Paris is also very well suited for walking. We are 5 minutes walk from the Eiffel Tower and 30 minutes from the Champs Elysées.

Central Paris / 15th / XVe area
Every Wednesday and Sunday, the area under the metro viaduct is transformed into a 500 metre long market where you can find an incredible variety of fresh foods. The Marché de Grenelle is the biggest and best of the Paris markets. It's the perfect place to pick up a Sunday lunch or just to wander around. You might even get lucky and find some stall holders who want to try out their english on you.
Within 2 minutes walk of the apartment there are several boulangeries where you can buy your warm baguettes and croissants for breakfast. Boulangeries are also excellent places for french fast food such as quiches, salads and sandwiches (and wonderful cakes).
There are also several supermarkets nearby and a number of good restaurants.
The rue Auguste Bartholdi, named after the sculptor who built the Statue of Liberty and gave her the face of his own mother, is situated in a relatively unknown but distinctively charming area. The statue took 9 years to build and, before it was finally shipped off to the United States in 1885, it was one of the most visited monuments in Paris.
In 1900 a fully sized Swiss Village (mountain included) was built for the Universal Exposition.
The area just around the corner is still called the Village Suisse and is well known for its dozens of antique shops. On the place Dupleix, two 18th century buildings are what remains of the Caserne Dupleix, a military annexe to the Ecole Militaire. The Caserne Dupleix replaced the previous Palais de Grenelle which was destroyed in a gunpowder explosion in 1794. The blast, so powerful that it could be felt all over Paris, resulted in over 100 dead and 1000 injured.
Paris has its very own Statue of Liberty on the Ile des Cygnes, an artificial island on the Seine, 10 minutes walk from the rue Auguste Bartholdi. This particular statue was a gift to France, from french citizens in the United States.
Of course we have all heard of the Eiffel Tower, celebrating the centenary of the French Revolution for the 1889 Universal Exposition. At the time the tower was a temporary structure called La Tour de 300 Metres. The structure became a communications tower during the First World War and was thus spared from demolition, the unfortunate fate of most structures built for the exposition. Less well known is that earlier in his career, Gustave Eiffel provided the interior framework for the Auguste Bartholdi’s Statue of Liberty.
How to get there
Located just near the Metro Dupleix 5 minutes from the Eiffel tower, this centrally located apartment is easy to get to. For those arriving by train from the UK, the Gare du Nord is around 50 minutes by bus or 35 minutes by metro. Bus 42 is direct with a stop at metro Dupleix. The metro is a little quicker but there is a change from line 4 to line 8 which will take you to La Motte-Picquet Metro station, three minutes walk to the apartment. A taxi will cost around 15 euros.
If arrriving by plane, from Charles de Gaulle Airport , you can take the RER B change at Cluny Sorbonne and take line 10 to Metro La Motte-Picquet. Or you can come by taxi for 50 euros.
For those driving, it is quite possible to park in the area and in August the parking free of charge. Driving directions will be provided if required.
