Paris has plenty to offer outside the 5th and 6th districts. We can definitely vouch for the general Bastille area with its tons of cafés and restaurants.
Boulevard de la Bastille faces the "Port de l'Arsenal", the nautical entrance to the Canal St-Martin and all the waterways that connect it to Paris and the Seine. The Bassin de l'Arsenal (boat basin) /Port de Plaisance is a *marina*. It is in the heart of the city, really charming in a Parisian way, and near good public transportation links like Gare de Lyon (to go to the South of France, Italy and Switzerland), Gare d'Austerlitz (to go to Versailles) and Bastille.
So,come discover the Marais-Bastille area between Ile Saint-Louis and Place de la Bastille:
It's a wonderful place to walk or jog, have a café, picnic -- there's even a park for young children there. Another wonderful green space nearby is the "Coulée Verte" above the Viaduc des Arts that was featured in a recent film starring Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke. So we are not lacking in green space nearby. Finally the zoo is to be found across the River in the jardin des Plantes.
Visit the Bastille Opera House and the “Rue de Lappe” with its many ethnic restaurants and pubs. Enjoy a cruise on Canal Saint-Martin leaving from Place de la Bastille or the Batobus leaving from Jardin des Plantes across the river.
For those who come to Paris on business, they will be between two train stations Gare de Lyon and Gare d'Austerlitz, close to RER A which crosses the whole of Paris up to the area of La Defense (in 20 mn); they will not be far from the two major airports (direct buses to and from Gare de Lyon); the metro Station that services the apartment, Quai de la Râpée, is directly connected to Roissy Airport via Gare du Nord.
The apartment building is situated half a block from the Seine. The Quai de la Rapée Metro is just a few steps away, and there's a Vélib station right next to it. The Metro (Line 5) exactly one stop away from Line 1 (which takes you through the Marais, the Louvre, the Rue de Rivoli, the Champs-Elysées, Arc de Triomphe, etc.) and one stop away from Line 10 (which takes you to the 5th arrondissement, Odéon and St. Germain des Prés ... all the way to Boulogne). Plus Line 5 itself has its merits, one being that it takes you directly to the Gare du Nord (and Gare de l'Est), as well as to the Place d'Italie, which is a great centre for Chinese and Thai food.
A plus is that this building has a real garden out back, which is fairly rare in Paris.
Further details
Two covered parking spaces in the garage below the building are available, each for an additional 15 euros per day.
The Paris/Ile de France region

You can stroll along the Port de Plaisance de Paris or the Open Air Sculpture museum, get in no time into the Jardin des Plantes and the Latin Quarter. Our neighbour, the latest modern art museum and private foundation in Paris, la Maison Rouge, was inaugurated on the 5th of June 2004 at number 10 of the Boulevard de la Bastille. Within walking distance (10 minutes) are Ile saint-Louis, Ile de la Cité (with Notre-Dame), the Place des Vosges with French novelist Victor Hugo's house in which he wrote his novels, especially Les Misérables, and Musée Picasso. Within walking distance (15 minutes) there is also Marché d'Aligre, the typical and cheapest daily open-air food market of the capital.
Paris Ile-de-France : A cultural gold mine !
The Louvre Museum, Versailles Château, Orsay Museum, Saint-Denis Basilica and the Fontainebleau Château are all just a small part of what makes Paris Ile-de-France the most beautiful museum in the world. Between cultural visits and entertainment possibilities, there are ample opportunities to take advantage of your stay and discover the very best in festive entertainment and leisure activity : shows, Parisian reviews, operas, not to mention shopping, sports and more.
Paris Ile-de-France throws open the doors to its rich heritage: castles, museums, monuments, unusual sites, artists' homes, gardens and natural parks. Everything that Paris Ile-de-France has to offer abounds in spectacle and enchantment: evenings on terraces beneath sweet summer skies, reviews bathed in glitter and glitz, operas and the hottest discos around.
Paris is a major world capital and a crossroads for the latest trends. Shopping in the capital is not a question of luxury but of temptation, which will taunt you at every street corner you see ! Paris Ile-de-France is the only address you need when looking for fun or to unwind. There are ample opportunities to challenge your capabilities and even amaze yourself !
The Central Paris area
Paris is a majestic city, a city of culture, romance, gastronomy, design and fashion. It is also a city on the move, a city of daring...
With the opening of new museums, world-class sporting events, festive and popular urban happenings like “Nuit Blanche” and “Paris Plage”, Paris is a capital that never sleeps.
Whether you are a newcomer or already familiar with the Paris scene, there is a vast choice awaiting you: over 1,800 classified monuments, 170 museums, 145 theatres and 380 cinemas. Some of the cultural sites of the capital are absolute “musts” and among the most visited monuments in the world. Several of them have Unesco world heritage status.
Paris, however, is not just a historical city. Its riverbanks and neighbourhoods, some of which retain a village atmosphere, are an invitation to stroll and sightsee. By day or by night, from Belleville to the Marais, from the Butte aux Cailles to Montmartre, soak up the special ambience of these "quartiers" to grasp the true “spirit” of the city and let yourself be carried away by its energy and vitality.
Paris, the eternal, original, modern, creative City of Lights, is yours for the taking.
Whether you are already “in love” with our city or here for the first time, please make yourself at home.
Welcome to Paris!

Studio appartment was really great. It was the size of a usual hotel room in 3*-4* star hotel but vitually with all amenities you could need. Exactly as written in description on tripadvisor pages. The studio was very clean. The owner provided very accurate and thorough information regarding the studio, how to arrive and other important info. Furthermore, we were pleasently surprised to find additional info regarding nearby bakeries, supermarkets, restaurants etc. in the appartment. There was even a Paris tourist guide, so one less piece for your luggage! We did not actually meet the owner, but the housekeeper was always available for any assistance. Studio is really centrally located, within 10-15min walk from the Notre-Dame cathedral. Very close is metro station. It is a typical old Parisian building, and you will actually have a view of the Eiffel tower. We liked least the fact that during the summer there are many bakeries/ shops in vicinity that were actually closed for vacation, so we had to shop groceries near Gare de Lyon. Overall, great value for the money, best way to experience Paris! Would stay again! |

"Simply perfect"
We had a week stay in Paris recently, and used tripadvisor to look for an apartment. Our budget was around 1000NZD, and we looked at quite a few properties in that price range. Eventually we settled with this apartment as it had a real bed (as opposed to a murphy bed or sofa bed), it was very close to a metro station, and it overlooked the canal and Seine. In short, we were absolutely delighted with our choice. Communication with Catherine before our trip was simple and easy. The apartment is literally one minute walk from Quai de la Rapee station. This station is one stop away from Bastille station, and Bastille is served by a number of metro lines, making it easy to get around Paris. Unfortunately, Bastille station was closed for the metro line 5 for the duration of our stay. This meant we had to go further north to Republique most times to connect to other stations. However, this did not make a noticeable impact on our trip. We were glad to be so close to the metro station at the end of each long day out. On arrival we were met by Jeni the housekeeper, who was lovely and helpful. She showed us all the various bits of the room, and even how to operate the espresso machine. We also arranged for our departure inspection at that time, so everything was sorted. She went through the various documents and bits of information that Catherine had left us. This included an incredibly useful map of the region around the apartment, with labels for anything we might find necessary e.g. pharmacy, supermarket, various recommended restaurants. There were also important phone numbers and other bits of information. We felt extremely secure during our stay because there is a security code for the front door, a special key to get into the lobby, and then a room key for your own room. With the large windows open, you can hear the hustle and bustle down below. When the windows are shut the place becomes very quiet. We were not bothered by noise at any point during our stay. The view from the apartment is more magnificent than in the pictures. Being on the top floor is great, and you can easily see out to the Seinne and much further to the Eiffel Tower. It was wonderful watching boats cruise on the canal down below. Speaking of the top floor which is 6 floors up, thankfully there’s a cute little elevator that removes the need for going up stairs. The bed was very comfortable and everything we had hoped for, for a good night’s sleep. All the linen and towels supplied were of great quality. Everything was spotless when we arrived. The new shower is fantastic. It is a rain shower and quite roomy. Having a divider between the rest of the room and the toilet was good. We brought our own power splitter, and had that on the table, so we had no shortage of power outlets for charging our cameras/phones etc. The bookshelves that you can see in the picture were a great place to put our belongings on. The room is relatively small, but we didn’t spend much time in it except to mostly sleep, and we had adequate space for our luggage bags. The air conditioning which worked fabulously was a god-send as there was a small heat wave bringing temperatures above 30 degrees C during our stay. The wireless internet is easy to use (there’s a page with clear instructions on how to connect to it) and we found it very useful to check up on weather and email. We went with this apartment as well due to its cooking facilities. We bought some groceries at the nearby Monop, and then cooked breakfast for ourselves on some mornings, which was a saving. The pans and cutlery were all of high quality. We decided to eat out for all other meals. There were enough clothes hangers to hang our clothes upon. At the end of our stay, Catherine came to inspect the room, collect the keys, and return the bond. If we are in Paris again we would stay in this apartment in a heartbeat. It went a long way towards making our trip a fantastic experience. Wolgsky, NZ, Jul 16 2011

"Wholesome"
Catherine is a perfectionist. I had maps of the area I was renting with important landmarks like laundromat, metro stations, grocery, pharmacy etc marked out with recommendations for different kinds of foods. There was a printed sheet of paper with emergency numbers in Europe listed (like 911 for USa). There was also numbers for local cab company and all info they would ask for. I did not have to research anything. One of our best meals was at a place Catherine recommended. She is fluent in English and available and accomodating of all reasonable requests. We would not have had such a wholesome and stress free experience of Paris if it was not for all this extra information. Her housekeeper Jeni is the most pleasant and courteous lady I have ever met. If we went to Paris again, I will definitely stay at this place again. We had gorgeous views of the Eiffel tower and paris lights after dark as well as boats sailing down the Sienne as it is a waterfront property. We even watched the Paris marathon from our room as the runners were going down by the Sienne. If I had to critique anything, it is the amount of space. It is perfect for a couple and if you come to your room only to sleep like us. The shower is great. It is a rain shower. The amenities are all modern. The internet worked great. Anurag. Apr 15, 2011

Dear Catherine,
I just wanted to take a moment to thank you once again for making our stay in Paris so very wonderful! We were absolutely comfortable in your apartment and felt we were returning "home" at the end of every day. The amazing view of Le Tour Eiffel was more wonderful that we could have imagined and really pulled us to the window the first thing each morning with our coffee and last thing in the evening with our glass wine: wonderful bookends to each day in Paris.
With appreciation,

The apartment was clean, well-appointed and in a great location but tiny. However the size of the apartment didn't stop us having a wonderful time. Catherine went out of her way to welcome us as we went to the wrong address initially. The apartment is close to all amenities and has amazing views, waking up to see the Eiffel tower in the distance was truly incredible. We used the metro extensively and walked everywhere as well, so it's a quiet location but easily within walking distance of everything. I would love to stay there again and we can't thank Catherine enough.

"The place to be" in Paris!"
"Christmas 2009 In Paris"
"This apartment met all of our expectations.
The photos accurately depict the apartment's excellent standard of comfort and cleanliness and it is also well maintained. The apartment has beautiful views, is spacious and is very well located. It is a short stroll to the Bastille and then onto the Marais, areas which offer an endless supply of options for dining, shopping and entertainment in general.
I would freely recommend this apartment to friends and serious travelers and hope to stay there again in the not too distant future."Cyberlion Brisbane, December 2009

"Relaxing in Paris"
We really enjoyed our stay in this apartment. There is a fantastic view over Paris. You can see the Eiffeltower with it's discolights in the evening. In front of the apartment there is a boatstop(Jardin de plants). There are eight stops between Jardin de plants and the Eiffeltower. Apenkop, Netherlands, Oct 5, 2010

Amazing view and perfect location
We both were thrilled with our stay at the apartment. The view was spectacular (Seine, Seine Boat Basin, Pantheon, Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower), and we raced home every night to catch the hourly sparkling lights on the Eiffel Tower. Two Metro stations are within a five minute walk, as is the train to Versaille, but our favourite activity was riding the Velib rental bikes along the banks of the Seine--a five minute ride from the house. The apartment is clean, well-stocked and organized, and the beds are extremely comfortable. There are many cafes and restaurants in the neighborhood, and we especially enjoyed walking in the Marais and buying groceries at the local street market. The elevator is small, but it's part of the charm of the beautiful, old building. We would definitely consider renting this apartment again.Jane J Boston, MA, USA,June 2009

Great comfort - Eiffel tower view
The apartment is a perfect base for two with every comfort and the bonus of a lovely eiffel tower view. Nicely located on the port d/ arsenal you overlook the marina -but are in walking distance to bastille, le marais and the jardin des plantes. The owner lives downstairs in the same building and is very helpful. Internet access (wifi) also a big plus. Mgpour, New York, May 2009

Our stay in Paris (too short!)
We stayed at this lovely apartment for 5 nights. We chose this due to the view and a good location for the price. We'd never been to Paris before, so we weren't sure what to expect. Luckily, the apartment was just as described, or actually it was better.
*Location-once I got the lay of the land, and figured out how to use the Metro, it was easy easy to get around. Although there is a Metro station right across the street, we found that walking to the Bastille station was better since it had more lines. There are some cafes and shops around although it was more of a residential area. The view was beautiful, every night we watched the Eiffel tower light up. The apartment very clean, the bed very comfortable. They don't mention that they also provide toiletries, They just put in air conditioners which did come in handy one night. We enjoyed the apartment and Paris very much.Prudence NJ, May 2009

Review of Paris apartment
Occupant Cambridgeshire
Review Submitted: August 29, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We had an excellent week in this apartment. It is in a very good location, between the Bastille and the Seine, and within 200m of the Metro. A marina is just over the road and from the lounge you look across this to the lights on the Eiffel Tower at night. The apartment itself is comfortable, well-furnished and equipped. The lift struggles to hold more than two people at once, but this can be an adventure in itself - as are the stairs. Highly recommended and we would not hesitate to go there again.

Excellent apartment with wonderful views
We stayed in this Bastille apartment for 4 nights. There is an excellent TV so our 13 year old nephew was very happy. The views are wonderful. From the main windows you can see both the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame, plus all the boats in the quai below. The facilities are excellent and the bed comfortable. This is a very peaceful apartment but very close to lively areas such as the Bastille. It is in easy walking distance of Notre Dame and the Marais and on good transport links for everywhere else. We happily recommend this apartment.AR1 Sussex, August 2008

Highly recommended
We both really enjoyed the apartment. This came as a nice, convenient and homely surprise. The host also compiled lots of information on what to see, do and eat in Paris; these are very useful and much appreciated.Peter T Singapore, June 2008

Great views close to all attractions
Located at junction of Seine and Canal St Martin with views across to Notre Dame, Eifel Tower, Montparnasse Tower, Pantheon from the main room, and views from the bedrooms across the roof tops to Gare de Lyon. Situated on the top (6th) floor of an elegant apartment block which has a two person lift to all floors.
The property is comfortably furnished. We found everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. The apartment was very clean and tidy and provided with fresh flowers upon arrival. Catherine met us at the door and showed us around and explained how to operate the appliances and how the recycling system works. The owner and all of the other people in the block that we met were polite and friendly.
There are plenty restaurants within a few minutes walk. Recycling is taken seriously in Paris and there is good provision for separating glass, paper, plastics, tins, from waste - in addition there is a compost bin so there is little excuse for not joining in and doing your bit to help the planet.
The use of a broadband internet connection allowing us to stay in touch via e-mail and MSN was excellent.
Watching the Eifel Tower sparkle for a few minutes every hour is a memory we will keep with us for some time.
Out and about, we'd recommend the Musee de la Orangerie and the Pompidou Centre for a wide spectrum of art. The Jardin des Plantes just across the river for the cherry blossom and other flowers - plus the Menagerie for an eclectic mix of zoo animals of which the red pandas and the orang utans were our favourites. With the metro (Quai de la Rapee) at the end of the road you have access to all areas of Paris within a few minutes, but we enjoyed just walking along to the islands in the Seine and soaking up the Parisian atmosphere from one of the cafes or a park bench near the Notre Dame.
We look forward to returning to Paris in due course and we'd recommend your apartment as a super centre for your stay. Old Bear Milton Keynes, Bucks, UK April 2008

We are back in Northern California after a wonderful visit to Paris and Provence. I just wanted to thank you again for your hospitality during our stay in your lovely flat. It is a terrific location and we really enjoyed being able to stay in a Paris neighborhood. We loved being able to walk to so many wonderful places from the flat and we enjoyed watching the Eiffel Tower sparkle at night. I hope our paths cross again sometime. The two of us feel very lucky for spending a week in each of your properties. The Paris apartment is so comfortable and well located, with a wonderful view, absolutely full-equipped, every moment I felt almost at home, moreover we had a super-efficient Catherine living beside who was extremely kind and patient helping every time we needed, including attending international phone calls in the middle of the night. We all enjoyed our holiday in Paris tremendously. There were many reasons for the success of our holiday but one of them was surely the comfort, pleasure and convenience of your flat. The holiday in Paris was a wonderful time for us – it set a very high standard for future holidays that will be hard to beat. Once again thank you very much.Best wishes to you and your family, Peter and Mira(Sydney, November 2006)

I wanted to thank you for your wonderful apartment and the incredible service you offer. There is not one thing that we can think of that we needed there and could not find. We both feel that the highlight of our whole overseas trip was walking into the apartment and realising that it was even better than we had expected. For us, watching the Eiffel Tower sparkling was unforgettable. For all international travellers to Paris a view of the tower from your accommodation is the most valued view, but from your apartment it is only one of the many famous landmarks we could see.We will know very shortly the dates we will be in Paris in 2007 so I will contact you as soon as possible to make a booking. Once again thank you, Heather, Australia.(Spring 2006)
