CASA NOBILE - car NOT necessary/Spoleto centre
from £48 /night help
Apartment | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6
Large private pool included in rate, 7 miles away, at our Villa Marianna.
Casa Nobile is perfectly located, if you are wishing to be without a car, within easy walking distance of the train station and in the historic, pedestrian centre of one of the oldest cities in Italy, a city that predates Rome, a beautiful, fairy-tale, tiny city, filled with shops, bars and restaurants, dotted under arches, lining the higgledy, piggledy, cobbled streets. Passing churches, monasteries and art galleries, as you trip through this mesmorizing place of dreams, you will feel time stand still.
Overlooking the arched, picturesque and famous Porta Fuga, where the brave Spoletini prevented Hanibal from entering the city, thus avoiding the possible destruction of Rome, you have it all, ancient authenticity combined with the style and glamour that only the Italian exudes. From the sitting/dining room, 2 of the 4 French Windows, at the opposite end, open onto a small garden that leads directly onto the terrace/seats 8, with pretty views. The 2nd triple bedroom has French Windows that opens onto a small patio that is open to the sky.
With easy + free parking or private paid parking, Casa Nobile is vast with decorated ceilings and French windows off every room, leading to balconies, a patio, the garden and the terrace. With an extremely large sitting/dining room (60 sq mts), 2 triple bedrooms + 1 double/bunk bedroom, 4 sets of French Windows that open directly onto the atmospheric long balcony.
Sitting on the balcony, within its curved spaces , you feel the weight of history bearing down, the history of the souls, who have occupied this same space for the many centuries that have been and gone.
You will hear the footsteps of the locals below, voices chatting, children shouting Mama and, if you listen very carefully, you might hear the distant clip clop of the horse, whose spirit lingers on, whinnying and puffing spittle, as his sinnewy, glistening body drags his heavy load uphill, through the famous arch of Porta Fuga, below the towering Torre Del'Olio, where the brave Spoletini, not only doused out the Perugini invaders with burning oil but held their ground against Hannibal, thus preventing the possible destruction of Rome. This history, within metres of your balcony, where the nobility of an aristocratic past used to sit, evokes the feeling that nothing can touch you because you are absolutely safe.
Whether you are religious or not, this place will infect you with its magic. Not a manufactured toy-town with perfectly manicured, mediaeval streets. No ! This is a "what you see is what you get" treat for the appetite. No need to amplify the natural beauty that overwhelms you at every twist and turn. Celebrities from Andy Warhole to Brigitte Bardot have sought solace in this wondrous place since time began. A closely guarded secret from the world at large, finally, with the advent of Italians from "outside", Spoleto slowly unfurled itself and now invites everyone to come and explore it, to become sanctified, to indulge of the flesh, to hallow its spirit, to just be here.

The Umbria region
The Umbria region
Umbria is famous for its mountainous terrain, which changes at every twist and turn, from cultivated landscape to wild and woolly crags, from undulating, lush green valleys to stark cliff faces with sheer drops into the depths below. Food and wine heaven because here is where you find world famous wines (at great rates), truffle and food from all over Italy, Umbria having attracted Italians from all over, Spoleto being a favourite place for Italians to migrate to.
You do not need a car in Spoleto. At Casa Nobile, you are just 10 mins walk from the train station, from where you can get to practically anywhere in Italy. For instance, it takes 5 hours to reach Venice and 3.30 hours to reach Pompeii and Naples. The area is packed with things to see and do, from museums, art galleries, churches and ancient monuments, including the Roman Forum, to shops, bars and restaurants, all embraced by the mediaeval walls of this tiny city, threaded with arched and cobbled lanes and crowned by the famous Rocca at the top, next to the gigantic Roman aqueduct that takes you directly into the Sacred Mountains.

"Location, location, location!"
Our group of 5 had a week in Casa Nobile in Spoleto. The large 3 bedroom/2 bathroom second floor apartment has balconies overlooking the main pedestrian thoroughfare that goes through the centre of th… More
We are so pleased that our lovely guests had a great time in Casa Nobile.
However, we are sad that that there was a cigarette smell somewhere. We do have a no-smoking policy. And, when the apartments are cleaned, all the windows and doors are thrown open and the apartments are given a thorough airing for at least several hours. I can only imagine that there was a smoker below in the street and the smoke was drifting upwards past the balcony, which extends for a goodly length. No-one else has reported the smell of cigarettes. So, I trust that this was a one-off and the offending street smoker moved on !!!
We are pleased that our guests noted how quiet it was in the apartment with the doors and windows shut. Both bedrooms that are above the street are triple glazed.
Thank you, again ! Norma
