Town Dubrovnik some 200 km down the coast, national park Plitivica lakes to the north 250 km. You should also try to take a ferry to one of our islands from Split port , or one day excursions
Split is also called "TOWN UNDER THE HILL MARJAN" and we are very proud of "MARJAN" because it is very rare to find town in which center is forest. All around MARJAN are virgin beaches.
Split is the largest city, as well as the most important cultural and economic center of Dalmatia. Split is surrounded by the hill Mosor on the north, the hill Kozjak on the northwest, and the hill Perun on the east. The old city core is found under the hill Marjan. The islands in the area of Split are Brac, Hvar, Solta, and Ciovo.
In the center of Split there is the famous sandy beach Bačvice, where people often play the local sport called "Picigin". Another sandy beach near the center of Split is Firula, great for families and small children.
There are numerous events and manifestations in Split, especially during the summer. Some of the most important are Split Summer Festival, St Duje festival and Marulić days – the festival of Croatian drama and theater.
