The South East England / Greater London region
South East England has a generally temperate climate between 0-30 degrees C, although the ot weather tends to last only a few weeks so many apartments will not have invested in the air conditioning considered so important by people from hotter climates. The English like some hot weather, as the song says 'Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun'. However, this apartment does have a stand-alone air conditioning unit just in case (we ask visitors to use it with discretion). In terms of areas of interest in the South East of England, you will need to do your own research, however, if you are planning on exploring outside London to the south, London Bridge is a good mainline station from which to start.
Central London/Zone 1 / Southwark area
London Bridge is an historical area of London. London Bridge was the original bridge across the Thames and Borough High Street is among the oldest streets, being a route to Canterbury for pilgrims and the location of many inns for those travellers, the only remaining example being The George Inn on Borough High Street. This area of London was familiar to Dickens and Shakespeare. As London changes and areas become 'gentrified', London Bridge and Southwark in general has increased its population and the number of modern apartments. Compared to other South Bank areas, London Bridge benefits from the influence of its past as a stopping point for food imports, as now we have the hugely popular Borough Food Market and a few new local supermarkets which have arrived due to the more recent increase of the new residential population. With this there is also a very good selection of restaurants, though at this apartment, one of the best things to do is cross the road to one of the local takeaways and get fresh pizza from the oven, some really good Indian food or a Chinese or Lebanese takeaway.
Within walking distance are the twin towered Tower Bridge, the Tower of London, the Tate Modern, and just the South Bank itself which is great to walk along at night in the company of the many other tourists and Londoners exercising along the traffic free area which stretches right up to Westminster and the South Bank Arts Centre.
How to get there
Full directions are included in your confirmation.
Gatwick is a convenient airport as it has a direct train to London Bridge. Get the express train, ticket desk is just after Customs, but also a the station. Walk within the airport a few minutes to get to station.
From Heathrow, if travelling light, get the underground and change to Jubilee Line at Green Park to London Bridge. Alernatively, either get taxi all the way or get Heathrow Express to Paddington and taxi from there. Taxi all the way may be slightly cheaper for >3 people.
From London City airport, get a taxi or Docklands Light Railway to Bank station and then south 1-2 stops on Northern Line.
From Stansted, get train to Liverpool Street (40 minutes) and tube south to London Bridge/Borough or or taxi to apartment. Full directions with confirmation.
