Home description

The apartment is very well situated, with regard to travelling around and availing of the wide variety of facilities, services, entertainment and sporting activities that abound in this beautiful corner of Catalan France.

The village of St. Jean Pla de Corts is a small, quaint village, set in the foothills of the Pyrenees. It is located only 2.5km off the motorway between Perpignan and Barcelona (E 15 / A9). Nestling between Le Boulou and Ceret, it is within easy driving distance of beautiful Mediterranean beaches, the Cote Vermeille and the high Pyrenees . Perpignan is approximately 25 km to the north. The border with Spain is less than 10 km away.

Swimming in the Mediterranean at Collioure or Argeles sur Mer, only 25 km away, can be very enjoyable.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Pyrenees-Orientales region

Situated along the south-eastern part of France, the Languedoc-Roussillon region enjoys a very favourable climate, and magnificent scenery.

The warm Meditteranean waters are ideal for swimming, sailing and other water-sports during many months of the year.

The region is steeped in history, with many historical buildings preserved intact.
Almost each small town in the region has a Tourism Office, providing detailed and informative literature to help the visitor.

The Roussillon Region

The climate is generally dry and hot. Breezes provide refreshing comfort during mid-summer days.

There are many places to visit and explore, including;

• Collioure- swimming, sailing, sight-seeing, markets and festivals, museums, restaurants

• Argeles sur Mer – swimming, shopping, markets, sight-seeing, festivals, restaurants

• Ceret – Museum of Modern Art (permanent display of works by Picasso and others), restaurants, festivals

• Amelie les Bain – thermal baths, health / fitness centres

• Elne –town steeped in history (once the capital of the region), cathedral with fine cloister, festivals, markets restaurants

• Numerous vignerons in the area – where a wide variety of Roussillon wines may be tasted and purchased

• Thuir – historical town, festivals

• Perpignan – capital of the region, historical centre, shopping, dining, exhibitions, guided tours, concerts, cinemas, festivals, main railway and bus stations, airport, car hire

• Explore the unique Cote Vermeille headlands and sea-coast

• Travel up the valley from St. Jean, past Ceret, Amelie les Bains, Arles sur Tech, and on to Prat de Mollo. Branch off to stop and explore Serralongue (visit the church and the museum), Lamanere (the most southerly hamlet in France). Visit St. Laurent de Cerdans – shop for exquisite linen articles that are made in the village.

• Go hill walking, mountain climbing, paragliding, rafting, cycling and golfing in the region.

• Take a trip and do a full circle of the Mt. Canigou (2,784 metres high) area. Canigou is a prominent and impressive landscape feature of the area. Its mood changes with each day. Stop at quaint villages like Llauro, Oms, Prunet-et-Belpuig, la Bastide, Valmanya, Baillestavy….to explore medieval churches and chapels, museums, art centres.

• Taste the local cuisine and meet the friendly Catalan people.

• Slip over the border into Spain and sample some of the beauty and flavour of the Costa Brava. Don’t miss seeing Cadaques. To get over the border into Spain can take as little as ten minutes from St. Jean. Once in Spain, Figueres, the Costa Brava, Girona and Barcelona are all within easy reach.


Ceret / St Jean Pla de Corts area

St. Jean Pla de Corts is a quaint, old, village, located beween Le Boulou and Ceret.

It is set in the foothills of the Pyrenees mountains, yet is quite close to the sea coast.

There are interesting local markets in St. Jean once a week, and in many neighbouring villages.

The Plan d'Eaux (lake) is only 2 km away, and provides an opportunity for swimming and water sports, as well as a leisurely location at which to relax and unwind.

There are local summer festivals and exhibitions in the village, with Ceret being a major point of interest.


How to get there

Nearest airports are Pepignan and Girona. Others are Carcassone, Toulouse and Barcelona. Car hire, bus and taxi services at these airports.

Trains link Perpignan with major towns in France and in Spain. Car hire companies are also located in Perpignan.

Local bus and train services are also available.

If arriving by car, on the E15 / A9 Autoroute (Motorway) take the exit for Le Boulou / Ceret. Follow the direction Ceret. St. Jean Pla de Corts is only 2.5 km from the Autoroute exit. The apartment is situated in the centre of the village of St. Jean Pla de Corts. Follow the sign marked Vieux Ville, to the Place de la Republic. The apartment is the basement of No.2 Place de la Republic (house called Belle Vue).

Car parking is available on the Place de la Republic and on the streets nearby, and in the (modern) village centre.

Domestic rubbish can be disposed of in Municipality bins located within a short distance of the apartment. A “bottle-bank” is situated in the village.

Laundrettes are to be found at the Intermarche Supermarket (within 3 km of the apartment), in Ceret and in Le Boulou.

A local bar / restaurant provides good food, at very reasonable prices, most evenings of the week.

A booking deposit of € 200 must be paid, in order to secure the reservation.

The full balance of the Tariff must be paid at least six weeks prior to arrival.

A € 100 returnable deposit is also required in advance, to cover damage and breakages.
