This beautiful house sleeps10 people comfortably (plus 2 small children) and can be organised into two separate apartments ( sleep 4 & 6 respectively)
The Mas is surrounded by mature gardens with a number of shady terraces to enjoy a quiet read and a glass of wine. The outdoor summer kitchen , BBQ area comes with a large wooden dining table and chairs with pergola (seating 12 ) , all overlooking the mountains.
At the front of the property,accessed from the 2nd floor, there is a large roof terrace overlooking vineyards, olive groves and countryside, complete with a long awning for much needed shade.
To the side of the property there are stone steps leading down into a fabulous floodlit 10x5m pool,which is surrounded by landscaped gardens, sunbathing terraces. The whole property benefits from sun at all times of the day.

The gardens are mature and well stocked with plants, trees and shrubs. The roses are glorious and the smell from the Mexican orange flower is wonderful.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Pyrenees-Orientales region
Mas Gounielle is located on the Route de Llauro, just outside the villages of Llauro and Torderes and just a few minutes drive ( or 20minute walk ) from Forques.
The Pyrenees Orientale is one of the most delightful and sunny regions of Southern France, with over 300 days of sunshine per year .
It is easy to understand why it is one of the most prolific wine producing areas in the world.
It also has everything you could ever need in a holiday destination:
In the North the holiday resorts of Canet and Canet plage, St Cyprien ( Waterworld park) and Baccarates.
In the South sample the delights of Spain, the pretty coves and medieval towns of Spanish Costa Brava : Figueras, Gerona, Pals, Roses.
To the West the Pyrenees mountains and skiing , also Mount Canigou (10,000ft) which is sacred to the Catalan people, here the ancient and still inhabited abbey of St Martin de Canigou clings precariously to the craggy side of the mountain.
To the East the Mediterranean sea and lovely old fishing port of Colliure (30 mins drive) and the fun and entertainment of Argeles sur Mer . There are restaurants and bars to suit everyone..
Perpignan,formerly ruled by the Kings of Majorca, is just 25 minutes drive away through the vineyards .
The area is well served by airlines with flights into Perpignan (25 minutes), and Gerona (40 minutes). A little further afield are beautiful Barcelona and the amazing Carcassonne each at approximately two hours, putting their airports (and day-trips) within easy reach.
The Ceret / Torderes area
Mas Gouneille is within walking distance of Forques ( 20minutes ) or just a couple of minutes drive from the village of Forques, here you will find a boulangerie/patisserie, butcher, chemist, bar and post-office.
It is also only a ten minute drive from Thuir , one of the largest towns of the region. Here you will find supermarkets, restaurants, bars and local shops for all your needs.
You are also only a 15 minute drive from Ceret, the other significant town of the region. The world famous Musee d'art Modern is located here (set up by Picasso himself) as well as shops, supermarkets, cafes, restaurants. and bars.
Both towns have superb Saturday morning markets, an absolute must visit if you are staying here. Both also have local cinemas (French language only).
The Mas is also only a 25 minute drive from the main town of this region Perpignan. Here you will find everything you need , including restaurants, bars, cafes. Lots of shopping opportunities clothes, gifts shops and speciality shops and the Rive Gauche Cinema showing 'voice originale' films. There are also commercial centres at both the South and North of Perpignan with large hyper markets. During August Thursday is party night in Peprignan with various street musicians and performers. All the shops stay open late and the atmosphere is wonderfully friendly and relaxed.
Directly outside the Mas to the left is the La Costelle restaurant, serving typical Catalan cuisine (for meat lovers).
Also the Mas is on the edge of a Natural Park, perfect for beginner and seasoned walkers alike
