The Languedoc-Roussillon region
The area is ideal for for walks in the nearby foothills of the Pyrenees. Other outdoor pursuits available in the area are canyoning, climbing, paragliding, horse riding, trekking, fishing, golf and mountain biking (available for hire!).
The area is rich in history beginning with prehistoric man (450,000 years old) whose remains lie in the Tautavel museum near Rivesaltes. Romanesque churches with frescoes from the middle ages bear witness to the rich development of new styles of church architecture.
It is the setting for the book 'Murder in Paradise by David Turner. This book is a light hearted examination of the activities of the northern Europeans who settled in Roussillon hoping for the 'good life'. It not only sets the scene and describes the activities of the many Europeans who settled here, but also describes the area and its many attractions from palaces of the Kings of Majorca in Perpignan and Collioure to the extensive mountain walks in the Pyrenées. Not forgetting the mysterious exploits of the Cathars and Popes to stamp out heresy. For anyone planning to visit the area the book gives a fairly comprehensive idea of what to expect and why so many are attracted to setlle in this region.

The villa is located near St. Ferreol and Ceret. St. Ferreol with its surroundings grounds is a place of quite solitude and serenity. It is great for walks and relaxing with the scenic beauty,
Ceret has a more cultural feel and is known for the vibrant and artistic history. Great to visit for its markets and museums. Cultural events throughout summer season. Good restaurants. Ideal for exploring countryside & seaside.
