New Barn is a large and exceedingly comfortable property in the lovely Cambridgeshire village of Great Chishill, offering a great mix of comfort, modernity and convenience. Built in a barn-style with exposed beams and large open fireplace, New Barn sleeps 8 and was recently updated. The property is set up as a family holiday home, and is thus not suitable for large groups of only adults.
Enjoy the best of the Cambridge/countryside with easy access to London for day trips or longer!
New Barn is great in every season: long summer walks, spring time in the daffodils of Cambridge or winter by the fire.
The house has 4 bedrooms (1 king ensuite; 1 king; 1 double futon bed and 1 single; 1 double futon bed), two sitting rooms, dining room, a cooks kitchen with breakfast table, garden with dining and lounge areas and various utility rooms. The house is pet friendly.
New Barn is a former family home in the heart of Great Chishill. Because of the quiet, small village setting it is not appropriate for hen/stag parties, groups seeking a party place, or large groups of adults. We can not accept groups of 7 or 8 adults only. Also the property shares a drive with two other houses, and we work hard to respect our neighbours' privacy, trying to maintain the quiet country atmosphere. Our neighbours have lovely dogs, which sometimes roam free in front of the houses, ie it's a great village atmosphere!
MINIMUM STAY IS ONE WEEK, WITH MAX OF 8 GUESTS. WE CAN NOT ACCEPT LARGE GROUPS OF ADULTS.

The Cambridgeshire region
New Barn is located in Great Chishill, Cambridgeshire, about a 20 minute drive from the centre of Cambridge and a 40 minute train ride to King's Cross in central London. Great Chishill is an ancient village, dating back to at least the 11th century, with a lovely mix of cottages and modern houses.
The village benefits from a wonderful pub (The Pheasant) and has two churches. The village is the highest point in Cambridgeshire, with terrific views of the surrounding countryside. Each of the surrounding villages has great pubs, including the King William in Heydon and the Red Cow in Chrishall.
Central London is easily accessible by train from Royston (fastest train 37 minutes to Kings Cross) or Audley End (about 50 minutes to Liverpool Street). Each station is about a 10 minute drive.
Local Attractions include:
- Cambridge with all of its attractions and shopping is about a 20 minute drive.
- The ancient market town of Saffron Walden is about 10 minutes away.
- Europe's premier air museum is at Duxford, also about 10 minutes away.
- The gorgeous country mansions of Audley End and Wimpole Hall are short drives away.
The Great Chishill area is filled with walking paths to other villages, pubs and restaurants. There are a number of horse stables in the area as well. The next village of Barley has a local shop for small needs like milk, bread, papers, etc. The main supermarket shopping is in Royston or Saffron Walden, each about 10 minutes away.

"Beautiful and homely."
We felt wonderfully welcomed from arriving. The barn is set up as a family home rather than a holiday let which is a lovely touch. The only problem we had was from a neighbour who told us to 'shush' when we were chatting as we walked past her house. Other than that we had a great time. The barn is beautiful, location great and garden is nice a big We would definitely return

"Perfect location for a weekend away with friends"
We enjoyed our 3 day stay so much we didnt want to leave. From the moment we arrived everything was perfect. The pictures DO NOT do thisplace justice. A lot of time and consideration has been put into the whole feeling of the home.Definietly somewhere you want to move into. Beautiful stylish and atmospheric house......the perfect place to unwind and relax with great company in such a picturesque spot.........a pub within spitting distance put the cherry on top! Lovely house, very clean and well maintained. Would definitely revisit. New Barn was like a home from home. We loved the artwork and personality and attention to detail. Lovely house in a lovely village. Some of the comments me and my friends have for our stay at New Barn. I promise you will not be disappointed if you book to stay here. We managed to get to Audley House which was 20 mins drive away. Well worth a visit.

"Perfect place for a big family gathering"
Booked this for a long weekend to celebrate my mum's 70th. Although all my family are based in the UK, I live in Sydney and was doing the organising and then flying in the day before. First off, Andrew was terrific in the booking process. Always rapid and full detailed answers to any questions and concerns, went out of his way to make the process as easy as possible and put my mind at ease that the place was suited to us. Couldn't have a smoother booking process. The photos on the website just don't do the place justice. Had the wow factor when I first arrived. Its very much (or seems to be) a family home that's had years of attention and is now let out for short stay. So it has endless personal touches (hundreds and hundreds or LPs, CDs DVDs, a quirky and unique collection of art from all corners of the world, hundreds of books on travel, cooking, etc etc, a huge collections of toys and games for all ages, a kitchen and utility room equipped with everything you could ever imagine you might need for a family get together). It was top class holiday accommodation but in a real family home environment. Perfect for a family with age ranges from 6 months up to 70. The weather wasn't great but the house is very big, spacious and has several different areas allowing people to entertain themselves in different ways when staying in. Rooms were very well equipped, beds very comfortable, bathrooms very clean. All in all a great experience. The location is rural, the scenery very impressive....miles and miles of rural fields, an old windmill, impressive churches and thatched cottages and village pubs. But its easy driving distance to Cambridge, the Duxford air museum, Audley End House.....etc etc....so plenty options to get out and about if you don't just want to sit and enjoy all the house has to offer. Highly recommend.

"A nice property in a small village within a convenient distance of Cambridge"
Large bedrooms and living spaces. Nice views of the Cambridgeshire countryside from the garden. Fifteen minutes drive from the outskirts of Cambridge and half an hour from the city centre. The village has a decent pub only two minutes walk from the property.

"Comfort in a Small English Village"
Need to get away? Need a place to stay with space and a view? This home is roomy and is comfortable. We brought our teens out to the countryside, visiting Cambridge (quick drive) came back and had dinner at an Amazing Pub (The Pheasant) literally just around the corner.
