Hillyfields137 is situated in Brockley in Zone 2. Part of Brockley's charm is that it isn't right in the centre of London.. so it is greener, friendlier and has a less frantic pace than the centre, so Hillyfields137 is a great place to come home to and relax after a long day walking around London. But Brockley isn't boring! The beautiful Victorian housing attracts families who appreciate the heritage that the area offers and artists and musicians abound. It's not unusual to walk down the street and hear the sounds of a piano or saxaphone floating down to you.

The area also attracts independent local businesses rather than identikit chain stores. We have lots of lovely independent coffee bars and restaurants, several really good pubs (one of which, the Brockley Jack, has its very own tiny theatre seating just 40 people; watching a production there is an experience you are unlikely to get anywhere else, and it's within walking distance!

We have several pubs, 3 or 4 small supermarkets, (open 7 days a week; 8-10pm); coffee bars, a fantastic cupcake shop called Patacakes, where homemade (not masquerading as homemade, they really are fresh baked and frosted every day) cupcakes are quickly snapped up and eaten with a lovely coffee or a cup of tea.

3 mins walk from Hillyfields137, we have the Brockley Mess, a cool, quirky bistro & art gallery where you can get a breakfast with really good quality ingredients for about £6 or baguettes with delicous fillings. Also on our doorstep is the fantastic Brockleys Rock fish and chip shop, which serves lovely crispy battered fish and golden chip (and has gluten free batter available) ; plus calamari and many other delights.

Lastly at Hillyfields Park, an oasis of green, you can take a morning jog or just stand and admire the view over London or relax with a coffee at Pistachio coffee bar at the top of the hill. We also have our very own mini stonehenge at Hillyfields Park, plus tennis courts, sunday cricket, Thai Chi and all sorts.

Brockley is an interesting part of London and we love it!

There are no parking restrictions or parking charges in the road outside and there are plenty of parking spaces.

The South East England region

Central London in 10 mins: We are in London travel zone 2. A short walk (or 2 stops on the bus) to Brockley station, then 2 stops (10 mins), to London Bridge for Tower Bridge; and onward to the London Eye, Tower of London, River Thames, Buckingham Palace, Theatres, West End shopping and all London's best attractions. Don't forget that Brockley ALSO is also a tube station (Orange Line, London Overground) which means that we have excellent connnections, whether rail or tube. You can use Oyster cards at Brockley.

We also have FREE parking with no parking restrictions or fees, so if you hire a car or are driving from Dover, it's perfect.

We have LOTS of space for up to 6 people; you are not squashed into a space that's too small like so many places which claim to have space for 6; we really DO have sufficient space;

You can ALL sit around a big table together, serve all your food at the table, and chat about the great time you are having in London. No fussing about swapping seating space or making up sofa beds. You don't have to do this at Hillyfields - we have sufficient bed space for 6 people, so you can use the sofas for sitting on!

After a busy day enjoying everything that London has to offer you'll want somewhere to come home to, put your feet up and relax with a book, magazine or TV and a DVD or a round of games with the kids on the Playstation. Enjoy some family time together; playing the London Board game, Scrabble, Jenga, jigsaw puzzles or just watch some DVDs or have a browse through the books and magazines; there's plenty for all the family.

There are 6 dining chairs at the large dining table plus sofas /easy chairs for 6 people; bedrooms are good sizes, with plenty of space for extra fold up beds. (see our testimonials!)

*** Please note that this apartment is unsuitable for groups with childen under the age of 5 due to interior stairs (and exterior stairs to the garden) which we are unable to gate off with stairgates and therefore we feel these could be a safety risk for small children. Also probably unsuitable for people with mobility problems due to stairs, although accommodation is all on one level. *****

Brockley has been described as one of London's 'hidden gems' with its tree lined streets, beautiful Victorian houses, interesting cosmopolitan arty community, bars, bistros and independent shops and several gorgeous parks; you'd never believe it could be this peaceful and green this near to the centre of London. We've are also blessed with amazingly good transport links to all parts of London, by train, tube or bus.

locally there are 3 or so excellent medium sized supermarkets (8 min walk, we provide a wheeled shopping basket for your use), great delis, pubs etc. There are 2 fantastic cafes 3 mins walk away, one (Top Chef) providing a full english breakfast 7 days per week for around £4 plus a fantastic licenced coffee bar (Brockley Mess) 2 mins walk away, which serves excellent food, cooked breakfasts and lunches - delights like eggs benedict and their warm vegetable pesto baguettes are mouth watering. There are several other excellent cafes within a 10 min walk - Arloe & Moe, near Crofton Park plus Pat-a-cakes, where Patacake Stacie makes fantastic fresh cakes every day; cupcakes, sponges, flapjacks, you name it, she makes it. She also has fresh bread daily.. We have two delis by Brockley station, Degustation and the Broca - both do fresh baked artisan bread, olives, fresh ground coffee and other yummy delicacies.

There's an excellent Fish and Chip shop, Brockley Rock, 2 mins walk round the corner - also serves Thai fishcakes, mackeral baps, calamari as well as lovely crispy fresh fried fish. The Gantry is a very popular bar brasserie/wine bar, it has a lovely garden; also The Orchard, both 7 mins walk away near Brockey station. There's also plenty of takeaway and delivery services - the local indian, the Babur consistently wins awards. Babur has a takeway or delivery service and also a fantastic eat in restaurant.

Brockley Market, is every Saturday morning about 10-2pm, about 8 mins walk away in the same road, selling fresh produce, organic veg, speciality food stalls, organic meats etc. Also once a month, Hillyfield's Farmers Market is similar, 2 mins walk away at Hillyfields Open Space. Brockley Market has many stalls which also trade at Borough Market in London.

Bars and pubs include the famous Brockley Jack Pub and Theatre, dating back to 1898 which serves excellent food and beer plus near Brockley station, we have Brown's bar, serving barista made coffee. Brockley now has its own Brewery, the Brockley Brewery, and its real ale brews are sold by local pubs including the Ladywell Tavern, about 10 mins walk away. Ladywell village also has a good selection of bakeries, bars and delis.

Brockley has a really interesting cosmopolitan London vibe due to its large artistic community. It's not unusual to pass by one of the beautiful large Victorian houses and hear the sound of a saxaphone or violin playing...or someone tinkling the ivories at the piano.

Hillyfields is our former home so we know and love the area and are so happy to be able to share our home town with our guests so that they can enjoy a proper London experience, living among real Londoners in a beautiful place just 10 mins from the centre of London.

Brockley has stunning Victorian properties in leafy streets and Hillyfields open space is 150 metres away.

Hillyfields Park, 2 mins walk from the house, is an interesting park - it has views all over London; a brilliant kids playground, public exercise equipment , tracks to run/skate on, tennis courts for hire. Popular with families, walkers and joggers. There's a great cafe to relax in too, Pistachios in the Park.

And lets not forget the famous Hillyfields Standing Stones - our very own Stonehenge!

Hillyfields is a great place to watch November or New Year fireworks - on those nights, you'll find families wrapped up warm, with hot drinks and food, gazing over the views and enjoying the show.

We are now in our 5th year of providing high quality vacation accommodation and have over 100 published testimonials plus visitors books full of glowing praise.

The Hillyfields apartment has a big comfortable cream leather sofas, 32" flat screen TV with freeview TV and a Playstation 2 plus games for the kids. We also provide books and magazines, DVDs and CDs and a huge selection of London tourist guides, maps and leaflets for you to browse through or take with you as you explore London.

When the weather is good, your pretty, enclosed private garden is a delightful place to unwind and chat about your London plans for the morning with a glass of wine and bbq. If you are lucky you might see some squirrels but there's always plenty of birds chirruping around.

There is a large (separate) fully equipped family size kitchen; with dishwasher and everything you need, huge pasta pots and decent cooking knives.

The apartment is ideal for 4 people, but we can accommodate a maximum of 6.

Central London/Zone 2

Brockley is just 2.5 miles (4 km) from the centres of Greenwich and Blackheath, a pleasant walk of about 45 mins to an hour depending on your pace to get to Greenwich Market, the Cutty Sark or the Maritime Museum. For a lovely day out, take a bus into Blackheath and admire the aerobatic stunts of the kites flying over the Heath and enjoy a pub lunch overlooking the lake; then walk up into Greenwich Park and visit the deer enclosure and say hello to the ducks. Children can enjoy one of the best playgrounds in the area in Greenwich Park. See the sights at Greenwich and then if you still have the time and energy, take the Thames Clipper riverboat into London or to the O2 Venue at Greenwich peninsular.

The Greenwich Maritime Museum, Royal Observatory, Planetarium, Queen's House and Park are must sees. You can even stand on the Meridian line, longitude zero, with one foot in the east and one in the West. There's also a bustling craft market, theatre and a general buzzy vibe and of course the O2 - the revamped Millennium Dome which now hosts concerts etc. A fantastic venue easily accessed by bus or the DLR from the apartment .

Blackheath, a few minutes away, has fantastic restaurants and bars. We are also ideally located if you'd like to venture further afield to the jewels of the southeast coast or countryside - Leeds Castle, Hastings, Whiststable, Wisley etc (see our welcome book for suggestions).

There is a proper old fashioned street market daily at Lewisham, about 5 mins drive away, selling fresh fruit and vegetables and ethnic produce. We have provided plenty of books, board games, magazines DVD and PLAYSTATION 2 for days when you just want to relax a bit and have a day at home. There is of course, TV/Sat TV/DVD and CD player. We have playstation games, and DVDs but please do bring favourites with you.

Just 100 metres away is Hilly Fields, a beautiful tree lined park with formal gardens, children's playpark and panaromic views over London and the surrounding area. Hilly Fields hosts a farmers' market every few months. . We have viewed the New Year and November fireworks from here on many occasions; it offers a stunning view for miles around.

The famous Brockley Jack Pub Theatre and Rivoli Ballroom are 6 mins walk away. We are also within 45 mins of the Kent countryside and an hour and half from the coast, Hastings, Rye, Whitstable. Tons to do. Lots of ideas in our welcome book. It may be possible to accommodate short stays from 2 days duration at short notice (ie for theatre trips or short visits). Please email and enquire.

Brockley itself is a cosmopolitan area. There are several coffee shops with squishy sofas, a nice wine bar, several pubs and various restaurants or takeaways within a few minutes walk of the apartment. As a conservation area, many properties have retained their original victorian beauty, stained glass, ornate exterior plasterwork etc. Do take some time to take a wander around the leafy avenues admiring them.

"Excellent Base for Exploring London"

"Excellent Holiday Apartment for Family!"

It is an excellent flat for those who wants a taste of British family life. The living room is nicely decorated with Christmas decoration (and a big Christmas tree!). It's very comfy and warm. A range of board games for family and video games for kids.

Bedding are clean and tidy. Bathroom is clean and bright with powerful shower and good supply of hot water. Kitchen is clean and spacious and with everything we need. Dish washing tablets are provided. Plenty of cutlery, plates and glasses for preparing family meals.

I must express our appreciation to the detail-minded arrangements of Cindy, the owner. We find almost everything we need for a trip, e.g. from hot water bag, thread and needles to lightweight shopping trolley in the flat. Very competitive price for a lovely apartment like this!!

The location is nice. A quite and safe neighborhood and also accessible to Central London. 10 minutes walk to Brockley Overground station with overground to Jubilee line or train to London Bridge. There're buses to Central London as well. Some may consider SE London as less convenient for sightseeing but I will say it's nice since a lot of transport choices available.

We all love this flat and really recommend this!

Thank you very much for taking the time to write us such a lovely review, it is much appreciated. We are very happy that you all enjoyed your stay; we do try and go 'the extra mile' for our lovely guests. We stay there ourselves sometimes, as it's really convenient if we are going to the theatre in London (or at the local Brockley Jack theatre, which puts on some great shows). This means that we can experience the house from a guest's point of view... and it prompts us to notice if there is anything extra that we can provide to make our guests' experience even better.

Wow, thanks very much for such a lovely review! We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay at Hillyfields; it's a real pleasure to host such appreciative guests. I'm glad you got a chance to explore Brockley a little, as well as London itself. We've had such great weather these past few months and that's when the beautiful Hillyfields open space is at its very best; hope you liked the lovely views over London from there too, it's a great vantage point; you can even see the London Eye from there.

"Adorable, real English neighborhood."

Hillyfields is a lovely flat in an adorable neighborhood. My husband and I stayed at Hillyfields with our two teenage daughters. We had plenty of room to hang out and it was a nice place to come back … More

thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. I loved your photo of Brockley Cemetary ... it's a very atmospheric place isn't it.. with some very gothic memorials. I think you summed up what we like about Brockley ourselves.. it's the fact that is ISN'T in the centre that makes it a special place, it gives the area its unique character and it has a leafy greenness that you don't find in the centre..whilst only being 10 mins journey to the centre of London and all the tourist attractions!

Of course we are very lucky having such a beautiful open space at Hillyfields Park just 2 minutes walk away, a stroll in a lovely green oen space with the morning sun glinting over the trees is good for the soul and sets you up for the day!. We are glad you were happy with the accommodation too. It was really nice to meet you all too. Thank you.
