The Languedoc-Roussillon region
Nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenees, near the Med and the Spanish border, beautiful Ceret is ideally situated. It has a wonderful climate - about 300 sunny days a year - and beautiful surrounding countryside! The town itself is a fascinating mix of history and modern day easy living.
The central streets are lined with tall leafy plane trees providing welcome shade in the hotter months and under which are lots of open air cafes, bars and restaurants - so inviting on a warm summer day.
Interspersed are boutiques, museums, art galleries, supermarkets, bakeries and patisseries and all are set off by the beautiful and sometimes ancient building and cobbled streets that enrich the centre of the town. No wonder so many famous artists, Picasso included, came and stayed and painted in the village and its surrounds.
These streets and the local squares host more than the weekly Saturday morning and summertime Tuesday evening markets, as they also come alive for a number of festivals, fetes and musical events, ranging from the cherry festival at the end of May, the running of the bulls in July to the musical and dancing events ranging from Jazz to local Sardanes or communal dances.
While there is so much to see and do in Ceret, the surrounding countryside will also tempt you to explore further:
For the Beach Lovers there are all the wonderful and scenic beaches within easy visiting distance, from the nearest at Argeles Plage all the way down to the beautiful beaches near Roses in Spain.
For the History Buffs - well the area is alive with historical monuments and sites, ranging from well before the times of the Cathars to after the Second World War.
For the Golfers, there are numerous golf courses within easy driving distance.
For the Cyclists and Walkers the region is interlaced with tracks for you to explore - and there is plenty of room to store bikes in our downstairs area.
And for the Foodies among us - well, the local produce is so amazing that you will be hard pressed to find poor food, and in Ceret, for example, if you wish to eat in L'Atelier de Fred you will need to book at least 10 days in advance!
Ceret is centrally situated and easily accessible by air, road and rail:

"Great bolt hole in Ceret"
Four of us (two couples) stayed in Chez Beaumont between Christmas and New Year. The location was great, smack-bang in the middle of Ceret so a very easy walk to the restaurants, bars and art gallerie… More
Glad you enjoyed yourselves and we know you'll enjoy your next stay in May by which time Ceret will be absolutely beautiful, the cherries will be ripe, the weather warmer than at New Year and the wifi will be connected!
