Apartment | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 5
Casa Balmossière Chartroux has a very long history: now belonging to the ARENA BALMOSSIERE CHARTROUX family, it is located in building dating back to the XIV century; totally renovated at the beginnings of the XVIII century, it still shows the typical features of the sicilian rococò style. Once inhabited by the family of the painter Gaspare Serenario (1707-1759). After a long decline has been acquired and carefully renovated by the current owners few years ago. The apartment huge windows overlook the main street of the lively Mercato del Capo one of the most interesting spots in Palermo downtown, just behind the Opera House Teatro Massimo.
The House BALMOSSIERE is located on the first floor and its XVIII century atmosphere not only jealously preserves pieces of period furniture but also offers to its guests an antique Harp ERARD dating back to the 1847 and an even more interesting Pianoforte ERARD dating back to the 1861, still perfectly functioning after being restored together with other strange small period musical instruments.
Our guests will enjoy a huge entrance hall, bathroom with shower, kitchen, two bedrooms, a studio area with pc and tv, a living room, three balconies overlooking the colourful marketplace.
French blood in a sicilian heart
Signs of the palermitan family Arena date back to the XIV century and from the XVII century also in the area of Capo–Seralcadio. Among its members famous jurists and entrepreneurs.
Coming from Tarascon in Provence, the Balmossière Chartroux family around 1750 moved to Nice (at that time part of the Regno di Piemonte). In spite of their noble origin the Balmossière Chartroux supported the cause of the French Revolution. Two members of the family (named “Chartroux Père” and “Chartroux Fils” were elected among the members of the Nice Revolutionary Tribunal.

The Sicily region
Sicily, right in the heart of the Mediterranean sea, has a cultural heritage unsurpassed by any other holiday destination. It's array of historical rulers have provided the island with unique architecture, art and traditions. The coastline is dramatic and beautiful (like the people) and the towns are a bustling hubbub of activities.
In the centre of the island sits the majestic Mt Etna, a still active volcano. A trip to the top is a must.
Being in Italy, and having such a rich history, Sicily has a wonderful selection of food & drink. The various cultures and natural local produce combine to make dishes that can be found nowhere else in the world.
Streets and alleys of Palermo:
can't get enough of walking in Palermo. Staring at the varied architecture, listening to the clips of conversations (just the tone of them), smiling back to curious and friendly faces' and suddenly ' a flash of green wings and a scream of a parrot!
just dive into a real dealing and get ready for making a fool of yourself ' and don't get it so seriously if you put your fingers to the wrong places and get some strict looks from the market salesmen.
in Piazzetta Porta Reale (Via Lincoln): very friendly staff and 10+ Sicilian style 'snacks' like arancinos and pepitos etc.
