Description: Kensington, a district in the West of London has its commerce centered on Kensington High Street, and is home to the incredibly famous and elegant shops, bars and beautiful little restaurants.

This area is very densely populated, yet it has a great number of parks, tree-lined avenues and low-lying buildings that reduce any feelings of a crowded or hectic lifestyle. The gardens at High Street Kensington and Holland Park are among the most popular for both visitors and locals with their extensive green open areas and duck ponds. The park at High Street Kensington is also home to a huge play ground that was built in memory of the Princess Diana of Wales and is overlooked by a bronze statue of Peter Pan, Kensington Palace and the Serpentine Gallery.

In the area there are a whole number of museums to visit including the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Natural History Museum, as well as the beautiful Royal Albert Hall and its various opera and musical entertainment.

A particular curious site in Kensington is the Roof Gardens located at the top of the Derry and Toms building in Kensington High Street.

Not far away is the area of Earls Court, famous for its Exhibition Centre that was built in 1937 and boasts a magnificent Art Deco façade. The area, like many in London was once a small rural village that over time has been swallowed up by the city, particularly after 1879 when the District Line of the underground was constructed and has since been linked it to the centre of the city.
