Home description

This truly is a base from which to explore one of the most charming corners of Paris where you tread in the footsteps of the likes of Monet, Manet and Toulouse Lautrec.

The 55m2 first floor flat is elegantly decorated and furnished to sleep 5 people comfortably and overlooks a recently renovated central courtyard. There is parquet flooring throughout and it is well equipped with two bath/shower rooms each with it’s own wc, a kitchen including a dishwasher and a utility area with washing machine.

The sitting room features a period fireplace and overlooks the central courtyard, filling the room with natural light. It has been sympathetically decorated to give a real feel of Paris and Montmartre and includes paintings from the nearby Place du Tertre . The room has two new sofas, one being a sofa-bed suitable for one person, a TV/DVD unit with cable television and a stereo system. In addition, there is wireless internet access throughout the flat and a telephone.

The two bedrooms (the first is a twin and the second has a king size bed and is en suite) have again been decorated to provide a truly Parisian experience and the ample storage is provided by authentic French armoires.

The en suite bathroom contains a new shower and bath, as well as a beautiful French style basin. The second shower room boasts a large powerful shower and is decorated in a warm cream colour. The two bathrooms make the flat ideal for two sharing couples or a family.

The Paris/Ile de France region

Come and experience the romance of Paris by taking in the sights or visiting the art galleries of this beautiful historical city.

Top attractions include:

The Eiffel Tower - an iron tower built on the Champ de Mars beside the Seine River in Paris. The tower has become a global icon of France and is one of the most recognizable structures in the world.

The Sacre Coeur (2 minute walk from flat) - a Roman Catholic basilica and popular landmark. The basilica is located at the summit of the butte Montmartre.

The Moulin Rouge (2 minute walk from flat), which is best known as the spiritual birthplace of the modern form of the can-can dance. Today the Moulin Rouge is a tourist destination, offering musical dance entertainment for adult visitors from around the world. Much of the romance of turn-of-the-century France is still present in the club's decor.

Street artists of the Place du Tertre (2 minute walk from flat) The Place du Tertre is a square in Paris' XVIIIe arrondissement. Only a few streets away from Montmartre's Basilica of the Sacré Cœur and the Lapin Agile, it is the heart of the city's elevated Montmartre quarter.

With its many artists setting up their easels each day for the tourists, the Place du Tertre is a reminder of the time when Montmartre was the mecca of modern art. At the beginning of the 20th century, many penniless painters including Picasso and Utrillo were living there.

The Louvre - The palais du Louvre, on the Right Bank of the Seine is a former royal palace. This imposing building is home to one of the world's largest Art galleries/museums, the collection including the iconic Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo. It was also the focal point of Dan Brown's book, the da Vinci Code.

The Arc de Triomphe - The Arc de Triomphe is a monument in Paris, France that stands in the centre of the Place Charles de Gaulle, also known as the Place de l'Étoile. It is at the western end of the Champs-Élysées. The triumphal arch honours those who fought for France, particularly during the Napoleonic Wars. On the inside and the top of the arc there are all of the names of generals and wars fought. Underneath is the tomb of the unknown soldier from World War I.

Notre Dame Cathedral - Notre Dame de Paris is a Gothic cathedral on the eastern half of the Île de la Cité in Paris, France, with its main entrance to the west. It is the cathedral of Paris and the seat of the Archbishop of that city. Notre Dame de Paris is widely considered one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture.

The Orangerie - the art gallery in the Tuileries housing the breathtaking Monet 360 degree wall paintings.

The Musee D'Orsay - The Musée d'Orsay is a museum in on the left bank of the Seine, housed in the former railway station, the Gare d'Orsay. It holds mainly French art dating from 1848 to 1915, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, and photography, and is probably best known for its extensive collection of impressionist masterpieces by such painters such as Monet, Degas, Renoir, and Cezanne.

Central Paris / 18th / XVIIIe - Montmartre area

Montmartre is one of the most vibrant and exciting areas of Paris to visit where it would be easy to spend an entire week without risk of monotony. The variety that the area has to offer is incredible with the youthful energy provided by the quintessentially parisian bars and cafes as well as the historic feel given by the ever present reminders of Montmartre's bohemian past.

The most famous attraction in Montmartre is the Sacre Coeur basilica shown in the photograph which is situated at the highest point in Paris. It is less than a five minute walk from the flat and is not only a stunning piece of architecture, but also offers stunning panoramic views of the entire city from its steps.

No visit to Paris is complete without enjoying the delicious food that France is famous for, and the gourmet will not be disappointed by the location of the flat, which is one street away from the famous rue Lepic which offers a wide range of boulangeries, traiteurs, charcuteries and patisseries. To complement the food, you can enjoy the wine from one of the local wine shops, the best of which offers wine tasting at their bar with a selection of delicious canapes.

You are not short of restaurants either, and while we would encourage you to explore the endless range of restaurants around the flat, there are a few specific recommendations below.

Within 100 yards of the flat is La Bougnate, an inexpensive auvergnois restaurant that is full of character, offers delicious food and has boasted some famous clients down the years. Be prepared for something authentically french!

For those keen on fondus there is le Refuge des Fondus which is definitely a place you will never forget with their exemplary cheese and meat fondus.

The best lunch places are the Durer (also excellent for dinner) which serves particularly fantastic french onion soup and Sancerre, a cafe at the top of the road which offers one of the best croque monsieurs money can buy!

For the art afficionado the possibilites are diverse with L'espace Salvador Dali, a museum of Dali's work and the Place du Tertre where the street artists ply their trade. The place of Montmartre(where the pioneers of Impressionism used to meet) in the history of the arts, is exemplified by those interred in the cemetary, Edgar Degas, Alexandre Dumas, Emile Zola, Offenbach and Russian ballerina Vaslav Nijinsky with the ballet shoe grave to name a few.

There is also a range of antiques boutiques as well as the fantastic Marche Saint-Pierre, the 6 floor fabric bazaar from which the material for the curtains in the flat was bought. A final point of interest from an artistic perspective is that Montmartre is very well known as a place for budding photographers; in fact there are dedicated photographers tours that you can join in the quartier.

The Moulin Rouge, one of Paris' iconic pieces of history, is also a walk from the flat, many readers will remember the oscar winning film, which encapsulates the history and atmosphere of this tourist attraction perfectly.

The boring details are that the transport infrastructure is excellent, with all Metro lines a walking distance away from the flat, enabling you to visit all of the attractions of Paris within 15-30 minutes of leaving the front door. For some suggestions for other places to visit, see the above section on Paris.

Closest metros are Pigalle or Abbesses

Guestbook for 2 bedroom 2 bath new refurb

"Superb flat, great location - loved the local cafes and the rue Lepic just round the corner is a must for anyone visiting Paris that likes thier food! Very busy multiculrural fascinating part of town as well as very very close to transport links. Couldn't fault it!" Jonathan, London

"I go to Paris twice a year on holiday with my family and have never stayed in a flat with a better location or that is better set up for a small family. Myself and my husband stayed in the master double and the children slept in the twin room. One particularly good thing is that there are two shower rooms and two WCs as well as a bath for thos eht atprefer it. The whole flat has been recently renovated and the bathrooms in particular are exemplary.

The flat itself is on a beautiful building just down the hill from Abesses, you really feel as though you are truly in Paris when you walk up to the front facade. This feeling is reinforced when you walk into the flat, which has a few lovely features which give it its distinctive French character. This is typified by the paintings that are from local artists, as well as the period fireplaec and the beautiful genuine french armoires.

The flat is very well equipped with a TV and DVD for the kids in the evening as well as fast wireless broadband so we could keep up with work.

All in all, this was an excellent holiday and we will always book this flat every time we go to Paris, highly recommended." Virginie, Stafford

"Beautiful and very well appointed apartment in excellent location. Montmatre is 'boho' (bourgeois bohemian) with a very authentic feel, lots of great delis and restaurants." June Jones, Cardiff

"Lovely apartment with 2 great bathrooms, which is not easy to find in Paris, great location in very colorful neighborhood and only 2 minutes to metro Pigale, will certainly be back and will refer also." Linda Gagnon, Calgary, Canada
