bed in the bedroom just next to the patio at the rear and the 2nd bedroom has a 3/4 size period French walnut bed which is like a small double size bed. The bedrooms have separate entrances from the passageway but are interconnected. Couples can use this 2nd bedroom as a dressing room. There are plenty of books filling the shelves and bookcases in the passageway which you are most welcome to read and enjoy.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Pyrenees-Orientales region
Look at a map of France and you'll see that the Pyrenees-Orientales region in the Languedoc-Roussillon is geographically the most southerly area of France - the true 'South of France' in the opinion of many of us who live here!
Think of the region of Pyrenees-Orientales and think 'mer et montagnes' , sea and mountains, the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees with the majestic Canigou.. Add to this, pretty 'wine route' villages full of old stone terracotta tiled houses, ancient monasteries, monuments and churches, tree-lined avenues, wonderful markets, good inexpensive regional wines, enticing local restaurants, over 300 days of sunshine a year, the fascinating and attractive small city of Perpignan, fetes and ferias, stunning landscapes, the proximity to Spain for an enriching change of culture........what more could you ask for?
There is so much to do and see in this beautiful area of France and likewise just across the border in Spain. This is why visitors return year after year. We are certain you will be captivated by our beautiful town and the wonderful area it is situated in.

Situated right in the centre of Céret, close to the Cafe de France, Atelier de Fred (restaurant) and the main free parking (Les Tins), this is a great place to be to take in all that Céret has to offer. The boulangeries, boucheries and market are all close by. John and Denise are lovely, friendly hosts (living above the apartment), and the welcome pack ensures that the holiday starts well. The small terrace is a little sun trap with enough space for 2 to dine al fresco. Recommended. |

We've rented many apartments and this was the best equipped we have ever found. Great location, easy free parking, charming town, and delightful hosts. You can walk to many restaurants from this spacious and light apartment. Ceret's Saturday market day is exceptional. We will definitely come back again. |

John and Denise were very helpful even before I arrived, warning me about the Saturday market day parking craziness. their directions were flawless and indeed their location is so perfect for visiting Ceret. The apartment was sweet, homey, clean and had lots of character. The kitchen is well supplied with whatever one requires to prepare meals but of course, the town has many inviting spots to eat. I would not hesitate to recommend Can Pablo to anyone..Nancy from Toronto |
