The Algarve region

The Algarve has long been a favoured destination for holidays. It is full of ancient history and heritage. Still standing today are buildings and walls dating back to the Roman times. Many museums and guided tours immerse you in the culture of this proud place offering an in-depth insight into the evolution of this beautiful region.

The Algarve has a fantastic all-year round climate and can boast more sunshine hours than California!. You can often see temperatures hit the mid 30's, thanks to the sea breezes it’s always a pleasant heat.

With over 100 miles of dramatic cliff faces and extensive golden beaches, the Algarve offers a dramatic coastline, and beautiful clear seas to swim, sail, surf in or simply watch the boats sailing by. There is something for everyone, whether you're after a relaxing day, water sports or simply viewing the many tourist attractions.

All types of holiday activities can be enjoyed including water sports, horse riding, fishing, deep –sea fishing, go-karting and hill walking. For those who enjoy sightseeing there are many places of interest including museums in Faro-maritime museum, boats and seafaring displays, while children will love the science museum with its interactive displays, rock pool and flight simulator.

Central Albufeira

Albufeira is located in the central Algarve region of Portugal, just a short transfer from Faro Airport. It attracts huge numbers of tourists every year, who come for the fabulous climate, the great beaches, the numerous bars and restaurants, the many world-class golf courses, and the many other attractions within a short drive.

Albufeira "Old Town" is the heart of the city, and it's picturesque narrow streets offer numerous places to eat, drink and shop. If you are wanting even more lively nightlife, the famous "Strip" offers yet more options form eating and drinking. Albufeira has a modern marina and is famous for its apartments painted in dazzling bright colours. Albufeira is a perfect destination for families, couples and singles of all ages.

Albufeira was originally known as "Baltum" by the Romans. When the North African moors occupied the region from the 8th century they renamed it "Al-Buhera", which translates as "castle of the sea". Albufeira has the remains of a castle dating from Roman times, but most of the castle along with the town, was destroyed in the 1755 earthquake. The most visible pointer to the castle remains is the Torre do Relógio (clock tower), which was built on one of the old castle towers, and is normally lit up on festive occasions.

The main square in Albufeira "Old Town" is surrounded by cafés, restaurants and bars and is a perfect place to relax, take a cooling drink, or just as a meeting place. The streets leading off the square are a shoppers delight with clothes shops, leather goods, gift shops, street stalls and of course, all the practical shops for daily necessities.

There are also many more restaurants and bars in between the shops so there is never a shortage of places to eat and drink! It is worth mentioning that although English is very widely spoken and menus will normally be in 3 or 4 different languages, if you have any particular likes or dislikes or have special dietary requirements then you may find our food and drink information helpful.

"Amazing Place"

Amazing set of apartments, really high standard, gorgeous sea views from selected apartments - we had apartment 15 which was just stunning being able to sit in the hammock and watch the sun set over Albufeira Old Town each night. Maria manages many of the apartments here and I'm aware that some if not most of them have similar views.

Location of the Barracuda is also ideal, literally a 5 min walk to the "strip" or the new town, but far enough away to be completely tranquil - sat on the balcony looking out to sea you could only ever hear the sound of the waves and the occasional seagull - sheer bliss.

Its a roughly 20 min walk to the amazing Old Town if you take the beach route (the Barracuda has a direct path to the beach via the pool area - 2 mins walk if that).

If you find the beach walk hard going (it can be in the heat) there's a road route which may take a little longer, however there's a taxi rank which you'll pass at the top of the road from the Barracuda up to the main road which is ideal - 4 Euros and you'll be there within 5 mins.

Old town has an abundance of superb restaurants and bars, and whereas the strip may cater for the more lively with its many clubs/bars, there are also a handful of very good restaurants at the bottom of the strip - which is closest to the Barracuda.

One recommendation I would have to make is that if you'd like a more "refined" dinner for perhaps a special occasion, make sure you book in at Dom Carlos Restaurant in the old town - quite simply one of the best dining experiences I've ever had, it may be considered expensive by some, but for a 5 course meal (set menu only) of gourmet quality @49 Euros pp I'd say it was easily money well spent.

All in all an absolutely unforgettable holiday was had, so many gorgeous beaches nearby, all within walking distance of this superb set of apartments.

Final point is to say that the level of service provided by Maria is second to none, in an age where poor customer service is rife, Maria and her team made the whole experience that bit more enjoyable and hassle free.

From her constant communication and tips, including advice on which apartments were best to book, to facilitating the airport transfers with Dave, who was extremely friendly and offered endless advice on places to go/eat/see on the journey there ( he was also there waiting for us at the airport despite a 2 hour delay on the outward flight) and Kevin who met us at the apartment and showed us the ropes, and was extremely accessible throughout the week if we had any questions or issues.

Thanks very much to all of you, for me, in terms of location and standard, as well as such a high level of service provided - the Quinta De Barracuda is the only place I'd consider staying if in Albufeira. Book it! You will not be disappointed!

Cheers again guys

"A must stay for everyone looking for perfect location."

To sum up Quinta de Barracuda it was home from home, great access for everything from the beach to the main strip. The appartment itself was fully equipped with everything you could possibly need for self catering. A very safe location for families with young children as you could only gain entry in and out with special keys provided on your arrival. There were plenty of good eating houses food was excellent.
Very warm during the day but night time was very chilly so bring a light cardi with you if you intend eating out.

"A view and apartment to die for"

From the moment we first contacted the owners to leaving everything about these apartments was exactly as described on line and on the phone.. We received detailed instructions on getting there, were met at the electric gates by the apartment rep/cleaner who showed us around the apartment and explained where things were and how to use. A bottle of wine was there for us to enjoy watching the sunset later that night and every night, the apartment had all the facilities for self catering, frige/freezer, washer, dryer, cooker, etc and enough cutlery for at least 8 people also a british view television including some sky programmes. From our window we could see over the bay to old town Albufeira and 400 yards down a hill was a very private beach with many facilities, bars, beach retaurants, including 3 lifeguards. A bit of a struggle to get back up the hill but plenty of places to stop for a breather! With a car old town was 10 mins+ away, the new town area was even less were we could shop for all our needs, there were many restaurants 10 mins walk away whilst not 4 plus star were serving varied menus for everyones needs. we sat every night watching the sunset and again when we returned from eating out, an unbeleiveable sight. Below the balcony was a swimming pool and childrens pool with plenty of beds for everyone, whilst we did'nt use the pool we did go down and enjoy the beds around the pool. There was a private electric gate which gave us extra feeling of safety when returning to the apartment late at night with its own driveway. Ours was a1 bedroom apartment but there were larger ons and we would recommend them to anyone wanting a relaxing holiday whilst not far from a busy town.

I cannot thank Maria enough for allowing us this is absolutely gorgeous and the view is fab....really quite breath taking...the pool area is welcoming and there are always sunbeds.... people are so friendly too from our taxi driver to amanda that showed us around too all the restraunt and shop staff around albufeira....the beaches are great and the walk to old town across the beach was most enjoyable....great food at many places like frogs, the cottage, and la bamba across the strip....chilli pepper is not too bad great on first two nights we went but not so great the last, hot spot and calypto up the road is good and flavours on the front at old town was our favourite...I so cant wait to visit portugal again....hopefully we can afford to stay in one of marias apartments she has to offer again as they are well worth the price....thanknyou for bottle of mateus and card left, a very nice touch
all the very best Maria
