The South East England region
Wapping is a district in East London, England, in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It is situated between the north bank of the River Thames and the ancient thoroughfare simply called The Highway. Wapping's proximity to the river has given it a strong maritime character, which it retains through its riverside public houses and steps, such as the Prospect of Whitby and Wapping Stairs.
Many of the original buildings were demolished during the construction of the London Docks and Wapping was further seriously damaged during the Blitz. As the London Docklands declined after the Second World War, the area became run down, with the great warehouses left empty. The area's fortunes were transformed during the 1980s by the London Docklands Development Corporation when the warehouses started to be converted into luxury flats.

Wapping has a charming village like atmosphere despite being located right in the heart of London and the massive amount of new residential developments built over the past 30 years following the closure of the docks. The area has retained its character and is a quiet, safe and pleasant area to spend time in during your stay in London. It has convenient local tube, DLR and bus links as well as river buses from St Katharines and Tower Piers making just about anywhere in central London no more than 30 minutes away. Wapping boasts a wide range of local restaurants including Indian, Chinese, Italian and Turkish as well as historic riverside pubs with beer gardens offering spectacular panoramic views of the Thames. There are also local convenience stores and a Waitrose supermarket within a short walking distance. The City of London, Tower Bridge and the vibrant and spectacular St Katharines Docks are just a 10 miniute walk away using either the Thames river walk or a leisurely stroll down by the canal.

"Nice location but..."

"A home away from home in a really interesting, central part of London!"
From the moment we contacted the owner, Boyd, to the text message he sent on our departure day to wish us well on our journey home, we consistently received prompt, efficient and friendly service. It was great, for example, that Boyd suggested the best transport route from St Pancras, met us at Wapping overground station to walk us back to the house, and was there to personally explain everything we needed to know about the house and all that is available nearby. The property itself was roomy, comfortable and very well equipped for all our needs. On our first night I cooked a roast dinner with ease, and it was great to be able to catch up with our backlog of washing and even dry it on the airer in the garden (yes, there was summer sunshine the whole 11 days we stayed!). The beds were comfy, the shower hot and powerful, and the wi fi super speedy! We really, really felt as though we could make ourselves at home in this house and, as a result, looked forward to going back to it at the end of long days out and about in London. The location is just fantastic. Loved the docks and the historic feel of the area, as well as being so close to overground and tube stations and a bus stop (we used all 3 modes of transport, as well as catching a cab very late one night). Also very helpful to have a proper supermarket close by so that we could shop and cook - a real money saver. Will tell friends and family about this little gem in central London. Thank you, Boyd - will certainly be in touch if we're ever in London again!

"Great place to stay, comfortable, central and quiet location."
I stayed at 11 Presidents Drive with my son in the february half term, it was good for me as i have a young child and it meant i could cook meals for us without having to spend lots of money eating out in restaurants, the pirate ships round the corner went down a treat with my son, we enjoyed feeding the swans and the pleasant canal walk in to St Katherines Dock. Being able to park for free in central London helped the budget. The property was clean and looked like new. and not being stuck in a small hotel room every night was a bonus. We visited many of the sights in London and Boyd the landlord arranged cheap tickets to the theatre and a bus and boat tour for us prior to our arrival. Would recommend to anyone and would book again for our next trip to the city. Thank you very much for an enjoyable holiday.
