The Sicily region

It's more than an island! Discover Sicily and discover the world. The world's first multicultural society, Sicily is Italy's (and Europe's) most historically cosmopolitan region, having been ruled by Asians, Africans and Europeans. Sicily is black and white and a million shades of grey. There's no other place on Earth like Sicily. Our island is a unique place full of art, archeology, history, folklore and breathtaking scenery. And, of course, great food. Sicily is almost a nation unto itself. The enchanting land where Archimedes taught and Saint Paul preached was a Greek colony, a Roman province, an Arab emirate and a Norman kingdom.

Cefalu is a charming, Medieval city perched on the Tyrrhenian coast. Blessed with white sandy beaches, narrow cobbled streets, an acclaimed museum (housing Antonello da Messina’s masterpiece, Portrait of an Unknown Man) , and an awe inspiring Romanesque cathedral, Cefalu is not to be missed. The stunning mosaics which adorn the city’s cathedral were completed in 1148 and are both the oldest Byzantine-Norman mosaics in Sicily as well as some of the finest in the world. The town was captured in the Oscar winning film, ’Cinema Paradiso’.

Cefalu is located within the boundaries of the Parco Delle Madonnie, a 40,000 hectare nature reserve containing splendid mountain landscapes, ancient villages and numerous hiking trails. The Park is a ‘botanic paradise’ possessing more than half of the 2600 species known to Sicily within its confines.

Cefalu is a perfect base for exploring the island’s most important sites, such as Agrigento’s Valley of the Temples, Syracuse and Monreal’s famed cathedral. Lying 80 km East of Palermo, with abundant train and bus service between the two cities, Cefalu is a convenient, historic and relaxing vacation destination for the discriminating international traveller.

"Great view made forget the down sides."

Dear Guests

We would like to apologise for the difficulties you experienced at our property in September last year. We had only just begun lettings and obviously, for you, everything did not run as smoothly as we would have liked.

We are very sorry for the initial muddle over your booking and that you feel the agency may not have responded quickly enough to some of your problems. However, we were delighted to hear that the agency were able to be flexible and accommodating enough to meet you on your arrival at two in the morning. Obviously it is regrettable that there was then the accident with the key breaking in the lock.

Thank you for pointing out about the pump noise. We have since investigated it and believe that it was made by the regeneration of the water softener for the villa. We have made sure that this only takes place now during the day time and not at random. There will always be some pump noises from time to time when any water is used in the house but these should be very short lived and are not loud.

As for the pool, whilst it is cleaned every few days, if the wind gets up in between times then guests may need to use the net provided to scoop leaves off the surface. The lights in the pool are now set on a timer so they are on every evening.

It is quite true, and you are right to point out, that you do need a car to reach the property and that some of the latter parts of the road are narrow - this is the trade off for the wonderful panorama. We have tried to make this as clear as possible in our notes on the property and asked the agency to point this out when guests are booking. The property is 10-15 minutes from town and unfortunately there is no shortcut. We have come to realise from our own experiences that you can never completely trust a SATNAV or Google Maps!

The problems you experienced, thankfully, seem to have been exceptional and we have had nothing but very complimentary and encouraging comments in our Visitors Book. These initial teething problems have now been ironed out but we are always open to feedback and advice on ways in which to improve your holiday experience. We are glad that nevertheless you did enjoy the villa and its spectacular views and thank you for your comments.
