About this location

The Puglia region

The Salento, a true wonder of the Italian peninsula, narrow and long reclining between the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea, is characterized by coast that are highly suggestive and charming, which feature a variety of situations so different as to constitute a constant surprise.

The sea is a spell of intense light with its thousand shades from cobalt blue to turquoise crystal clear waters of a unique transparency.

You can change route every day (a good road network allows you to make long distance in a short time choosing routes and detours that lead into the sea and vice versa or village from the Ionian Sea to the Adriatic) as there are numerous and extensive beaches with white sand ideal for families with children (Torre dell'Orso in Otranto, Porto Cesareo, Gallipoli, Ugento etc..) and many other places with spectacular cliffs overlooking the sea full of fish, for the more experienced swimmers and divers fans interrupted by coves accessible only by sea, bays, tunnels, and caves (Castro, Santa Cesarea, Miggiano Porto, Porto Badisco, Porto Selvaggio, St. Catherine, Torre San Giovanni, Santa Maria di Leuca, etc..).

On the coast, you can meet old watchtowers to defend the Turks and inlets refuge of the fishing boats.

The fish is freshly caught, something suggestive: the mullet of Porto Cesareo, lobsters of Leuca, squid, mullet, bream, octopus and the fish market in Gallipoli with its "auctions" scenarios choreographic intent to untangle fishing nets after a night at sea.

The taste and the smell of freshly caught sea urchins or custom tasted with lemon and eaten with bread typical, it is definitely a must see for tourists to Castro, Porto Badisco and other seaside resorts.

Ceglie Messapica

It has 21,730 inhabitants and is one of the largest in the province of Brindisi. It is one of the oldest cities of Apulia and was founded around the fifteenth century BC, and its ancient churches, the castle and the food delicious, foreigners are very attracted to.

Ceglie was one of the cities of Messapica, whose main center is made up of Oria, which since 343 BC to 338 BC opposed fierce resistance to the influence of Taranto, the city founded by the Spartans who aspired to conquer all of Magna Grecia and consolidate its hegemonic role of the southern Adriatic Ionian Sea. Taranto finally prevailed over the area of Puglia after 303 BC with a treaty that prohibited the Roman ships to go to the east of the Cape Lacinio. Civilization messapica are numerous archaeological remains: defense system (specchie remains of forts messapici. Fact Kailia (the name messapic Ceglie) had four city walls with the external belts (paretoni) high fortifications megalithic blocks (specchie high as over 20 meters and a diameter of up to 60 meters), the wall of the inner walls had a perimeter of 5 km and containing a population of less than 40,000 inhabitants. [8]. Several small necropolis [9] with inscriptions, coins, vases messapici type Gnatia and various exhibits kept in small part in the local archaeological museum in Ceglie and museums of Taranto, Brindisi, Lecce and Egnazia but for the most part dispersed in private and public collections. [10] on the walls and walls called paretoni, in the past is theorized their Messapic to which were added later theories of origin refers to a Byzantine limes, it is now established that these systems of territorial demarcation related to the Middle Ages. [11] Recent archaeological findings date back to 2008, during the renovation of the castle owned by the city, under the atrium of the fortification.
