Rooftop Vista
About the home
The cobble street corner of rue des Martyrs and rue des Abbesses is right in the centre of one of the most vivacious parts of Paris. Rue des Martyrs and the neighbouring streets have housed many famous artists such as Toulouse-Lautrec, Renoir, Moreau and more. Today, it is still a busy area for art dealers and collectors.
This area has many different styles and moods. We feel that ours is that of the calmer, old style Montmartre. You could easily spend your whole vacation within a 5 minutes' walk in any direction from the apartment: the Basilique du Sacre Coeur, the Dali Museum, theatres, night clubs, a tremendous variety of fresh food stores and markets, bakeries, chocolateries, restaurants, brasseries and bistros. The closest metro station, Abbesses, is only a 2 minutes' walk away. It is located in the lovely Square des Abbesses- where 'Amelie' fell in love!
Location:
Line 12 of the metro brings you directly to Pigalle and the Moulin Rouge, Concorde and its fantastic gardens, St-Germain-des-Pres and its writers, Montparnasse and its artists. See us on a map.
Metro Abbesses is truly in the heart of old Montmartre. It is a place to explore with your feet- walking from one charming road to the next. If you aren't up to doing it on your own, there are organised tours that leave biweekly from the Abbesses station. You could also take the Montmartrobus to see the neighbourhood.
This is a real 'Parisian', vibrant street, but once you get back home to the cosy apartment you'll find how quiet and peaceful living on top floor is (with an elevator, of course) well insulated, if desired, by double-curtained, double-glass windows.
Since you are on the top floor of the building, you will not hear any of the overhead noise from people above you. You should have all of the tranquility you need inside this flat.
This apartment is designed for a fully, comfortable urban living: comfortable sitting area with entertainment equipment as described above in the amenities, dining area with a table for four.
A comfortable antique chair sits in the corner to provide a nice nook for either planning your day or relaxing with a good book. Although this is rarely needed in Paris, there is a very effective heater and air-conditioner unit in the salon.
Our modern kitchen is fully equipped for almost any gastronomic task, including an expresso maker which you can use to make a cup for breakfast. You can enjoy the rare treat of sipping your coffee while overlooking the rooftops of the city.
To make it even more irresistible, try some delicious pastry from the boulangerie down the street (15 seconds walk!).
The microwave doubles as an oven so feel free to pick up some delectable delights from one of the many 'traiteurs' in the area. A Traiteur makes prepared meals that you can take away to eat in the privacy of our flat in Paris.
The bedroom has a very large closet for your luggage, clothes and new purchases. You'll enjoy waking up in our queen sized bed with the sunshine streaming in to greet you.
One look out of the window when you away will make you think you are in a Parisian paradise with the beautiful view of Sacre Coeur.
We've selected mostly original pictures to decorate the wall and insisted on hand made Asian rugs. In addition, there are a few amusing finds picked at the famous Parisian flea markets.
There are large, sunny windows in all the rooms and the bathroom has a ceiling matte window, providing beautiful light with maximum privacy, and a controlled natural ventilation. The bathroom, which is off of the bedroom, has a toilet, sink and shower stall.
The rare panoramic view from this Montmartre nest spans uninterruptedly from Sacre Ceur in the north, the horizon in the east and, finally, the overwhelming southern view of Paris seen from your breakfast table. Above the rooftops of Montmartre you'll see the Notre Dame, the Odeon and much further.

Paris is the capital city of France. Situated on the River Seine, in northern France, at the heart of the Île-de-France region ("Région parisienne"). The City of Paris has an estimated population of 2 million within its limits. The Paris unité urbaine is an area of unbroken urban growth that extends well beyond the administrative city limits and has a population of 10 million.
An important settlement for more than 2000 years, Paris is today one of the world's leading cultural centres, and its influence in politics, education, entertainment, media, fashion, science and the arts all contribute to its status as one of the world's major global cities..
Paris is the most popular tourist destination in the world, with over 30 million foreign visitors per year. There are numerous iconic landmarks among its many attractions, along with world famous institutions and popular parks.
The Central Paris / 18th / XVIIIe - Montmartre area
Montmartre, famous area for artists, is actually a hill 130 metres high, in the north of Paris in the 18th arrondissement, a part of the Right Bank, primarily known for the white-domed Basilica of the Sacré Cœur on its summit and as a nightclub district. The other, older, church on the hill is Saint Pierre de Montmartre, which claims to be the location at which the Jesuit order of priests was founded. Many artists had studios or worked around the community of Montmartre such as Salvador Dalí, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso and Vincent van Gogh.
The Musée de Montmartre is in the house where the painter Maurice Utrillo lived and worked in a second-floor studio. The mansion in the garden at the back is the oldest hotel on Montmartre, and one of its first owners was Claude Roze, also known as Roze de Rosimond, who bought it in 1680. Roze was the actor, who replaced Molière, and like his predecessor, died on stage. The house was Pierre-Auguste Renoir's first Montmartre address and many other names moved through the premises.
Just off the top of the butte, Espace Dalí showcases surrealist artist Salvador Dalí's work. Nearby, day and night, tourists visit such sights as the artists in Place du Tertre and the cabaret du Lapin Agile. Many renowned artists are buried in the Cimetière de Montmartre and the Cimetière Saint-Vincent.
Montmartre is an officially designated historic district with limited development allowed in order to maintain its historic character.
A funicular railway, the Funiculaire de Montmartre, operated by RATP, ascends the hill from the south while the Montmartre Bus circles the hill.

My wife and I stayed here for a week in early October and the property more than met our expectations. The location is fabulous and there were very few tourists in the immediate vicinity.... more |

It's my second visit to "Rooftop Vista" and I'm happy to share my experience and recommend this charming apartment to others. It has so many merits I'm not sure where to begin… but probably the most significant one is the great location: From every window a beautiful view of Paris is to be seen accompanied by a refreshing breeze. Once out of the building one's surrounded with lively coffee shops, bars, restaurants, bolangeries and all kinds of little shops (I especially recommend the small tea-shop right next door, the sweet design store up the block and the vintage store down rue de Martirs). A brief walk will bring you to the top of the Montmartre with an amazing panoramic view of the city (Try and see it both during day time and at night!), and the very convenient Metro that will take you all around the city is but a two minute walk from the apartment. I especially enjoyed the combination of an energetic atmosphere and night-life right outside the door, with a placid, private and quite place once you enter the apartment. The apartment itself is very pretty, romantic and also clean and practical. I visited there once with a friend, and found it easy to share, using the sofa bed in the living-room. The second time I came there with my husband, and enjoyed it's romantic atmosphere over a glass of wine and a plate of great cheeses, all bought right downstairs, and eaten in front of the great view. Free international calls, well equipped kitchen, hot water, books, tourist-guide books, various CDs and spotless shower, toilet and towels all added up to create a place that is much more than just "an apartment". It was more of a home, an intimate and relaxing place to be and to rest during an intense week of experiencing Paris. |

Rooftop Vista was my home for 12 days in June/July this year. The photos are true to the apartment but don't show the ambience which surrounds you. The unbelievable views of Sacre Coeur from the 2 big French windows in the dining/living room and from the bedroom were ever changing from morning, afternoon, dusk and then midnight, when the Basilica is floodlit. The gorgeous view from the big French windows in the kitchen look out over the chimney pots all the way to downtown. It is a wonderful apartment in a lovely part of Montmartre. It is a very safe area, although I'm not out late at night, and I felt very comfortable walking around the quartier. Abbesses metro is just around the corner near the post office with 2 ATMs. Food shops at your door. And La Pignatta Italian restaurant and pizzeria (with takeaway) on the ground floor. The salads looked really good, but every night when I walked in, they automatically started making my pizza 4 saisons ... I am definitely planning on staying there again on my next trip to Paris. |
