The South East England / Greater London region
London is the largest metropolitan area in the European Union. An important settlement for two millennia, London's history goes back to its founding by the Romans. Since its beginnings, London has been part of movements and phenomena, such as the English Renaissance, the Industrial Revolution, and the Gothic revival in architecture. The city's core, the ancient City of London, still retains its limited mediaeval boundaries; but since at least the nineteenth century, the name "London" has also referred to the whole metropolis that has developed around it.
London contains four World Heritage Sites: the Tower of London; the historic settlement of Greenwich; the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew; and the site comprising the Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey and St. Margaret's Church.
London was named by New York Magazine as the capital of the world for the 21st century. The world's longest subway system runs for 244 miles below the streets of London. The London Underground - or tube, as it's known by the locals - carries about 976 million people each year. The city's first underground railroad opened in 1863, and today it operates 500 peak trains and 275 stations.
Central London/Zone 1 / Pimlico area
Pimlico is a small area of central London in the City of Westminster. Like Belgravia, to which it was built as a southern extension, Pimlico is known for its grand garden squares and impressive Regency architecture.
The large majority of the buildings in Pimlico are residential and were designed by the builder Thomas Cubitt, a statue of whom can be seen in the area. Most of the district is included in a conservation area. Pimlico's notable residents have included Sir Winston Churchill, Laura Ashley, Swami Vivekananda, Laurence Olivier, Jomo Kenyatta, Aubrey Beardsley, Joseph Conrad, Major Walter Clopton Wingfield, Michael Howard and Richard Dadd.
As soon as you head to the tube station you will be able to access the rest of this great city with with possible the world's widest variety of activity for all ages. Whether you are interested in the arts, cuisine, sport, history, theatre or simply strolling along the Thames - London has it all!
How to get there
This apartment is extremely well connected, being only 350 metres from the Victoria line underground station of Pimlico, taking you pretty much everywhere across the city!
Coming from Heathrow, the London underground is easily accessible from all terminals. Likewise, coming from Gatwick, the flat is also very accessible being only one tube stop away from Victoria Station which is served by the highly efficient Gatwick Express.
For drivers, the flat is situated within the London Congestion Charging Zone during the week, so parking arrangements will have to be arranged prior to your stay.
