Home description
Houseboat Mallards is a unique and very rare opportunity to experience life on water in the heart of London. Enjoy the hurly burly of the world's greatest city with all its attractions, and then return to the peace of your wooden houseboat, hidden away with its beautiful garden and swans tapping at the window in search of a bite to eat.
Located in Little Venice it is in Zone 1, offering easy access to all the world class shops, theatres, parks, markets and museums anyone could ever wish for. The canal is one of London's true hidden gems - walk one way and it will take you to Notting Hill, whilst the other way passes the Zoo, Primrose Hill, Regents Park and winds on to Camden and beyond. In addition to the wildlife there is a cheerful ever changing boating life going on outside your window.
Outside the mooring gate is Maida Vale with a grand array of white stucco terraces and villas set in tree lined avenues for you to saunter through, and a nearby parade of shops and cafes for all your needs.

The second smaller bedroom has a set of bunk beds (length: 5'3'' or 160cm) and some ancillary storage space and boasts a large sash window looking out over the canal.
There is a sofa in the living room that easily pulls out in comfortable double bed if required. If you fancy a deep relaxing soak, then sink into the bath and watch the water life outside through the cleverly located slit window, the boat has mains pressure throughout so the shower is nice and strong. The basin is a converted clerks ledger desk salvaged off a ship. Similarly the door to the toilet is from nautical origins and the loo is plumbed to the mains sewer.
The open plan galley has all you would expect in your own home and the living room is spacious and comfortable with windows on all sides giving fantastic views of the canal and all its life on one side and the peaceful walled garden on the other. For a more intimate connection to the water slide back the patio sized glass doors and feed the swans, geese, coots, mallards and occasional cormorant that inhabit the waters outside. Many of the larger birds can be fed straight from your hand. The boat is soundly insulated throughout and has modern gas central heating and hob, and, all floors are solid wood There is a cast iron wood-burning stove in the living room which will be operational in the winter. There is wi-fi and satellite TV, a DVD player with a choice of dvds and a good selection of books with which to wile away the hours on the sofa, in between watching the boats go by. All windows have blinds or curtains so you can be as private as you choose. All external openings have safety devices to prevent small fingers opening them if not desired.
Further details outdoors: The wooden clad Mallards is the first on a beautiful private mooring shared with 8 other boats. It is hidden from street view by a lovely old wall and access is through a secure gate. Once through, you find an unexpected hidden oasis of tranquillity and greenery. The space between the wall and the canal comprises a private garden with plants, trees and a table and chairs. Some of the garden is enclosed by a fence rendering it suitable for those with children. There is a barbecue. The garden is screened from public view on one side by the boat and on the other side by the wall. There is a communal pathway that runs past the boat giving others access to their boats further along the mooring. Although there is a fair coming and going of boat traffic on the canal this is never noisy and the frequently changing view is fascinating to watch.

Guestbook for Houseboat Mallards
The boat is only just come up for a short term of rental, so we cannot hundreds of guest book quotes yet. Here is what we have so far:
Mallards was everything and more that we had expected - there is a unique sense of secluded privacy while at same time a sense of being very much in the bustling "London". Attractions are accessible with decent tube travel but there is also enough to keep (at least small) children occupied on the houseboat itself, with canal life, outside patio area and the internet. We had an ideal holiday - country cottage elements in exciting London! Henrikka, Finland
Wonderful stay, Just wonderful. Shane, Ireland
We have had a fantastic time in your houseboat. It was really an adventure for our children and ourselves. We would definitely do it again Rajiv, South Africa
It has been a lovely stay - very comfortable and peaceful. Easy reach of London every day but also easy walks along the canal (walked to Camden Lock). We will miss the family of ducklings and swans who visited regularly and i will miss going to sleep watching water reflections on the ceiling! Sue & Jack, Worcestershire
The summerhouse in London, i could stay for weeks Harri, Ely
