The Sicily region

Eternal meeting point between East and West, Africa and Europe, the gorgeous island of Sicily is a linchpin of Mediterranean culture and one of Europe's most alluring destinations.

Sicily is the largest of the Italian islands, separated from the Continent by the Strait of Messina and surrounded by the Ionian, the Tyrrhenian and the Mediterranean Seas.It is one of the pearls of Southern Italy and can be discovered, understood and experienced through a series of itineraries dedicated to areas of interest ranging from nature to history and traditions.

Nature seems to have endowed all its wonders to this land: mountains, hills and above all the sea, with its incredible colors, its crystal-clear water and the beauty of its seabeds, in no way inferior to those of other seas.

Here, the Mediterranean Sea, with its many little islands scattered around the coasts of Sicily - The Aeolians, Egadi and Pelagie Islands, Pantelleria and Ustica - offers unique and the intense sceneries, scents and flavors of uncontaminated nature.

Last but not least, its great volcanoes are symbols of the irresistible beauty and vitality of this incredibly charming region.

Cefalu

The squares, streets and churches of this medieval town are so postcard-pretty that it's no wonder director Giuseppe Tornatore chose to set parts of his much-loved film Cinema Paradiso here. Unfortunately, you won't be alone in admiring the honey-hued stone buildings, mosaic-adorned cathedral and dramatic backdrop of La Rocca (the Rock) when you visit – during summer, holidaymakers from every corner of the country flock to Cefalù to relax in resort hotels, stroll the narrow cobbled streets and sun themselves on the long sandy beach.

The town is perfectly suited to slow, pedestrianised exploration. The little port is lined with narrow fishing boats and populated with local fishermen who can often be observed maintaining their boats, mending their nets and discussing the day's catch. The lungomare (seafront promenade) is very popular for the passeggiata (evening stroll), as is the main street, Corso Ruggero.

"Brilliant apartment, great location, and great advice"

My wife and I, accompanied by our young daughter, absolutely loved this holiday rental, which is situated in an ideal location at the centre of Cefalu's old town (=a 2-minute walk from the cathedral and 5-minute walk from the beach) . The flat was clean, comfortable, and spacious (the last was especially helpful, as our 16-month old daughter likes to run around a lot). The flat owner, Laura, was an incredibly generous hostess, providing a brand new, top-of-the-line cot for the apartment and even leaving milk and biscuits for our arrival. She was also provided very helpful advice, and arranged reliable transport to and from the airport. Very, very highly recommended.
