Via Butera is the ideal spot to start your sightseeing. Within walking distance are Happy Door, entrance from the sea side at Caron, one of the main axes of the city of Palermo.
Its historic centre, among the largest in Europe, which stretches between Palazzo dei Normanni, Piazza Marina and Piazza Castelnuovo. Within this perimeter, you can visit countless churches, historic buildings, museums, squares and markets.
After visiting the splendid Palatine Chapel and San Giovanni degli Eremiti, via Porta Nuova, then walk along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, the city artery, which leads to the Cathedral and the Quattro Canti, with annexed magisterial square and the Church of the Martorana. In these surroundings you will also find the historical markets of Ballarò and Vucciria 's, picturesque and at times surreal, these are places full of life during the day but also at night!
Alternating between the main streets and the picturesque lanes, you proceed towards Piazza Marina where you can visit the historical Villa Garibaldi with its towering ficus and Palazzo Steri and then, via Porta Felice you arrive at the Foro Italico, the wide promenade that offers an extensive lawn and numerous benches to relax before resuming the path.
Before turning to the other side of the city, it is certainly worth visiting Villa Giulia and the botanical gardens, Piazza Magione and the Pang.
En route to and from Piazza Castelnuovo (via Roma and via Maqueda), as well as enjoy the architectural wonders including the Politeama and Massimo theatres, you can even satisfy the desire for shopping, especially if you continue along viale della Libertà, Palermo Center boulevard.
Around you'll find gourmet sodas of all kinds, ranging from fine dining at the seafood restaurant, passing through typical and rustic trattoria, to pastries and ice cream kiosks and the bold taste of food "by road": they are all masterpieces to be savored without brakes!
Palermo is also famous for its mild winters, you might even be able to bathe in the sea at Christmas!
