York is centred in Northern Yorkshire, England's largest and most rural county. Home to the Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire Moors, Vale of York and the coastal region. Each with it's own distinct, natural beauty and charm.

Whilst visiting York why not take a trip out to some of the stunning stately homes including Castle Howard, Harewood House and Beningbrough Hall & Gardens to name but a few or even the delightful ruins of Bolton Abbey with its picturesque river and moorland path walks.

Host to a diversity of historic market towns including Malton, Thirsk, Hemsley and Knaresborough, not only an excuse to induldge in a little retail therapy but take in the beautiful surrounding and local culture.

Central York

York is such a special place to visit at all times of year, there is always something to see and do. The National Railway Museum, the Jorvik Centre, Fairfax House, the gild Halls and the Mansion House.....the list is endless.

In spring the daffodils surrounding the city walls are spectacular and York races in the summer create a colourful spectacle. As Christmas approaches, the Early Music Festival in November and the very popular St Nicholas Fayre keep the streets bustling with excitement; not forgetting all the many and varied music and religious festivals in York Minster.

"Fantastically placed for the City"

You can't get much closer to the City walls of York when staying here.

The place was very clean and furnished with the period of the property in mind, ideal for groups.

We stayed as an all girl group, it was perfect for what we needed, would definitely stay again and would recommend to others.

"Lots of character"

We come to York every year for the start of our 'Christmas festivities' so we have stayed in various apartments in and around the City and this is definitely one of the best and we would indeed return!
The owner/Managers were great both before and during our stay. They communicated well and sent full details in good time before our arrival and they also contacted us when we arrived to make sure everything was to our liking. And indeed it was, especially the thoughtful hamper with Tea,milk, coffee and mince pies! :-)
The property is full of character and a great layout, especially with a young child.
The only thing I would say is that as this is an old Georgian property with high ceilings, sash windows etc,all the features that make it a stand out property, it can get cold in the Winter months and so I would simply advise to make sure you take dressing gowns, no need for hot water bottles as they are just one of the little extras that are already supplied for your stay!
All in all a great holiday rental, full of charm, character, very centrally located but with no city noise...and we even got a late check out at no extra cost due to the property not being immediately rented on our departure.
We will def. be back next year!

"Really very good"

A beautifully presented apartment with a lot of character. It had a warm and friendly feel and was very clean and tidy. Odd quirkiness in the layout with the fridge/freezer in the hall way and the the shower hose trapped inside the soap dish... but these were not worth worrying about. So often rental accommodation can seem tired and functional, lacking charm... but not this one, which had bags of charm and was also in a fantastic position near to the Minster. The price was very reasonable.

"Home from home near the centre of York"

We visited York to see our son at university and to have a holiday at the same time. We chose 45 Monkgate let by York Holiday Homes at random and were pleasantly surprised to find that the property owner and staff were friendly and helpful and keen to ensure that we enjoyed our stay.

We all loved the property itself - clean, plenty of space for the 6 of us (3 adults and 3 teenagers), comfortable (could not get anyone to go out on the last night!) and we all felt at home there. There is parking for a car and it is very close to the centre of York - the Minster, Shambles etc. so there were no complaints about having to go too far on foot!

I would definitely recommend this property and York Holiday Homes.

"Amazing Easter Weekend"

Stayed in the whole of 45 Monkgate.....best word to describe the complete experience is 'amazing' from the customer service I received from York Holiday Homes (answered all my 'many' annoying questions with really helpful answers and great advise....as I had never been to York before) to the accommodation which was absolutely fantastic. Each apartment in Monkgate house has a stunning and really spacious living room and all the kitchens have all the mod cons... and with little touches like pints of milk and little biscuits left for our arrival........... it really took the stress of organising a large trip away knowing we were staying in such lovely accommodation. The location was also fantastic and this actually saved us all money as we did-not need to use taxis as we were able to walk into York to carry out the activities we had planned I will definitely be back for another holiday as even if there was not as many of us as we could just stay in one/two of the apartments!

"comfortable, clean and within walking distance to most attractions"

We found this apartment on the web and as we were travelling from Australia we just booked it hoping it would be everything they said it would be. We found apartment to be comfortable and clean, it definitely suited our needs as a family group and it was in walking distance to most attractions. The staff were very helpful whenever you had a query.

"A pleasant period property but with a cold, unfriendly management style"

We rented the first floor apartment for a long weekend Xmas shopping. The property is ideally situated a few hundred yards from Monk Bar. It is in Georgian style with high ceilings, light and airy in the summer no doubt, but cold and draughty in winter, and very cold in management style.
In the welcome folder, we were greeted by a list of rules. We have enjoyed holidays in rented flats and cottages all over the UK and have never seen a list of do's and don'ts like it. Is it good business practice to treat clients as if they were small children?
We returned from lunch one day to find the manager had been into the property. We'd left the central heating on (unintentionally) while we went out. They switched it off and left us a rather curt note about it, asking for a contribution towards the heating costs because – as they put it - 'utility bills are extremely high !' (as if we didn't know). Needless to say they didn't get a contribution as their officiousness spoiled our weekend.
They should try sealing the draughts before demanding more money from clients.
We will not be returning.

"Brilliant location, lovely apartment"

Am giving a rating of excellent despite a couple of issues with the boiler - but can happen to anyone and the staff all dealt with it in a professional and friendly manner even offering to move us to another of their properties. Very nice apartment and fantastic location just a minute's walk from the city walls.

Appreciated the free parking in York centre, spacious bedroom and living room, double room a bit small but didn't affect our stay in the slightest.

Would recommend, in easy walking distance of all York city centre shops and restaurants and bars.

"Fabulous property close to the centre of York"

A group of 10 ladies rented the complete house (3 apartments) for a weekend in November; we loved it! All the homely touches made it really special (things like hot water bottles, books, magazines, soft toys for children ~ not that we took any with us!).

We have definite plans to return again next year, and it was great being able to park safely and securely at the rear of the property.

I knew beforehand that WiFi was now available at this property, but as I didn't handle the actual booking, I hadn't realised that it would be charged for.

"Great apartment, tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean, superb location"

Having stayed in several of York Holiday homes porperties, I had no hesitation in booking with them for this holiday. Due to mobility problems with one of our party, we chose flat 1/ 45 Monkgate for it's ground floor location. This suited our requirements perfectly- there was even a place to store the wheelchair. As allways the YHH staff were able to advise us with property selection, and they were on hand if required. Parking space at the rear was easily accessable and the location ideal with pubs, restaurants and shops nearby. Highly reccomended- thanks YHH
