7190-Walk to Oxford St & British Museum - Sleeps 4
Apartment | 1 bedrooms | sleeps 4
This apartment is in a fantastic location near Russell Square in the very centre of the City! You can walk to the British Museum, Oxford Street, Soho, Covent Garden and many other central attractions.
On the second floor of a period building, this is a chic home for a city stay (please note that there is no lift). The main living space has a comfy sofa, two leather armchairs and a stylish and quirky bookcase in one corner. The white walls and sash window makes this a fresh and bright space, and there are lots of interesting pieces of artwork on the walls. There is also a dark wood table and chairs for dining beside the window. An air mattress can be supplied in this room to accommodate 2 further guests.
The separate kitchen is modern with grey and green fitted cupboards, grey worktops and a selection of amenities including a fridge/freezer, a hob, oven and a dishwasher. The floor is tiled and there are also two stools for an informal breakfast by the sash window.
The master bedroom is sumptuous with a super king size bed, wooden floors, chests of drawers, a large window and lots of paintings. Off this room you'll find the impressive en suite bathroom with warm brown tiling, modern fittings, including a glass shower unit, a sink, a loo and a heated towel rail.
This apartment is in a brilliant location, right in the heart of the City in Russell Square. The Square, just a minute's walk away, is a lovely open space – ideal for a picnic in warm weather. Just the other side of this is the ever-popular British Museum (a 5 minute walk) which is home to a huge collection of art and artefacts about human culture from all over the world. There are many lovely restaurants, bars and cafes in the nearby area to explore, and it's less than a 15 minute stroll to Tottenham Court Road for shopping too – this road runs West and turns into Oxford Street.
If you walk South from the apartment and cross over Tottenham Court Road you'll find Covent Garden, with its old market square, cobbled streets and boutique shops. There are lots of designer labels, great restaurants, bars and daring street performers. It will only take you 25 minutes to reach the Thames on foot (or you could hop on the tube), and the views from Waterloo Bridge are some of the best of the London skyline. Head over the Bridge and there are lots more eateries and bars to enjoy on the Southbank as well as many theatres.
The property is less than a minute from Russell Square tube station which joins the Piccadilly line. From here you can at Covent Garden in two stops and Leicester Square for the West End in 3 stops (or, it's only 10 - 15 mins by foot). You can reach Knightsbridge in 11 minutes from this station too, for the famous department stores Harrods and Harvey Nichols as well as lots of other luxury brands.
You can also get a direct train to South Kensington for the museums – Natural History, Victoria & Albert and the Science Museum. For upmarket Chelsea head to Sloane Square from Russell Square – a 22 minute journey. Russell Square is also a handy line for guests arriving from Heathrow - a direct train, no changes and less than a minute to walk with your cases when you exit the Underground (journey time about an hour, depending on Terminal)!
Guests should note that, given the apartment's location in central London, there is some buzz from pedestrians below. It does not bother the owners of the apartment and, with a tv or radio on, is not usually noticeable. Importantly, the bedroom is situated at the back of the apartment and is very quiet.

The South East England region
London Bridge is not just an iron structure but a vibrant, historical centre lying at the heart of the city. It has a growing shopping district which includes Hay's Galleria, Butlers Wharf and St. Katharine Docks. Stretching from Tower Bridge to London Bridge on both sides of the Thames, the region boasts a large collection of museums, galleries, restaurants, theatres and architectural delights.
The London Bridge Experience and Tombs as well as the London Dungeons give a theatrical yet educational insight into London's sordid past and how the city has evolved to what it is today. Tower Bridge Exhibition and the Tower of London, home to the crown jewels, provide a unique close up to royal life and the traditions of England over the years.
Well known for trading, the Pool of London incorporates both Bermondsey Antiques Market and the famous Borough Market, London's most renowned food market and a source of exceptional British and international produce. Take the whole family and wind your way around the stalls of fabulous food and drink… There are countless pubs and restaurants in the area too which create a buzzing atmosphere.
Steeped in history, London Bridge is a great location for families, groups or couples. Whether you're looking for an action packed day out, a romantic stroll along the river or simply dinner and drinks in one of the many restaurants – London Bridge has more than enough to keep everyone occupied and entertained.
Central London/Zone 1
This flat is in a fantastic location overlooking the famous Borough Market. This has stall after stall of quality produce and is a great showcase of British culture. (Open Thursdays 11am - 5pm, Fridays 12 - 6pm, Saturdays 8am - 5pm.)
'Elliot's' is a lovely restaurant serving good selections of tapas and contemporary style dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
'Brindisa' is a great Spanish Tapas restaurant and bar with tables outside as well (very close to the tube station). Brindisa's Ham Carving School in the Borough Market was mentioned by Gwyneth Paltrow as one of her favourite places to eat in London!
'Roast' is another restaurant on Stoney Street near the market which has been tipped as 'the best breakfast in London' by 'The Good Food Guide' and 'The Times'. It also does lunch and dinner and has a great bar.
