The villa is located on the outskirts of Calasparra, a delightful traditional Spanish town situated in rural Murcia and famous for its rice and stunning scenery. Activities in the area include white water rafting, horse-riding, paintballing, mountain climbing, cycling, fishing, shooting, caving and go-karting. Golf courses and sandy beaches are about an hours drive away. The villa has a large private pool (8m x 10m) which is regularly cleaned and maintained. The Costa Calida/Murcia region
Murcia is located on the Mediterranean Sea and forms a small sea of its own, known as the Mar Menor. Beaches include, San Javier, Santiago de la Ribera, Los Alcazares, and La Manga. Murcia receives the most sunshine per year in Spain and has the typical Mediterranean semi-arid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. There are between 120-150 days per year with clear skies and 2,800 hours of sun. When eating out try ordering the 'Menu del Dia' (menu of the day) for a cheap way of experiencing a variety of Spanish foods. The principal ingredients of local Murcian dishes are the fresh produce of the Huerta (market garden - the fields of Murcia) and rice, fish and seafood from the nearby Mar Menor and the Mediterranean Sea.
Cehegin / Calasparra area
Calasparra is a traditional town situated 45kms north-west of Murcia and close to the historic towns of Cehegin and Caravaca de la Cruz. It is aptly known as the "paradise of the region" due to the stunning landscapes, lush green fields and variety of colours in the surrounding countryside. Calasparra rice can be found all over Spain and due to the plentiful water supplies, many fruits and vegetables are grown locally and sold at the local markets (Calasparra market is held each Friday). Running through Calasparra is the Rio Segura, a favourite with locals for fishing and swimming as well as white water rafting. The first week in September is fiesta week (one of the many fiestas held in the region). At this time many of the Spanish cultural activities take place including bull running, bull fighting, music, feasting and fireworks. One of the most amazing sights is the "Sanctuary de la Virgin de la Esperanza" - a church built into the side of a mountain by the river banks. Those who visit can also enjoy the many facilities on offer including children's play area, restaurant, gift shop, beautiful gardens and walkways and the BBQ's that are lined up on the river bank edges so all can bring their food and enjoy being part of the community. In the town is a 24 hour medical centre, banks, shops offering English newspapers, a vet, dentist, optician and everything else you might require. The nearby town of Cehegin is a medieval town with narrow streets crowned by the Ermita Purisima Concepcion, a 16th century church. From here you can view the town and out towards the valley of the river Argos. The other side of town however is bustling with lively tapas bars, shops and restaurants. Caravaca de la Cruz, another beautiful medieval town close by, has been declared by the Vatican as one of the world's Holy Cities and has a number of museums you might like to visit.

A 'meet and greet' service is available on the day of arrival. Keys are provided on payment of a 50 euro deposit returnable when leaving. A welcome pack of basic provisions can be offered on request. Changeover days - flexible. The owner requests a booking deposit of 20% with the balance to be paid 8 weeks prior to arrival when booking in advance. Late bookings can be made using bank transfer of full payment or cheque where time is allowed for clearance of funds. Paypal may also be used.
Conditions
The owner requests that for safety reasons and the comfort of other users, smokers use the terrace and outside areas only. Children should be supervised by the pool.
