The Paris/Ile de France region
Paris is a wonderful city to visit at any time of year. In summer, you can sit under trees with a long cold drink to take a break or an evening on a café terrace , or go on an open boat on the river SEINE. Autumn weather is generally grey with intermittent sunny periods. Parisians are back from their own holidays and there is an air of energy and bustle. Winter can be severe although there is rarely any snow and when the sun lights up the sky. Paris is most attractive in December, the streets and shop windows are bright with Christmas illuminations. As for Paris in the spring, it is a legendary delight.
French people do lunch between 12:00 and 1:30 PM, and dinner between 7:30 and 10:00 PM. If you wish to avoid the crowd, lunch at 12:00 tops and dine out from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. Restaurants rarely serve between 2:00 and 6:00 PM.
Having a drink at the terrasse of a sidewalk cafe is a necessary experience in Paris (skip it between November and March though, except if weather permits). However, terasse drinks are often charged premium prices. Although they are saddled with a reputation, cafe waiters are not necessarily rude: they're just in a hurry. So don't take offense if they are impatient with you. Smile and show them what you want on the menu. They won't return the smile, but you will get your order quickly.
Prepare well for a stroll. Once you have settled down in your comfortable room and are getting ready to take your first stroll, take some time to dress appropriately. First, put on a really good pair of walking shoes to feel comfortable in the Parisian streets. Walking in Paris means stopping often to look at amazing details and buildings. This constant stop-and-go will wear you down if you aren't comfy in your shoes.
Central Paris / 16th / XVIe area
Visiting the Eiffel Tower means waiting often over 30 minutes to gain access to the ticket booth, then waiting some more for the elevator on the way up, and waiting some more for the elevator on the way down. So to your feet, a pair of good shoes will make a big difference!
Our charming apartment is situated in the heart of the lively Passy district, one of the very chic areas in Paris, the XVIth Parisian quarter. It is two steps away from OCDE headquarters, several ambassies and different administrations. You will no doubt be charmed by the very peculiar atmosphere of that place, but most of all by the shopping activity of Passy street. Getting to the LATOUR street, through a private lane, you will discover a flowery garden sheltered from the city rumors. Its absolute calm will surprise you: the song of the birds is the only diversion. This is countryside in Paris
Exploring neighbourhood of Area from Passy Allée des Cygnes : From half way accros the Bir Hakeim bridge, there is access down to the man-made islet in the Seine. A bronze replica of the statue of Liberty faces downstream, rising tall above weeping willows.. Musée du Vin - Caveau des Echansons 5 square Charles Dickens. Under the Empire they were converted into France's First beet refinery. The underground galleries now house a wine museum with waxwork figures and implements recalling the days when monk produced wine there.
