About this location

The Yorkshire region

Visit "" for very good information regarding Whitby and the surrounding area.

The Historic City of York with a Designer Outlet "McArthur Glen" on the outskirts is only about an 1hr away with Robin Hoods Bay & Scarborough just a short drive South.

Heart Beat Country, Goathland is only approx' 20 minutes drive away.

8 miles to the North is Runswick Bay, a realtively unknown & beautiful tranquil place and excellent for walkers as it forms part of the Cleveland Way.

There are some wonderful eating houses around Whitby, "Harrys Wine Bar" on the Harbour side is very good, while further a field 1 mile out on the moors road heading towards Middlesbrough is "The Stables" with excellent food.

Not forgetting "The Magpie" famous fish & Chip restaurant just a 2min walk away and Whitbys latest "Witherspoons" which is great for breakfast or a good quality cheaper meal with the usual top branded drinks at knock down prices.

Central Whitby

Whitby is ideally located for walking and visiting local towns and resorts in the vicinity.

The 13th Century Historic Abbey Ruins on the Cliff top overlook the town and Harbour. There are excellent Wine Bars/ traditional ancient Public Houses and of course amusements for the children with us and within us.

Twin Piers protrude from the harbour and after restoration work both can now be accessed. You can go fishing from the Piers, or Boat fishing from the harbour by private charter for approximately £35pp.

Why not venture along the Cliff top beyond the Abbey to Saltwick Bay, here you can get a bite to eat & drink and perhaps go "winkling".

Grosmont only a short drive away welcomes you with a Steam Railway heading to Pickering and sometimes serves lunch onboard on Sundays, this is a journey through beautiful countryside.

There are also occasional Steam engines leaving from Whitby in Summer months and a Santas Special during the Xmas period.

"Perfect Cottage for a Great Winter Weekend Away with friends!!"

Fantastic cottage right in the centre of Whitby. Very clean and beautifully decorated to a high standard, with very comfy beds. I would definitely recommend this holiday rental to others and will hopefully go back for a visit next year. This was a great cottage for a winter weekend away with friends, the cosy log burner and the extra touch of Christmas decorations made it perfect!!
The communication with the owner Colin was very good, he was very helpful and informative throughout the whole booking experience.

Thank you so much for pointing out that you intend to return which paints a very good picture for future guests. The hopefully tasteful Xmas Decorations are now put out each year to enable guests to get into the spirit of Xmas as soon as possible.
Here's hoping all our guests enjoy Gulls Cry as you have and may we wish all past, present & future guests a Very Merry Christmas
Kind regards

Lovely cosy cottage, we will be going back, beautifully decorated within walking distance to the heart of Whitby.

Always feel humbled when good reviews are posted and feel we are hitting the areas that are important to us and our guests. Any negatives no matter how small, we always strive to improve on.

A near perfect house!! Very clean and homely. No detail forgotten. We have been visiting Whitby for around 6 years and try and visit at least twice a year, never found a house that we wanted to rebook… More

That's a wonderful review thank you so much, your very welcome to revisit anytime you need another "fix" of
Fish 'n' Chips and Seagulls.
Hope to see you soon and any ideas to improve further seriously considered -------- then probably ignored, lol
No seriously, if you do think we can improve, and that goes for any guests, please let us know.

Much appreciated review once again.
To maintain standards, we have recently redecorated the Lounge/Hall and Bedrooms as well as updating the TV with a new 42" ELED System and also replaced Bedding for our future and returning guests.

"Superb cosy cottage in easy reach of harbour"

A beautifully decorated and furnished cottage with all the amenities you need. It was spotlessly clean and immediately became our home during our short stay. Only a minute's walk from the harbour and Colin included a car park token which meant we could just leave the car for the duration of our stay. Would definitely recommend and would return again.

Many thanks for a great review and pointing out how the changes to the parking system in Whitby can be easily managed with a little thought. For concerned future visitors to Whitby there are still many many spaces, but only if you have a permit.
Day permits are I believe £6, but I currently leave a free 4 day permit to ease the burden of having to get one after travelling.

"Perfect place to stay in Whitby"

Six of us stayed in Gulls Cry Cottage in September and had a lovely break, the cottage is extremely comfortable, nicely set up and ideally situated in Whitby. I have already recommended this cottage to a work colleague and would happily recommend to anybody wishing to visit Whitby.

Gulls Cry gets a lot of repeat customers and through their recommendation, new guests. It is really thoughtful of guests to take the time to pass on enough detail of Gulls Cry to encourage others to visit.
Many thanks for this lovely review.

"The Very Essence of Whitby"

A delightful cottage, close to the harbour yet peaceful (except for the cries of the eponymous gulls, of course). Car park across the road. Very well appointed and comfortable. Exactly as described… More

Grateful of your kind & swift review of Gulls Cry, so soon after leaving from your break.
Appreciate you chose to say "exactly as described" which is quite important to me and paints the picture for future guests to evaluate for themselves.
