About this location
The Umbria region
Spoleto is one the most un-touristy places you will find. Extremely popular with Italians because, not only is it beauitful, but, the Spoletini have remained faithful to their traditions. Here you will find live theatre, operas, concerts, ballets and plays, all year round. But, be prepared to hear only Italian spoken. Unlike, tourist traps, the indigenous Italian has never bothered to learn English. Nonetheless, foreigners are welcomed. Sign language still prevails. And, the language of food, wine and clothes is universal. Further, in Spoleto, as well as the surrounding villages and hill-top towns, sagras take place throughout the year, celebrating the harvesting of truffle, asparagus, olives, grapes, maize, tomatoes....... Halloween and various saints' days. Big spreads are provided, free of charge (or almost), as a kind of offering to the gods, a thanksgiving of good fortune, except that you will be the recipients and not the gods ! Indeed, any excuse will do for a celebration !
Spoleto is the Italians' favourite place in Umbria – some say in Italy. Now, Italy's best kept secret has been revealed. And, Spoleto is enjoying its new found fame. The locals are so friendly. Once here, you are bound in a kinship of love and worship of all that is most precious to the Italian….. sculpture, architecture, works of Art and, above all, food ! Not to mention wine, shopping and the most famous of all activities – the passeggiata ! The bus, at the end of the lane, goes to the top of Spoleto, the famous Rocca and Il Ponte. Very convenient if you fancy walking back home, down-hill, through the pretty, cobbled and arched streets of Spoleto, passing the myriad of shops, bars and restaurants along the way.

A bathroom can quickly develop a kind of mouldiness, if the windows are not kept open. It is a combination of the steam inside V the extreme heat outside V the very cold air conditioning in every room. Like the weekly rates, the furniture has not been changed for a few years. But, as you can see from all our other excellent reviews, this has never caused complaints since the interiors are all functional and family friendly.
Indeed, new ceramic floors were put in all 6f the apartments 2 years ago. Further, all 6 of the apartments are freshly painted at the beginning of each new season. In addition to these yearly refurbishments, to also replace the furniture throughout would have necessitated a rent increase in what to many has been and, maybe, to some, still is, a crisis year, money-wise.
So, in order to retain the weekly rates as low as 690 euros/week, maintain the beautiful grounds, the water fall, the large BBQ area with 2 big ovens, the infinity pool and the Jacuzzi, offer free and unlimited high speed WiFi, and, all just 0.7 miles from the historic centre of Spoleto, we decided to stay put with the functional furniture and defer such a major expense until people have a few more euros to spare !
However, we are constantly reassessing the situation and when we deem the furniture no longer fit for purpose, we will, indeed, replace it.
As for the claim that the owners hosted a group of friends, this is something that we know nothing about. None of the other guests there at the same time as Jim, our reviewer, drew our attention to any strangers being there, the family were away at the time that Jim was there, and, Jim did not contact us to investigate a situation that they found "a bit intrusive". Had he done so, we would have acted in the interests of our guests immediately and removed any unwanted persons from the premises. As it is, we do not know who Jim is referring to.
