You could not choose a more beautiful or stately residence for your special occasion in Bath – whether you have come to Bath for a leisurely spa break or a once in a lifetime celebration, The Duchy will make your visit to Bath a wonderful and unique experience.

The Duchy is a handsome Georgian town house with an amazing history. For the last 100 years it was the Offices of the Duchy of Cornwall in Bath, where Prince Charles stayed on his many visits to this magical little city. The present owners purchased the town house from the Duchy just a few years ago and carefully restored it to its present elegant state.

This historic town house is located just off Great Pulteney Street, one of the most famous streets of Bath, and is only a short stroll from the Roman Baths, the Bath Abbey, and all the many excellent restaurants and cafés that Bath is known for.

The Duchy offers both flexibility and splendour for whatever occasion you may be planning for your visit to Bath, for it boasts both a magnificent Drawing Room with its lovely “Withdrawing Room”, and a formal dining room and garden, providing a fabulous amount of space for entertaining.

The stunning and perfectly equipped Kitchen is on the lower ground floor and leads into the Formal Dining Room, which in turn opens onto a real Georgian Garden, with water-lillie padded pools and lovely shrubs and flowering plants surrounding a perfect outdoor dining area.

Spread over 5 gracious floors, this splendid house has 7 spacious and beautifully decorated bedrooms and has been arranged to sleep up to 16 persons comfortably. There are two full bathrooms, a delightful shower room and one pretty cloak room.

All the rooms have glorious windows with delightful views and are exquisitely decorated in keeping with the grandeur and period of the house. The Georgian Garden is a particularly fine feature and offers a welcome respite on those fine Bath afternoons after a day filled with museums and shopping.

Everything you could possibly require will be in the house, from TV's in the kitchen and drawing room, DVD and WIFI, to lovely linens and towels. Speciality teas and coffees, as well as milk and cookies and other special treats are waiting for you upon your arrival.

The Duchy is a fabulous and unique residence in the very centre of Bath with the Thermae Bath Spa as well as the Roman Baths just a short stroll away.

We have a parking permit for the central zone as well as a garage for your use during your stay.

The Somerset region

Bath is in a wonderfully central position in the Southwest, laying at the foot of the Cotswolds and at the gate to the Mendips. There are fascinating prehistoric and heritage sites fanning out in all directions - such as Stonehnge, Avebury, Glastonbury and even Wales - most in less than an hours drive.

Central Bath

Bath is the only place in England with real hot springs and since the dawn of time it has been the healing centre for England. The Romans did not discover the springs, but they made good use of them. They arrived in the area around 45 A.D., after sweeping across Europe, and were delighted to find the healing mineral hot springs and the gorgeous location for them to start a settlement. And settle they did! This location had everything to offer, from the natural hot mineral springs, to the verdant wooded hills, giving shelter, game, and necessary resources such as lead and coal. In addition, the settlement had its own Clairvoyant or Seer, so that the new city, called Aquae Sulis, became a spiritual centre as well.

This was a big city, like Rome, with stone walls, stone buildings with decorative porticos and mosaic floors, and with its mild climate, green and pleasant hills, became a major retirement centre for generals and senators. Its Roman heyday lasted for 400 years! The Romans left when their empire collapsed and the rest is history.

Today, Bath is a small, but cosmopolitan and lovely city. In the time of King George, the city fathers built many innovative buildings in a style that has come to be known as the Georgian Style. Bath is the birthplace of this once modern architecture. Now, with its architectural integrity and the golden hue of its stone, it is one of the jewels of Britain's heritage.

Set within the rolling hills of the most amazing West County landscape, Bath has become the perfect base from which to explore our English history. There are many nearby historical sites, all within 60 minutes of Bath: Stonehenge, the enormous stone circle at Avebury, the beautiful cathedral at Wells, the mysteries of Glastonbury, the National Trust village of Lacock, the perfect Cotswold village of Castle Combe, the Cheddar Gorge or Longleat.

"This is definitely NOT 5 Star Accommodation"

I booked the townhouse from their website trusting the property would be as pictured and as described I was traveling with a large group of friends and family from USA. We booked and paid for "Lu… More

The Duchy has been awarded VisitBritain's coveted 5 Star accreditation every year since it first became a luxury self-catering townhouse and has won an additional Gold Award from their assessment team for it's superior qualities this year.

We attract the most discerning clientele from around the world and this is the only negative review we have received.

We pride ourselves on our quality controls and and have a number of checking systems in place to make sure standards are maintained however if we make a mistake or haven't done our job properly we will always jump to put things right.

In the case of this reviewer our cleaners had used a new cleaning product on the kitchen floor which did leave it tacky however we offered to re-clean this immediately it was discovered.

We will always do our best to make our guests comfortable and we supplied the extra linens because this is what she asked for.

As regards her other points these do not really make sense: the main sofa in the TV area was brought brand new only 2 months ago; the TV is a classic Bang & Olufsen; and the kitchen table is antique pine.

"Impressive and spacious luxury townhouse yet homely and welcoming for a perfect family celebration."

Envious of my son's wonderful "find" in Bath in November 2012, for a gathering of his friends, I jumped at the opportunity to arrange a celebratory weekend at the same location for my mother's special birthday. It was easy to make the booking with super quick response from the owner, who also efficiently followed up requests for further information. My husband and I had use of the house from Friday until Monday, with my parents, while the 4 grandchildren and partners, all twenty-somethings, arrived and departed according to their own commitments. The Duchy was easy to find using satnav and the owner's instructions, situated in a prominent and prestigious part of Bath, a short stroll along Great Pultney St to the centre. Parking had been organised and the personal welcome was warm and friendly, with some basic supplies awaiting our arrival.
The Duchy is a beautiful house over 5 floors, so lots of stairs, (a bit of a problem for my father, who was not well) with 7 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, 1 shower room and an extra loo all for shared use. It was very comfortable and cosy, once it had reached full temperature, and good to come home to on a very cold and damp weekend. On the first night we enjoyed a family supper at the Duchy, with the well equipped kitchen making things easy.
There is much to see and do in and around Bath, and the group found plenty to suit them just exploring the lively streets and taking it all in. We had failed to pre-book a visit to the new thermal spa, and ended up queuing to get in on the Sunday.
The weekend was a great success, in no small part due to our stunning home from home.
